  • Here I am again with Yahoo issues.?

I thought I had the latest yahoo with the latest yahoo mail using Explorer 8, but continually have problems with Yahoo. Again, I have no notification like we used to have with the little bell at the top of my page for responses to my posts on Yahoo message boards. And now when I click to send an email, I just get that effin' spinning beach ball for an hour and it doesn't send my email.

  • Why is Yahoo mail such a piece of ****?

It has not worked correctly in months. So, I figured that maybe you geniuses would need a little time to get it together. BUT THEN I come to find that you have been wasting all of your energy on a new format that is also awful. Stupid Marissa stole "conversation" formatted email from Gmail. You'd think because she came from Google, she'd know how to do it correctly and yet it completely sucks. So here are my problems.

    1. No notification symbol (used to be a bell) at the top of my page to notify me of activity on message boards I contributed to.

    2. I don't know if you fixed this, but the unforgiveable influx of ads on Black Friday literally had ad banners across the front of my email population.

    3. The conversations in email threads are not working. They keep making my cursor jump up a few lines or emails. It's jumbled up, conversations don't line up and you don't have "expand all" button like gmail...piss poor.

    4. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Everything is working slower since the new format of email, the sports pages and other new formats for Style, etc.

Does anyone have any relief for this junk? I always threatened to leave Yahoo for gmail...I do have a gmail account, but then I liked Yahoo's homepage and mail better. So with Yahoo's mail completely sucking and my recent discovery of creating a decent Google homepage, It might be time, because you ain't worth it anymore yahoo.

  • Looking for some cool online adventure games for kids?

My kids love to be emersed in an adventure. I'm looking for an online multi-player that really involves them and takes them on a journey that could potentially take them months to complete. If there were a game where they can choose their character, dress their character, name their character and go on an online adventure (all 4 of my kids from 4 different computers), that would be awesome. Any Ideas?

  • Is there something wrong with Y! mail today?

I live in the Chicagoland area if that matters, but my mail won't load today. I open up Yahoo, click on mail and the email headings load, but when you click on one to open the email, it doesn't open. Is it just me?

  • Capital gains tax increase to 20% in Dec of 2012?

I just got to thinking about what I should do with my stocks at the end of the year. We currently pay 15% on income gained on long term holdings, which are due to increase to 20% on Dec 31st of 2012. Should I sell my stock at the end of the year to only pay 15% and then re-buy the stock right back? I've had some magnificent gains on AAPL and the 5% difference could be significant. Any ideas?

  • How to get spouse's retirement benefits from UPS after divorce?

A friend of mine (let's call her Kay) recently divorced her husband who is an employee with UPS (united parcel service). In her divorce decree, she is entitled to half of his retirement benefit. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as calling UPS (or the teamsters union - he drives a truck for UPS) to have them simply send a check. Apparently you have to hire a lawyer to go get these benefits, but that is not possible due to lack of funds. Does anyone have any clue on how to go about getting this retirement payout from UPS or the Teamsters Union.

  • To anyone who lives in or travels to Las Vegas.?

Is there any ideal time to go during the winter months. I was looking at some time between Jan 15 and Feb 15. I know that they have notorious convention weekends that fall on (as a random example) certain weekends like AVN is always the 3rd weekend of January or CES is always the first week in February (these example are not true, but I am looking for what convetions might fall during the time period I mentioned). I am looking for a weekend when they don't have some kind of huge convention, so I go with less hassle, crowds and lower hotel rates. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Will you download the new Yahoo Mail?

I sure hope not. What a piece of junk. I seriously cannot open my email anymore. And when I could open it, it took forever and then I couldn't send a file attachment with an email that took 4 minutes to send. Pathetic Yahoo....shoulda let Microsoft buy you.

  • Does anyone know anything about Turkish Currency?

Does anyone know anything about turkish currency? I live in the U.S. I found a turkish banknote that is 5000 lira.

    Front Side of Bill: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:5000_TL_A_obvers...

    Back Side of Bill: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:5000_TL_A_revers...

I don't know if this bill is still in use or if new currency is issued, rendering older versions worthless. So my questions are....is it worth anything? If so, approximately what is it worth? And if it is worth anything, what is the best place (in general) that I can exchange it for american dollars?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Selling stock at a loss?

I have researched this question, but I cannot find an answer as I think it's too elementary to be taken seriously by most. Regarding income tax filing, is there any benefit (or consequence) to selling stock at a loss or should I wait to use this loss to offset the sale of a stock that has gains.

  • Can you "add" places to your GPS?

First of all, I don't own a GPS, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I do use VZ navigator and understand the general workings of a GPS system, such as TOM TOM. I want to know if I can add places, such as new stores that pop-up in my neighborhood. The store is so new that the GPS software does not have it, but could I somehow map-tac my GPS to be associated with (for example) "Walmart in Joliet, IL." I just fear that I live in a new area with which the revs of GPS software will never be able to keep up. Thanks in advance.

  • Raid 1 array with 2 external hard drives?

Before I explain my situation, please understand that I did do multiple internet searches and search right here on Y! Answers and I didn't find what I needed.

My external hard drive recently crashed and it got me thinking that I should now get two new external hard drives to redundantly save my files (mirror) to the two locations. I would just manually and periodically save a folder with all my files from my P.C. to these two drives, but then I heard about Raid 1 array. If I got this correct, I can setup my P.C. to automatically save identical chunks of information to these two external hard drives. So here are my questions:

    1) Is the above correct?

    2) Can I just buy any two hard drives to do this? I would buy two identical hard drives (same brand and same amount of memory) to avoid possible compatability issues.

    3) Some people speak about "controllers" to do this. What is this about?

    4) It is important to know that I do NOT want to use my internal hard drive as one of the two drives in this array. I want to use this only as temporary storage.

    5) Do you know of any websites that would take me through this exact configuration with pictures of the setup?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Computer Issue: System Recover / Overhaul?

Hi - I have an old compaq computer (maybe 8-10 years old) with XP that I would like to clean up and give to a younger relative or donate it. But, the system is so muddied up to the point that I get the dreaded, "Low disk space" bubble. I tried pulling files off of it and burning them to disk. I tried removing programs that were not in use. I tried disk clean and disk defrag. I tried all of that mumbo jumbo. I would have just done an entire system recovery, but cannot find the disks. Does anyone have any suggestions? I may be able to get system recovery disks from Compaq / HP, but I hear they can cost $100 or maybe even $200, which I do not want to pay. I even tried anti-virus software to see if that would do it, but the anti-virus has issues loading due to low disk space. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Microsoft Office (Excel) 2007 Drawing Tools?

So this is going to sound weird, but I used to use Microsoft Word and Excel to make some pretty wicked illustrations, sketches, etc. Not many people even know that the older versions ('97 or '03?) had a drawing tool bar to make shapes and lines, etc. Anyway, I now have the 2007 version of Office and am very disappointed. For anyone who knows the tool bar from the older versions, do you know where I can find (on the newer 2007 version) the little arrow button that allowed the user to click and drag over multiple objects to move them or delete them all at once.

  • I have 2 Form 1098 Statements and working with TaxCut Software?

My mortgage was sold from one lender to the other in 2007, so I was mailed Form 1098 mortgage interest statements from both lenders. The second lender's 1098 picked up where the first lender left off.

Anyway, on Taxcut, when you get to this section, you enter the info from the first 1098 and click Finished, then you have the option of "Add a mortgage." Is this where I should click to add the second lender's 1098 info? Thanks in advance.

  • USB: "This device could operate faster"?

Hi - I have a 160GB external hard drive sitting on my desk that I purchase around the year 2000. I had it connected to an older HP Pavillion (mfg around 1996). I had to load the drivers from the provided disk due to working with Windows 98 (no plug and play). Anyhow, I later aquired a used Sony Vaio (Probably manufactured about the same time Windows XP was released). Here's the problem...when I plug the external harddrive into the Vaio, I get a pop-up bubble by the toolbar that says something like, "This device could run faster." I realize that this is a USB version issue, but what do I need to do to get the hard drive working faster and update (to USB 2.0??)

  • Simple tax questions that I don't know the answers to?

Last week, I did my taxes with Tax Cut Software as I have done for several years in the past, because I have one W-2, mortgage interest, property taxes and that's about it. Well, when I looked at the projected refund I would be receiving, I fell down. It is about half of what I normally receive ($800 down from $1600). To isolate the problem, I went back to the W-2 section and entered last year's W-2 info and sure enough....it went back up to $1600. I can only guess that I jumped to a higher tax bracket earning about $64k in '06 vs. just over $70k in 2007.

    Questions:

    1) Does the above sound correct?

    2) For future reference, will contributing substantially more to my 401K knock my earnings down to the lower tax bracket gaining me the higher refund?

    3) Can I still do anything this year to get the higher refund....I heard snippets of someone saying something about opening an IRA with $4k or $5k or whatever the max is to knock down earnings to get me the higher tax refund?

  • Listen to music from computer via bluetooth earpiece?

I would like to be able to listen to my computer music privately at work wirelessly (via bluetooth). Better yet, I would like to do this with my cell phone's bluetooth earpiece. My computer doesn't have bluetooth capabilities built-in. Is there some kind of bluetooth transmitter that I can buy (either sound output jack or USB) that I can pair with my cell phone's earpiece to listen to music from my computer?
