For my AP English class we have to write an IWA (Independent Writing Assignment aka an essay) and I'm having trouble figuring out how to form my thesis and organize my paper. This is the prompt:

In the following two passages, Virginia Woolf describes two different meals that she was served during a university visit; the first meal was served at the men's college, while the second meal was served at the woman's college. Read the two passages carefully; then write an essay in which you analyze Woolf's underlying attitude toward women's place in society as she describes the two meals. Discuss how such elements as narrative structure, manipulation of language, selection of detail, and tone contribute to the effect of the passage.

Should I analyze women's place in society in one paragraph and the discuss how the elements contributed to the effect of the passage or what? I really have no clue. So will you help me? Please?

For my summer homework I'm supposed to read Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder and fill out this philosophy chart. My problem is that it didn't come along with instructions so I'm not exactly sure what to put in one area. One box is asking for Connections but I don't know what to put there. Am I supposed to make connections between the characters, myths or what? I don't need the answers, I just want your opinion on what you think i'm supposed to do. Its about a girl who has a gay father with AIDS. I think in the book they go together on this camping trip or something for people who know someone with a deadly disease. I think the father dies at the end too.

I think the cover of the book has a picture of a bus going down a road and the sky is really colorful like after it rains.
