Wedding etiquette regarding best man.?
My husband's cousin asked him to be best man at his upcoming wedding. They aren't close anymore, I think he mostly asked him because he was my husband's best man. They both have on-call schedules. In January, my husband asked for a list of who he wanted to be invited (my husband doesn't know who any of the other groomsmen are) and a list of dates that would work for him, so that my husband could coordinate it with his own on-call schedule and plan a bachelor party. He never did. A few weeks ago, the groom called and told my husband that the bachelor party was scheduled. It is out of town (about 3 hours away) and on a weekend when my husband is on-call and can't leave town. He tried everything he could but the only person who can take his place at work will be on vacation that week. The bride and groom got really mad when my husband said he wouldn't be able to make it. We are trying to go about this in a polite non-confrontational way because this is their wedding and we want them to be the focus, but they are excluding him from things and things are turning negative (he still hasn't been told details about what he's supposed to wear, they are throwing a luau shower and everyone else was called for help to cook and he wasn't, and various other very obvious things). Would it make things worse if he were to step down or do you think that is what they want him to do? Would it be wrong if I went to the luau shower AND the wedding AND the rehearsal but skipped the bridal shower (the bride makes me very uncomfortable)? We just want things to go smoothly and do not want to cause any trouble.
