What do you remember about the 2009 H1N1 pandemic and subsequent vaccine rollout?
I remember they tried to get the entire population to get the H1N1 vaccine but I don't remember millions of people desperately trying to get it. In fact, I only know one person who got the H1N1 vaccine and it was because they worked in healthcare.
What are some of your recollections about the H1N1 pandemic and vaccine?

I remember it well. It came out of season because it started in Mexico, and got to be a pandemic by Summer. Early reports were scary, saying that healthy adults in the prime of life were dying from it. But this either changed quickly, or turned out to be wrong altogether. Schools were closed for a short time, then opened again.
Being a new strain of flu, it was more contagious than most; but the illness itself was fairly mild.
I normally take the flu shot, but I was wary of this one. This flu was considered a Swine Flu. And I remembered the Swine Flu pandemic of 1976. President Carter was very concerned that this flu would be very dangerous, and pushed for a quick vaccine. One thing I DON'T remember is whether I took it or not. I was in my 20s and may not have considered it a priority. But a lot of people who took it became very sick afterward with Legionaire's Disease, which is chronic and can be disabling. My dad took it, and he got sick and never was quite the same again.
Now, I assume that scientists learned something from the 1976 vaccine, and wouldn't make the same mistake again. But I didn't take the H1N1 vaccine until a lot of other people had taken it first.
Aside from the fact that all the covid vaccines so far area made using aborted fetal cell lines, which means I won't take them, this is the first vaccine ever developed for any coronavirus. So I'm inclined to be cautious about these vaccines. If I were at high risk, maybe I would take one that was only tested with the fetal cell lines, but doesn't contain any. But even at 73, my risk isn't that high. And I'm not exposed to that many people.
