Plattenspieler an Boxen anschließen?
4 AnswersMusik & Player5 years agoIn my novel's final (death) scene...?
So, I am struggling a little with my final scene to my fantasy novel, in which after the final battle between elves, humans, etc and the "bad guys", thousands of people lie dead on the snow.
Now, I'm planning to conclude the scene with the one elf seeing his dead friends and he starts to hum a song and the other elves, stepping out of the trees and kneeling beside their dead friends, join in the song. The effect this song has on the other bystanders is deep, as they are filled with sorrows and heartache (not necessarily their own, but projected from the elves through the song to them). I have such a song in mind already (the song I heard in my head when this scene came to me), but I'm still trying to broaden my view on such music.
Of course, this is a bit of a mumble-jumble explanation. In short, though, I'm looking for a song (classical/score) that is slow, gut-wrenching and would cause you to sob uncontrollably if, say, this were a movie and you were watching.
I know this is a bit of a far-fetched question, but I hope to get some nice imput anyway. Thanks a lot.
2 AnswersBooks & Authors6 years agoString Theory and Dimensions?
Okay, so I am not very very good with quantum physics, but I hope I can make sense to you.
So, as far as I understood this, according to string theory every world has 10/11 dimension, of which 7/8 are "rolled up". So, for our world that means that there are 3 dimensions of direction and (some say) 1 dimension of time, so 3(+1) dimensions unfolded.
What I'm asking is, what would change (in your personal and others' theory of course) if we unrolled one other dimension? Would life still be possible? And if so, what precisely would change for the humans living there?
And, for those who like a bit of fantasy, lets say one of the dimensions is magic. In our world, obviously, it is rolled up, but say in a parallel world there aren't only 3(+1) dimensions, but 3(+1 time) +1 magic dimensions, so that you could actually "see" magic happening. Would that make sense?
I know this is all pretty jumbled, but I hope to get some interesting theories from you. Thanks a lot.

1 AnswerPhysics7 years agoHigher dimensions...?
I’ve been working on a fantasy story with many different worlds/universes existing simultaneously. Now, to my story it is rather essential that in some of said universes there is an additional “dimension”. Since I’m rather poor at maths and physics, the possibilities of higher dimensions don’t explain themselves so easily to me, but from what I understand the dkmensions we live in (3) describe directions, so all higher dimensions would be additional directions? And the time (+1) is similar to direction, but also very different. So, technically, three directions+time, right?
So, while everything would change in higher dimensions (4,5,6,…), like gravity gettig stroger and orbits being unstable, is it clear how it would change if we added something similar like time (+2,+3,+4…)? Wouldn’t everything remain the same but for something abstract like time added (for the purpose of my book say something as abstract as magic) in a 3+2 dimensional world?
Thanks for the help
1 AnswerPhysics7 years agoElektronische Ausfuhranmeldung?
Hallo!

1 AnswerFlugreisen8 years agoDoes this evoke a clear picture/emotion in you?
The following is a (very) rough first draft of a chapter for a story I'm working on. I was just wondering whether the part about the singing was clearly enough described, because since I know exactly what it sounds like I sometimes find it hard to describe. Bear in mind that it's only an un-edited first version and only an extract. There's more to the scene than just the singing. All comments and critique is welcome. Thank you.
"Then, finally, after what seemed like an eternity in which they’d heard nothing but the pounding of the blood in their ears, Cantor began to hum silently. He was standing next to Eya’s body, looking down on his queen’s eyes that were staring into nothingness. Throughout the forest, the Sillanog answered his humming with weeping tones. (...) Meanwhile, their song had grown louder, filling the air and causing those, who were standing too close, to drop to their knees, crying and sobbing uncontrollably with the weight of the emotions the song transferred. (...) The song of the Sillanog became even louder still, heartbreakingly beautiful and so full of agony and melancholy even the last ones standing dropped to the ground almost fainting, clutching their throats or tearing at their hair, mouths opened in noiseless screams. (...) The Sillanog began singing again, more softly this time, surrounding them all with gentle, velvety sounds, as they all watched with awed expressions the flames that consumed the bodies above (...)"
1 AnswerBooks & Authors8 years agoWhat was the dirtiest road in medieval Paris?
I'm aware that probably all roads in Paris were kind of filthy at the time, but what would you say was the dirtiest of all (btw: I tried google, but it didn't quite deliver a good answer). I don't know where the tanners worked (I suppose along the Seine, but where exactly escapes me), but I suppose that this district, in particular, would've been quite disgusting, as well as the fish market.
So, if you could either tell me where those two were located, or if you could name any other dirty, foul and somewhat obscure road (possibly also where so-called "scarlet women" were to be found), I'd greatly appreciate it.
The road has to be in Paris, but as inspiration for you I could name White Chapel in London (I know it's more of a district than a road, but still).
Thanks a lot for reading through that gibberish and trying to help.
Merci beaucoup.
5 AnswersHistoire8 years agoHow would you name this?
I'm not usually at a loss for terms, but this is something that's really giving me a hard time, because nothing seems to actually fit. I'm speaking of an advice that I "invented" for my book. It's a pocket watch that, by the use of energetic dust evaporating from the cogwheels, is capable of interpret the positions of the stars above (even during the day), to tell you the exact time, no matter what world or realm you are in.
I was thinking of "astralaí", which is the Gaelic word for astrologer, but that doesn't quite convince me, yet. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

1 AnswerBooks & Authors8 years agoI think I accidentally deleted my graphic card?
Right, I know this question may sound a bit retarded to anyone with the least bit of computer skills, but I honestly think I just accidentally deleted my graphic card. I was trying to delete some other program and now some games won't start anymore, etc, it always says that "XY doesn't run on 0. No supporting graphic card could be found". Also, some videos won't play anymore. I also don't know if I didn't also un-install the driver for the card. At least the card, if not both. I'm not sure.
Now, I have a HP 625 notebook. If someone could PLEASE tell me what's wrong here and how to mend the problem in a way you would explain it to your great-grandmum, that would be great :)
Thanks a lot!!
4 AnswersSoftware9 years agoHow much do you "owe" your characters?
This is going to be a rather philosophical question, depending a lot on the point of view, but I'm really just curious.
How much do you owe your characters? Or differently, how much do you feel with your characters? Do you owe them a great stroy, or even more?
Because personally, I feel like my characters, once they knocked on my imagination's door, deserve my entire attention. Even the least important person, such as the boy that brings the morning post, gets my attention. I don't do an entire background research on him, but still, he's important to me.
So, what's your opinion? I'm not sure how I'll choose the best answer, for it's really a question of opinion, but I definitely will.
7 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoWhat's the most "poetic" way of saying this?
I'm looking for both the female and male word for a "fellow". As in, fellow man and fellow woman (though I know the latter is definitely not correct). I'd like it to sound more poetic, elegant.
As in, when you speak of Tolkien's "fellowship of the ring", what do you call a single member of that?
Thanks a lot in advance!
2 AnswersLanguages9 years agoIl caso strano di Aldo Moro?
4 AnswersStoria9 years agoWhat actor would you say looks a bit like yoda?
I know it's a bit of a funny question, but I've been searching the internet for (elderly) actors that look like Yoda and I couldn't find anyone who really fits. What would you guys say?
3 AnswersMovies9 years agoWhat do you think of when you hear of the following mythological creatures?
Apart from the classical clichés (such as pointy ears, green skin, water, fishtails) what do you think when you hear of the following creatures?
a) Elves
b) Witches/warlocks
c) Unicorns
d) Phoenixes
e) Dragons
f) Nymphs
I'm especially looking for stuff that has NOT to do with appearance, but more like character traits, feelings.
Most creative answer gets the 10 pts.
Thanks for sharing your opinions.
PS: My thoughts: Elves - woodland, intelligence, aloofness; Witches/Warlocks - Nature, Element bending; Unicorns - truth, fear, purity; Phoenixes - fire, reincarnation, the new and unknown, repetition; Dragons - fire, gold, anger; Nymphs - blue, love, Arielle (even though she's a mermaid), manipulation.
4 AnswersMythology & Folklore9 years agoWhat do you think about fiction authors changing "reality" to their liking?
Okay, the title of the question doesn't really put it right, but I didn't know how else to say this. Lately I've been wondering about what readers (and other writers) think about....
a) Authors changing scientific facts to their liking, such as explaining black holes or day and night in a different way. Example: The sun shines in a certain place not because of the burning star in space, but because there's a second world out there where someone lights a candle (okay, I know this is stupid, but it's an easy example).
b) Authors who use already existing cultures, tribes, believes, such as Wicca, to explain their stories, but who change those. Example: She is a Wicca (witch), but she can really do magic by the harnessing the power of the Elements, however she doesn't believe in the God and Goddess the real Wiccans believe in.
c) Authors who write new creation myths and other legends for their stories, based off existing myths, such as writing about Odin and Walhalla and whatnot, but changing the entire mythology behind it (using only characters, that is).
d) Authors using existing concepts of mythological beings, but changing them completely. Example: a unicorn is no longer a horse, but an antropomorphic creature, who is very pure and true and loyal, has a horn on their forehead and is touched only by virgin girls. And is it better in such a case if they change the name, like unicorn becomes horned man or whatever?
It's just something I'm currently dealing with, especially d), because I'm doing these things in my story. I was just wondering if it would bother the reader, or if they would just think it was something entirely new. Of course I know that it depends on how I write. If you want explanation on how I intend to do this, just ask. But I don't think it's crucial to answering the questions, and I'd rather not.
Right, so if my question has been clear enough and comprehensible, I'd love to hear your opinion.
Thanks a lot.
