  • Do I have a right to reasonable notice of my utility bill and rent?

I live in San Bernardino County California.

I'm on a lease that requires me to pay water and trash on top of rent. So I have a base rent of 935$ For the last year and a half I get a bill about a week and a half before rent is due with the total amount. For instance 10$ for water, 40$ for trash. so 985$ due on the 1st. If I fail to pay this amount by the 1st, it's late, and I owe a late fee.

Lately the utility bill is coming on the 1st. Am I entitled to some sort of reasonable notification before my bill is due? Can they charge me a late fee for not paying my utility on the 1st, if I don't get my bill in reasonable time to pick up the money order? If the office closes at 6pm and I don't get my mail until 3pm that's a 3 hour window that I have to be home, and off work for.

  • Does my landlord have to check my apartment before I renew my lease?

I am coming up on the end of my lease at my apartment complex. I am renewing it for another 12 months but my question has to do with checking my apartment.

I have a cat, even though I am not suppose to, so my question is

When I renew my lease is my landlord going to do a sweep of my apartment like they did when I moved in?

The lease renewal sheet says that I need to set aside sometime to meet with the manager to go over renewing my lease, but it doesn't say anything about them going into my apartment that same day and checking it for any issues (such as they would when you first move in to check for any issues that need repairing)

If so then I would need to relocate the cat for the day...if not then I am good

and please don't answer with "You shouldn't have the cat" or "It shouldn't be there in the first place"

I am in the process of relocating it to a new home and it just happened to be during this time.

This is a serious question, so please answer it accordingly. I am a grown up and know that the cat should not be in the apartment, so I don't need reminding.

    Thanks

  • What happens after a 3 day notice to comply or quit?

Today I received a three day comply or quit notice from our apartment complex.

Apparently we play our music too loudly for the neighbors and need to get rid of our cat.

We are going to take the cat to a shelter (she was a stray we have been taking care of for the last two months) tomorrow but my question is something else.

When the three day notice is up, what happens then? Does the landlord come in and check the apartment for pets or what? Does anything happen?

Can they give a notice for loud music? That seems a little stupid, because how can they monitor the loudness of my music or tv when it's in my own apartment? Guess if I get enough complaints against me then that would constitute an issue.

Please answer this honestly, if you are just going to comment on how horrible a person I am or how rude I am for playing my music too loud, then please just move on. Same for if you are going to just say how wrong I am for taking the cat in the first place. Please just don't bother.

The reason we got this notice is because we have a bat s$*t crazy old lady who lives downstairs and purposefully goes out of her way to complain about ANYTHING we do...so I guess listening to music with my screen door open was the straw that broke the camels back for her...whatever

    thanks

  • Great place in IE for Birthday Dinner?

My birthday is in a few days and I got stuck working all day, which bums me out greatly :'o(

So after work I really want to go out to dinner at a nice place

I'm NOT looking for a really expensive, five star restaurant

I really like hole in the wall places, and I love to try some place new, but it's needs to be open late, I get out of work late so no early birds here!

I enjoy sushi, continental, mexican, chinese, burgers, BBQ, you name it...I haven't been out to new places so I want to see if there's anyone out there who can recommend a good place to eat.

I live in the IE so I'm looking for places around Rancho, Ontario, Montclair, Pamona, Upland, Claremont, or Fontana area...I don't really want to go far, so no LA places please, it's just too far...

10 points if you really sell it! I want a good, tasty meal for my special day! Thanks!

  • What if I decide not to move out?

My husband and I gave our 30 day notice to move out, we live on a month to month contract, no lease. But now it looks like there might be a chance we may not get our new apartment, we could be denied it due to not making enough income.

My question is, what do I do if I can't move out but already gave my 30 day notice? Do I have to move out? Can I talk to my landlord about staying?

Please only answer if you know about renting or have dealt with something similar, don't just guess, this is serious! Thanks

  • Do I still have to pay rent for August if I am moved out before then?

We live month to month in an apartment in CA, no lease. My husband and I gave our 30 day notice today, July 8th, and are moving into our new apartment starting July 20th. I am wondering if we are moved out of our old apartment before it hits August 1st, do I still have to pay for the month? Will they pro rate the first 8 days instead or will they be alright with not paying if we are moved out before August 1st? I would ask my landlord but I am worried she will get the wrong impression, that we might skip town or something before the rent is due, she is paranoid like that.

Also, I know that if I don't give my 30 day notice to move out I won't get my deposit back, but I know they will probably try to charge us a bunch of fees for cleaning and repair so I will be surprised if I get anything back at all.

Please don't answer this question unless you have dealt with this yourself, work for apartment or renting complexes, etc. I don't need a general guess here.

I will give best answer if you help out!

    Thanks!

  • How do I get my friend to stop acting so spoiled?

Don't get me wrong, I love my friend, she was my maid of honor at my wedding, she has always been there for laughs and good times, but recently I have been struggling with how different our situations have been. So here's a little back story.

My friend grew up spoiled, and no I am not exaggerating, her parents were very well off and even today still buy her whatever she wants (new cars, clothes, fills up her gas tank, etc), sends her on week long vacations, and even pay her to live in ONE of their houses to take care of it and keep it clean, while they live in a separate house (her parents even have another house on an island in Washington that she regularly stays at, so they have 3 houses!) Her parents are even planning on selling one house and buying a brand new one for her and her BF in a few years. My friend recently got engaged and is planing on starting college next year and she keeps asking me about how she is going to pay for this big lavish wedding that she wants and school. She has no job and her finance works an average job, so she is relying a lot on her parents and his parents to pay for everything, and she doesn't expect to pay a dime or have to cut back on anything for the wedding.

Me, I grew up very different. My parents were poor, only one working most of the time, we lived paycheck to paycheck and I have been working on my own since I was 14. Now, I am married and live with my husband; we both work while I am going to graduate school. I have a ton of money in debt for school loans and sometimes my husband and I struggle to make ends meat let alone have extra money to spend on trips, cars, fun stuff...etc.

So the problem I am having is my friend really doesn't understand my husband and I's situation. She always want us to go over to her house and spend days with her on end (she has no job so she sits at home all day long), and wants us to go out to eat,see movies and she always expects us to pay...seriously! She wants us to buy her food, candy and junk and is always expecting us to drive and pay for gas. Even when we do hang out, it always has to be what she wants to do, we can never go do anything else unless she wants to do it, and won't listen to anyone. One time she wanted me to hang out with her and was willing to pick me up but still demanded gas money, which I was flat broke. She doesn't want to hear about how we are struggling and have no where to turn to, yet she expects me to listen to her complain about not having a job and extra cash to spend, or about her lavish wedding she is going to have and move into this big house, or about how she refuses to take out school loans to pay for college when she starts. I can never help her, but she expects me to, and then refuses to help when we really need her...

what should I do? I have tried to talk to her about it but she just throws it back in my face how I don't care about her, it makes me not want to be around her, then I feel guilty.

  • What are these clear, itchy bumps on my feet? HELP! I'M GOING CRAZY!?

A week ago, I started noticing these clear bumps that form in little clusters on and between my toes, now they have spread to the sides of my feet and ankles. At first they did not itch, but now it itches non stop all day long! Sometimes it burns, but its usually when I itch them. I can pop them like a pimple, and the only thing that comes out is a clear fluid.

The internet tells me it can be three different things:

Athletes foot: I thought it was this, so I have been using topical cream and the foot spray for a week, but nothing has changed!

Ezcema: it says it can be seasonal, due to the heat, but I have NEVER gotten anything like this before. Most ezcema says its more of a rash or blisters, or even dried rought skin, and I don't have anything like that.

Dermatitis: I read that it can be caused from allergic reactions to cloths or foods and when my feet sweat it can cause the reaction. Again, it's more of rash like or blisters that gets swollen, and I don't have those at all.

*Note: I did start wearing a new pair of shoes right before the break out. I am wondering if it might be an allergic reaction to the shoes. I tried to wear socks with the shoes, but it did not seem to help*

I am not asking anyone to go onto Google or WebMD and give me a list of things that do or don't apply...I am asking for anyone...ANYONE who has gone through something similar or the same as me...and what they did to help...THIS ITCH IS KILLING ME!!!!

    I am desperate. :'o(

  • My parent's claimed me?

Last year, (for my 2009 taxes) I claimed my fiance who was out of work and I was supporting him, so I filed as "Head of Household" with 1 dependent.

I found out after I filed that my parents claimed me as a dependent on their taxes, I have NO idea why because I did not live with them AT ALL in 2009 and they did not support me financially AT ALL...

I filed anyways and told my parents they needed to change it...I guess they did not:

I received a letter from the IRS saying that someone claimed me in 2009 and I also claimed someone, which is not allowed. I DO NOT qualify as a dependent, so the letter I received told me to do nothing and wait...

My question is what will happen to my parents? What do they have to do? Will this affect their taxes this year (for 2010)?

I am 23, a full time student, and I have been living on my own since 2008 and have been supporting myself since 2008 too...I know I can't be claimed....what do I do?

  • Graduate School Application Deadline Question PLEASE HELP!?

I am applying to a Graduate program at Kansas State University for the Fall 2011 term. The deadline is December 1st, but I am having a bit of an issue...

My current school I am at will not be able to send my transcripts to Kansas state in time for the deadline (the deadline is about 9 days away) and also, I live in California, so I have to mail all my other required documents to the school, including my personal statement and letters of recommendation, and I don't think I will be able to have them arrive to the school until sometime after the deadline (December 1st)

ok, so my question is if I have turned in my grad school application, paid the fee for it, and have had some, but not all, the required documents sent in, will the school still consider me?

Will they accept what I have and ask that I send in the other documents as quickly as possible, or will they just reject my application and not let me send in my documents late?

please only answer this question if you really have dealt with grad school, or work for a school, or know someone you can ask...I have called the school personally, but they are on holiday break until after the deadline, so I have no help there...PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

  • Appear at court for a speeding ticket?

I was ticketed for going 100+ mph on the freeway. My mandatory court date is set for December 7th, but I have a final that day, so my first question is can I go to court at an earlier date?

I know that I was speeding, but I am pretty sure I was not going over 100 mph, so my second question is, if I go to court and plea not guilty, what will happen next? Will the officer show up to the next court date they schedule me for? Should I get a lawyer? Should I plea for the lesser charge of speeding instead of 100+mph?

If I decided to plea guilty, can I ask the judge to NOT suspend my license? (driving over 100mph carries the penalty of a license suspension for up to 30 days) If I give a reasonable excuse, like my economic struggle and needing my car to get to work and school, is it possible for the judge to not suspend my license? Could he reduce the fine or are there any payment plans I could do for the fine?

Also, I got a ticket for tinted windows, if I have the tint removed, could the fine be reduced/dismissed?

and please don't respond unless you want to give me a real answer, not just some drab about how I don't deserve to drive or live for that matter...I have heard it already

thanks and sorry it's so long!

  • Brother in law issues? What Would you do?

My fiance and I are getting married next year and we have been together for 4 years now. His brother, let's call him "Larry" for the time being, and I have had a bit of a rough relationship over the years now.

He is a severe heroin addict, has been in and out of prison for a decade now, and is now homeless because no one will let him live with them. We have gotten into a couple of big arguments and at one point, my fiance has even gotten in a fist fight with Larry in my defense

Right now Larry has yet another warrant out for his arrest (this will be his third parole violation so we all know that he will be going to prison for a very long time) and he is refusing to go to turn himself in. He stays with us a couple days out of the month (no more than a week) until my fiance and I have to tell him to leave.

The last time Larry got out of prison, I gave him an ultimatum; I told him that if he were to ever get arrested or have to go back to jail, or even start doing drugs again, that I would not let him over to my house, let him see his brother, and I would go and turn him in to the police.

My fiance and his family have the same mentality, where they feel if that they don't address the problems with Larry, then they will just go away or Larry will take care of them himself. They have never really given him any boundaries in his life so he basically uses his family and friends to get whatever he wants and he does not care about their feelings or concerns.

I have struggled with family who are addicts and I don't put up with that at all, so with Larry I always acted differently than my fiance and his family, which has gotten me into hot water a couple of times.

SO What would you do in my situation?

Should I stand my ground and turn him in?

Should I talk to my Fiance and his family about it?

  • Ticket for exceeding 100mph?

A couple of days ago, I was pulled over for going 103 in a 65 (on the 210 freeway), I was given a ticket for CVC code 22348 (B) VC, exceeding 100 mph.

I have had two speeding tickets in the past, one I went to traffic school for, so the point was taken off, and the last speeding ticket I got was just shy of 3 years ago, I already have 2 points on my license, but like I said, it was almost 3 years ago so they are almost gone, and my previous speeding tickets were only going 15+ mph over the speeding limit...

I know that I will probably have my license suspended, and I will have to pay a fine of at least $500 but I have a couple of issues that maybe someone can clarify

**Is my first speeding ticket (the one I got 4 years ago and went to traffic school) going to affect the my situation now, or is that ticket just gone forever? And what about the one I got three years ago?

**Will they increase my fine and/or license suspension?

**Will the points on my license affect my situation also?

**Will I have to go to court? And if so, what is the best course of action? Fight the ticket? Admit my faults and accept the punishment? Beg and cry for mercy?

    **Should I get a lawyer?

**Could the court charge me with reckless driving? I read somewhere that the cop who pulled me over can change the charge to reckless driving, or the court can charge me with it if they want, is that true?

Btw, please don't fill this page with nothing but insults and put downs, I realize that I made a huge and horrible mistake, and I am human so I make them sometimes, so answering this with nothing but judgmental remarks about how I don't deserve to drive or live for that matter just so you can show how much better you are than me...please then just don't answer...it's just rude

    thank you for your patience

  • Bank of American overdraft fees; should I put some money in right away even though I don't have all of it?

I will keep this short; I ran up two over draft fees (a possibly a third one in a couple of days) to a total of about $140; I will not have the money to cover it right away, it will take 4 or 5 days at least for me to get the $140, but I do have $40 in cash on me right now...should I go put the $40 and wait to cover the rest or should I just wait, try and go talk to someone, and cover it all up front when I get the full amount? Or, should I put the $40, then go talk to someone, and then cover it when I can?

And please don't answer me with insults or degrading comments about how I should be smarter with my money, I know I screwed up and I know I am a total idiot, so please spare me and try to give me some actual helpful insights.

  • Should I get a credit card?

I am 22, a student in college, working a minimum wage job, I don't have much money and to be honest I am really struggling to get bills paid, put food on the table, and gas in my car. Someone suggested I get a credit card to help pay some of the expenses. I have never owned a credit card, I have no credit (that I know of), and have never done anything to build my credit (for ex. buy a car, jewelry, mattress, etc) and to be honest and I am terrified about credit cards because I don't know how they work....

Should I get a credit card or should I find some other way to help my financial struggle?

  • How do I tell my parents I'm Bi?

I have never really been close with my parents and growing up I struggled with depression issues that my parents never really addressed. They didn't believe me when I said I had problems and thought I was trying to get attention. My two sisters were completely opposite of me growing up and we constantly fight over our life choices. Now I'm older and I have moved out on my own, which my family is completely against, I have come to the realization that I am bisexual. I know that if I tell my parents they will either not accept it, and think I'm just trying to get attention or to start fights, or will "shun" me and not want me around anymore. How do I tell them? I am having a lot of anxiety about this and need to find closure. Thanks

  • What do I get for my sister's 25th birthday?

She's engaged, living with my parents, she doesn't do much in regards to hobbies...she works a lot, then parties on the weekends, she's going to Vegas for the weekend so I want to surprise her when she gets back...I'm thinking an Ipod or maybe some new shoes....what do you think?

  • Applying for a out of state graduate school, but I'm unsure about my units vs. credit hours?

I am graduating from California State University San Bernardino with a Bachelor's in Psychology, and I am applying to Kansas State University for a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy for next year, but I am really confused about something. Most states' universities use something called "Credit Hours" as oppose to "Units" that I am use to in California, what is the difference? The program says I need at least 60 credit hours to be accepted, so with a Bachelor's, is that enough? I will be graduating with 180 units, am I good?

    Thanks

    Can I still claim him?
