  • Kano--What makes this make-yourself computer kit so special?

I was browsing this one site and came across this project:

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/alexklein/kano...

It is doing so well with people having funded much more than the creators have asked for that I am really wondering what is so great about it. While watching the video I just think "... hmmm, I don't get it."

But it is doing so well that I am obviously not understanding the significance of this. I would actually purchase it for the kids in the family if someone can help me understand what makes this so special.

  • advice for trip to zurich and lucerne?

Hello, I am planning to travel to Switzerland for 10 or 11 days. I have already previously visited Geneva and Interlaken so this time am planning for Zurich and Lucerne.

I am hoping for recommendations on any other cities around/near that area to visit as well. And also recommendations on how many days I should stay in each place.

    Thank you.

  • only 2 and a half days in LA, Cirque du Soleil and Disneyland, best place to stay?

Hello, I will be flying in from overseas and will have 2 and a half days in Los Angeles. I will be arriving into LAX about 2:15pm on the 18th of this month and would like to see a Cirque du Soleil show at 8pm of the same day if possible.

Then for the 19th I would like to go to Disneyland. On the 20th I will be flying out to Denver around 6pm so I might possibly go to Disneyland again or just have a free day browsing the area of whatever hotel I am in up until leaving for the flight.

I would like to avoid renting a car of possible. What area would be best to stay in for this plan?

  • can you name some healthy but high in calories food items?

I am currently fasting from sun up to sun down (which is around 420am to 715pm). I am planning on going to the gym about an hour and a half after breaking my fast and would like to be able to eat a high calorie meal (something like 700 to 800 calories) but not have to eat a ton of food to get the calories in.

Can you name some foods that are healthy but high in calories please? One thing I can think of so far is Quinoa... so maybe some things I could cook with or mix with Quinoa would be great.

  • Are their fake Kenwood Stand Mixers? Is this a fake?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows if there are fake Kenwood Stand Mixers out there. I found an ad for a nice-looking one here:

    http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/home-applianc...

and the seller (and on the photo of the box) it says it has 1000W and a 5.5 litre bowl. I tried looking up online but I am not finding one with this same information. I am finding 500W machines with a 4.5 litre bowl only.

Do you think its a fake?

  • got an abandoned ringneck who has an egg-not ideal conditions, what to do?

    Hi,

we just received an Indian Ringneck female who has layed an egg. Its from a house of abandoned birds...most of the birds were set free as they were able to fly but someone kept this one to give to us since they knew we have 3 of the same birds.

they put it in a cage that is suitable for a canary and there is a small amount of hay in the bottom but the egg is rolling around and the female is not sitting on it as she is freaked out by being in an unfamiliar environment.

Our ringnecks were either tame when we got them or were raised from young and we don't know how to deal with this new one. I have never had a bird that layed an egg before.

Of course we will go buy a bigger cage ASAP but what to do with the egg? How do we make a comfy spot for the bird to go lay on it?

    poor little thing!

  • can I use just-raked leaves as mulch for my tomato plants?

I am a newbie at gardening and started with trying to grow tomatoes and carrots. I have some Determinate type tomato plants in containers that have started to flower and the temperatures are in the mid-80s right now. By next month it will be in the 90s.

I was told I should mulch with leaves to help keep in moisture and to help cool the soil a bit. So today I gathered all the leaves I could and used my hands to shred them up as good as I could and laid them on thick in the containers, leaving some space open by the stem.

Then I was just looking up online for other types of mulches and saw a question about leaves... someone was asking how to make leaf mulch and it made me wonder if I was not supposed to use just-raked leaves. So I clicked on the link and the answers to the question are basically to compost or let leaves sit in bags for a couple of months first. then use as mulch.

I don't have time to do this because by the time the leaves would be ready the tomato plants will have been finished producing.

So is it ok that I am using just-raked leaves? The only kind of mulch the garden stores here sell is wood chip mulch but I was advised not to use it for my tomato plants) and while they do sell hay for horses and camels, I will not buy it because I am worried they might have fleas or other pests. So the leaves are the only thing I can think of using right now.

Also, I know newspaper is advised as mulch but the papers here most likely are not printed with soy based ink. I did call a few newspapers up but no one I could get a hold of knew what kind of ink was used.

  • can you help with what to do in Chicago in 2 and a half days?

Hello, I will have a little excursion to Chicago... we will arrive in Chicago on the evening of the Jan 24th. We are departing on the evening of the 27th.

So for the 24th, by the time we get to our hotel and such it will be night.

Then we will have 2 full days, the 25th & 26th.

And just about a half day on the 27th before our flight in the evening.

We are flying into the O'Hare airport.

Can anyone recommend what we should do during our stay to get the most out of the time we have?

Also, depending on what you recommend, should we rent a car?

We are planning on getting a hotel in downtown... any suggestions on what downtown area we should look for hotels in?

    Thank you :)

  • parrot sneezed in my face and now I have a swollen eye?

My sister-in-law's parrot sneezed in my face last night with with spray and I washed my face immediately after. Later on I noticed my eye hurt a little bit when blinking so I looked in the mirror and the waterline part of my left eye was a bit swollen. I went to bed hoping it would go away but now it is slightly more swollen and still hurts when I blink.

Do you think my eye is just irritated and will eventually go away on its own? Can I catch whatever the parrot is sick with?

  • dead lift right or wrong?

hello, my husband and I have started the Chalean Extreme weight-training program that includes dead-lifts where we first stand straight up with the weights in our hands and we slowly bend our upper body down while rolling the weights down our legs. in the video, the instructor says to keep the back flat and go down only as far as we can keep our backs straight and then we go back up the same way with the backs flat.

The instructor also says keeping the backs flat will make us feel it in our hamstrings.

When I do the dead-lifts, I definitely feel it in my hamstrings and they are sore the next day. When my husband does them, he only feels it in his lower back and his lower back is sore the next day. I have watched him doing them and he looks like he is doing them correctly.

Do some people feel the dead-lifts in the hamstrings while others feel it in their lower backs? or is something wrong if my husband feels nothing in his hamstrings?

  • What is the name of a former Denver Broncos player with a horrific leg injury (not McCafrey)?

This happened a while ago... something like around 15 years ago..maybe a bit more.

Does anyone know the name of a former Denver Broncos player who horribly injured his leg during a game where his leg bent all the way in the wrong direction....and it ended his career with the Broncos?

It isn't McCafrey for sure because the person I am trying to remember got the injury while the Broncos were still using the Mile High Stadium back then.

Also, I am also pretty sure he never came back to play and he was disgruntled with Dan Reeves (I think he said Dan Reeves promised to keep him as a Bronco but in the end the Broncos cancelled or did not renew his contract)
