Is it fair to call Derek Chauvin a hero? Do you call the garbage man a hero when he picks up your trash? Isn’t that basically the same thing?

    I don't think the term "hero" means what it used to.

    picking up garbage doesn't include making life and death decisions.

    To a person who does not believe in the US system of government and prefers one in which the police have the power to judge and execute without a trial I could see that.  Myself, I believe in the system the founders set up, so no.
