  • Getting my first web phone, whats a good phone to get?

So I have At&t, my bill is really low right now, I pay about 50 a month on a family plan.

I can't really afford to pay over 70 a month but I would really like a a web phone. I feel really left behind and I think not having one gives me a disadvantage at work. Makes me look out of the loop, you know? Plus I am like 22 now and there are people less than twice my age with better phones.

I have a Xenon right now. Had it for about 2 years almost, its breaking. The battery is dying quicker and the screen is glitching a bit. Time for a new phone. lol.

I hear an iphone is like 100 bucks a month... and it would be nice to get another phone with a full keyboard like the xenon has. It would be a pain to have to get used to a iphone imaginary keypad.

I like the blackberry torch, but I have no idea if its in my price range or not.

    What are your thoughts?

  • Good Easy Introduction to Raw Food?

    Hey,

So I have been a vegan for a year. Initially I lost a lot of weight, but recently I have been gaining weight due to stress and over-eating. I want to get back down to my initial weight loss of about 145 lbs.

I am not a calorie counter, it drives me nuts.

I've always been interested in Raw food but every time I have tried food has just been too bland for me to continue. I mean, I love spicy food, I need to survive. Couldn't find a lot of spicy raw food recipes that were easy enough to do. I like extreme tastes. Usually people say what I cook for myself is too overloaded with spices and flavors for them.

But I want to give Raw food a try.

Every resource I find on the internet is too wordy (horribly designed websites, they look like books) and not easy to read and understand/implement. Do you know of any good start up information that isn't a chore to research?

If you are raw do you have any tips?

  • what is the monthly cost of living in Seattle?

I am graduating from college this winter and am looking into this company I am extremely interested in working for, they have an office in NYC and in Seattle.

I have done a budget for the cost of living in NYC, and its fairly accurate, I have lived there for a short time before. But I have never lived or even been to Seattle before. I don't know much anything about it, much less how much it would cost to live there.

I want to live as close to the city as possible, the offices look as though they are smack dab in the middle, and I think the most I can pay for rent is 770 in total (for utl and all that).

what neighborhoods should I be looking for in this price range?

also will I need a car? Any information you feel like sharing would be much appreciated.

  • Help me find a work abroad group?

I am looking for a program/company or group that will hook me up with a job in either europe or asia. I have been researching this a lot and have found wonderful work programs but none that are really everything I need. If you guys know of some people who meet these qualifications let me know.

    1. I want to travel for 2-4 months, no longer. I want to do this in January or Februaryy.

    2. I need to be paid at least 500 a week. I do have a BFA, so I think this is not unreasonable.

    3. I need them to provide accommodations at the very least. Meals would be a plus.

    4. I don't want to have to pay them money for the experience. I can pay to fly over there though. I don't want to have to take a weeks long course online like the TEEL program makes you do.

    5. I am not picky about where I go, but I would prefer Japan or Holland. Nor am I picky about what I do, I'll work in a hotel, teach english, take care of kids. Doesn't matter.

    6. I have a friend who has to come with me. Don't want to go alone.

  • Find me the film "A Question of Silence"?

Its listed on Amazon for 60 dollars, I can't afford that. Provide me with a direct link to somewhere I can buy it for under 30 bucks. Please don't send me somewhere I can't find it.

    I can use google too.

I need to show it in one of my classes as reference material for a presentation. Find me the direct link online and I'll be satisfied, too.

  • What has your life been like since you got HPV?

I found out I was positive in September and have done my best so far to attempt to educate myself and practice safe sex.

Getting an STD used to be my number one fear, and now that I have one I not only feel dirty but scared. I realize its common but for me that doesn't make it any better.

As of now I'm just "abnormal," not high risk or anything... but I'm still pretty scared.

I changed my lifestyle drastically when I found out. I became a vegan, quit smoking and reduced my drinking dramatically. I changed ALOT. I thought that if I did this and starting doing all I could to boost my immune system I would be rid of it by the time I had my next pap.

    Nothing changed.

I'm scared that no matter what I do, this is going to hang over my head forever. Every time I have a sip of beer or skip the gym, its all I think about.

I broke up with my boyfriend a few months ago too and I don't even know how to begin to date with this. How the hell can you have sex with someone knowing that if the condom breaks you are infecting someone with a deadly virus? I've also read that men who preform oral sex on women with HPV can get oral cancer.

I feel diseased and scared. I don't want it to get worse. I haven't even gotten the courage to talk about it with my Mother.

What has your life been like since you got it?

If anyone has had HPV themselves and has had any luck getting rid of this I'd appreciate any tips.

  • what is the one non-vegan food that grosses you out the most?

For me its any kind of pork product... and butter.

I got really sick the other day when I was at a barbeque and this guy that was hitting on me bought me a pulled pork sandwich. I forgave him (he was fine), but the dripping BBQ sauce coming off the meat really make me queesy.

  • Grocery List for a Microwave Vegan? a College Vegan?

So, I live with this one ***** girl that never leaves the house and sours my kitchen's air. Thus making it nearly impossible for me to cook regularly. I seldom do.

So I've become a microwave vegan. No stove, no oven, can't fry anything.

I have access to a toaster, a toaster oven and microwave. I do not have a freezer.

Anybody got good microwave recipes? I know the basics:

    veggies and rice (boooorriiinngg)

    potatoes

    canned soups

    bagels

    .........

    .........

Anything new you can suggest? The more exotic or spicy, the more I'll like it.

Also, I am very poor and tend to dislike american food. I can't afford a bill over 40 bucks for two weeks. So instant meals and such are kind of out of the question.

I like Asian and Indian best.

I'm giving points here for not sounding like you're 13 and don't read the whole question.

  • Is a former "friend with benefits" off limits?

This question is for people who are 18 and over to answer, please.

So my roommate and I have a friend, with whom she used to sleep with on occasion... like a year ago... I knew him in high school and while we've never been super close, we have always enjoyed each other's company.

This friend of ours and I saw each other at a party after not seeing each other for quite some time.

He ended up coming home with me and we ended up having sex.

The entire house heard us, included my roommate who used to be his friend with benefits.

Whenever she used to speak to me about him, she did so passively... the sex was apparently bad after the first few times. She told me on numerous occassions, "I don't want to have sex with him," "we are just friends," "I would never want to date him." She always takes such pride in being single and uncommitted.

So when I saw him, in my mind I wasn't like, 'oh i cant kiss him, my roommate is still involved with his guy.'

What makes it kind of worse is that, even before this, she has been acting strangely competitive with me for no reason I can come up with. When I talk to her about it, she denies it and gets defensive. We both have the same major, and to me, Its that I think she's jealous and all this passive aggression is just a product of insecurity. Its really silly, its like, "how old are you?"

Our friend refused to sleep with her anymore because she seemed to want more than he wanted. He would say, "are you sure you don't want to be my girlfriend, cause I'm not looking for that." She has a nine page answer for everything, but the gist of it was, "I like to have casual sex, but I also want to find a boyfriend." And like that it was over between them. He's a young guy, you know, we're all like 21-22.

I just got out of a relationship that I was in for about a year and having my friend around to help me get my jollies out doesn't sound so bad to me. My ex was like almost 30, so its fun to be with someone closer to my age, that wants the same things I do.

I have had friends with benefits before and I know how to do it responsibly. She obviously, cannot. But I mean, I don't think I would be able to either if I had never had a serious relationship before.

I don't really believe I have done anything wrong here, especially considering my roommate has not been a very good friend to me lately.

So is our mutual friend that I knew before her off limits?

I mean, I don't want to marry him and for god sakes it been a year, she's had other crushes, hook ups and dates... our friend doesn't even talk to her a ton.

Do you think she's being immature about this?

  • Going to Haiti, any preparation advice?

Please don't answer this if you don't know what you are talking about. I'm looking for advice from people who have gone to Haiti since the quake.

I am a professional seeking advice from other adult travelers and professionals.

I am going to Haiti to shoot a documentary with a few college friends of mine in a few weeks.

I was wondering if I should get any particular type of shots before I go? Or if I need to buy something special while I'm here to take with me?

Should I keep pepper spray on me since I am a girl and it might be dangerous? (My mom suggested this).

Also, will it be hard for me to eat while I am there since I am a vegan? The crew is being catered while we are there, but will it be a pain for the company feeding us to find me food with no dairy or meat?

  • TV show recommendations?

I am bored out of my mind.

I don't like silly little girl shows, I am 21 years old and don't really want to watch something out of my age range.

I don't like crime shows, or shows that appeal to the male ego.

I don't like comedies that employ fart, poop and pee humor.

I like sci-fi, fantasy, LGBT shows, dramas and stuff based off books.

I am VERY picky when it comes to my media. If it aired on the CW or Fox or ABC I probably won't like it.

  • Anyone else really frustrated by soy cheese companies?

I hate buying soy cheeses. I went shopping last week and decided to buy some. I was looking at them and saw that most of them were 4 or 5 bucks. Then at the end of the isle, I find one that's only 3 something and its called Soya Kas. I was like, oh sweet, let me do that one. Stupidly I did not read the back label to check if it had milk proteins in it! Its so frustrating!

If I am in the soy products area and am surrounded by vegan products, why the frick do they have to try and trick you like that. I have to read the back of everything else I buy at the store, so why in the section marked "vegan non dairy" must i have to check for that?

I hate throwing new food out.

Its like are there really people out there that are vegan that would buy stuff like that? With a milk protein in it??? And if you ate cheese and milk anyway, why would you buy a soy cheese product anyway? Its not like it melts better or anything. It doesn't make sense.

Some days I feel like being vegan is like being a warrior. Its you against companies trying to cheap you out on quality and trust.

  • Where can I watch "Des Hommes et Dieux"?

Where can I watch "des hommes et dieux" without having to pay for it? I found it on youtube, but its only a preview.

Its a documentary about gay men in Haiti, translated it means "Of Men and Of Gods"

If someone give me a link to somewhere I can I watch the whole thing without paying I will give them the best answer.

  • What kinds of things do gay men pray for in voodoo rituals?

I am researching homosexuality in Haiti and wondering about the dynamics of gay men within communal voodoo rituals.

I know that their patron Loa is Erzulie, and that she is the demi god of the feminine realm. But I do not know how one would pray to her and what it is that gay men usually pray about in the presence of their community.

If you know of any stories about homosexuals practicing voodoo, please provide a link, I am interested in getting to know better the spirit of voodoo religion.

  • Sites that talk about why meat-eating diets are bad for your health?

I am constantly on the look for vegan support sites that do not stress animal abuse but instead stress more about the health benefits of vegan diets.

I did not become a vegan because I was incensed about animal suffering, and although upon coming upon literature about this in my research, it reflects positively for me when thinking back on my choice. However, I find that I am much more passionate about telling others of how dairy products negatively effects their health. For me, cutting out milk has changed my life most drastically and positively.

I would like to be pointed in the direction of a group that speaks of the evils of cheese and other dairy products on one's health. So far I haven't really found one that is right for me.

  • How do you fix Picky Eating Adults?

I have friend who only eats meat, cheese and bread.

He does not eat anything remotely vegetable, and his choice of fruits are pathetic.

Recently, he has been told by his doctor that he has to eat better or could face serious health consequences.

He's at an age that not being able to eat like an adult is seriously concerning and has asked for my help to overcome this issue.

The problem is, every time he puts something in his mouth that he thinks he won't like; he takes the tiniest little bite of it and then make a face as though he is being stabbed, and spits it out. He does this with nearly everything, cold rice, fish, carrots....

I am seriously concerned for his health but cannot think of a way to integrate vegetables and seemingly normals foods into his diet.

We have done research recently about the subject and he has come to believe the reason he is like this is because he is a "Super Taster." Meaning that he has more taste buds than the average person and has more of a problem with foods because of that. The notion of Super Tasters however are not recognized by the medical community, and I believe he is hanging onto it as a means to justify his problem. Personally, I agree with the medical community and think its bullshit as well. I am worried that he would rather hold onto this false diagnosis than accept that fact that what he is eating is causing harm to his body.

I do my best not to chide him about his poor choices, but what can you do when someone makes a conscious decision that certain foods taste bad and that they are not within a desired ascetic?

  • Where can I find songs from the birth of Jazz (New Orleans 1895)?

I am looking for songs from around the time jazz began in 1895 New Orleans. Its for research for a screenplay I'm writing. Anything from after 1915 really won't be of much use to me.

Does anyone know where I can find really early jazz music?
