How can I power my GTX 770?
I have a GTX 770 and a 650w PSU, but I don't know how to power my card.
The card has an eight pin (150w) and six pin (75w) socket, and I'm fairly sure both need to be connected. However, I can only free two four-pin molex plugs. I am using a four pin ATX cable to power the motherboard and two data power cables for the CD-ROM and HDD.
What can I do?
3 AnswersAdd-ons8 years agoTemporary work, ideally in the Cambridge or London areas?
So, Yahoo! Answers, here's the situation:
I'm a recent English Literature graduate from Cambridge University, looking for postgrad work in 2010. That means a twelve month gap between now and the opening of a course, which I want to make the most of. I was thinking of perhaps trying to gain work experience in one of the sectors I was interested in, so that I could decide exactly if academia was the route I really wanted to go into. At any rate, I want a *reasonably* well paid temp job to at least help a little with my financial situation next year.
So, ideas? The sector I was interested in was advertising / copywriting / public relations. Give me the benefits of your wisdom, Yahoo!
1 AnswerLondon1 decade agoCottage cheese recipes?
I've been wanting to reduce my calorie intake for quite a while, now, and looking at cottage cheese, it looks as though I may well have an excellent, tasty, low fat ingredient to exploit.
One problem, though - I've no idea what to do with it. I've seen sweet recipes, but not many savoury options. So, let me lay down the gauntlet: can you offer any ideas for using cottage cheese in a main course?
The best ideas get ten points, so get typing!
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoData recovery techniques?
Don't worry. I'm not some terrorist trying to quickly dispose of incriminating information. But I am interested: supposedly, it's possible for forensics specialists etc. to recover data from a hard drive even after a zero fill. But how? If every single cluster is full of zeroes, how on earth could someone obtain information from the disc?
2 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoRAM over 4GB (programming newbie question)?
This is more a matter of trivia, but I wondered - how exactly do certain new systems deal with more than 4GB of RAM? Normally, the 4GB limit exists because the offset and segment values go from 0-65,535 in each case, correct? So what do new systems do?
Are segments now represented by four, rather than two bytes, in the newer architectures, for instance? Do we now get addresses like xxxx xxxx: xxxx xxxx?
5 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoShould I rest or soldier on?
I'm on the approach to exams right now, with lots of work on, but I think I'm ill. I've a runny nose, I ache all over, I've a headache, and I feel sick. My question is: should I rest up to help get over it, or should I take the time off to try and recover? I'm probably well enough to do some typing, but not to *really* concentrate.
I can tell I'm quite tired, too - my left eyelid always starts to spasm when I'm fatigued (sounds worse than it is), and it's doing so now. Plus, my testicles are aching, which they often do when I'm ill - I had a reaction to a mumps vaccine that started this, and ever since, when ill, I've had similar symptoms. According to my doctor, this isn't uncommon. There's no doubt I'm ill - but how should I respond?
4 AnswersMen's Health1 decade agoPasta problems, water woes?
Well, this will sound like an odd question, but, whenever I cook pasta, it always ends up leeching out water once it has been on the plate. Not a little moisture, but an awful lot of the stuff. This is after it has been drained thoroughly - the pasta seems to hold it in until it has cooled down.
Is there any way I can stop this? It makes the sauces all watery and unpleasant. I find the same sometimes happens with rice.
Can any of you help?
9 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoOvercoming anger, and learning to forgive?
Currently, I feel very, very angry with my mother, and also, to an extent, with my stepfather. I won't go into details, as it isn't all that important. But I cannot help but feel as though I am entirely unable to forgive them, or even to understand their actions. I feel as though I was betrayed at a moment of vulnerability, and this is something difficult to put behind me.
But I know I've nothing to gain by living my life in rage. What good would it do? Would it make me any happier to continue feeling this way about my family? Of course not. I know this; I believe this; but following this is not so simple. I have never confronted them, though sometimes I wonder about it - perhaps once things are out in the open, they can be then pushed away, 'contained', understood as the matter of an older, former time. Then again, there's a huge risk involved. I've really no idea where to go from here.
2 AnswersFamily1 decade agoComputer slow after hibernation?
My laptop is always very slow for several minutes after being brought out of hibernation. I'm really not sure why. It's a Packard Bell Easynote with a Centrino Duo processor, and 1Gb RAM, if that's any help. I'm running Windows XP SP3, and I'm powering the laptop by mains, rather than by battery.
4 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoI don't know what I feel.?
I have no idea what I feel, in fact I rarely do. It is not so much that I have no feelings, more that I cannot either name them nor properly know them. It is something related to anger and fear, and I know that I suffer from clinical depression, but aside from that I have little to say. Physical discomfort in the form of heartburn, that often accompanies stress, and a difficulty sleeping are noticeable symptoms.
I am in a malaise about by studies, too. I feel terrible for procrastinating, but the thought of work fills me with - well, not dread (though it used to), but some unnameable aversion. It is not quite fear, or ennui, or boredom, it is... I don't know. I know that I am ill, but I wish I had a more secure sense of what is wrong.
3 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoQuestion about magma or molten steel?
This will sound unusual, but I've always wondered: just how hot are molten materials such as lava and steel? I know the sorts of temperatures they reach on the Celsius scale and so forth, of course, but what I really want to know is how warm they feel - could you approach molten steel and be within a few feet, unprotected, without being burned? If I fell in a blast furnace, just how long would I be conscious?
4 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoDoes anyone have any advice how to start writing articles?
I've been looking into journalism for some time, and thought that the best way to test the water would be to just get out there, and write some articles.
However, I'm stuck for inspiration. I'm only looking to write very short pieces at first, requiring little research, so that I can focus on spending my energies on improving my writing style. As such, any suggestions for even very short articles would be appreciated.
3 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoTo what extent does wealth equal effort?
Well, this question is self-explanatory. It arose when a correspondent related his political opinions, insisting that his good fortune was a result of hard work and self-discipline. A closer examination of his lifestyle revealed that he had been blessed with an extraordinarily easy existence, and possessed a remarkable tendency to whine on suffering the most minor of privations.
Do you think that this is common, or a rare example of our economic systems failing? Do most who espouse the 'hard work' philosophy, in your opinion, actually have experience in the self-discipline they preach? Tell me your opinions.
5 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoUnresponsive internet?
I've an odd problem with my internet connection. Sometimes, regardless of the browser I use, the computer simply...well, it doesn't do anything. The link clicks, so to speak, but after a moment claiming that the page is 'loading' it apparently forgets what it is doing. The lower status bar will say 'Done' but nothing has happened - and these are otherwise active, normal links, not dummy URLs or the like.
Could someone help me?
1 AnswerOther - Internet1 decade agoWhat are some easy ways to save money on food?
With food prices rocketing, with fuel and transport costs growing at an unprecedented rate, and with world economies facing tricky times, I wanted some advice on how to cook more frugally.
I've already discovered that chicken thighs are a small portion of the cost of breast meat, and that once boned they often prove a far superior alternative in soups, stews, and curries. Does anyone have any other tips to share, or tasty recipes as easy on the wallet as they are on the tastebuds?
18 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoCan you help me banish my embarrassment?
I'm a student who is about to take a job in a supermarket. However, as strange as it sounds, I can't help but feel anxious that people will look down on me, that they will regard me as unintelligent or lacking capacity somehow, when they see me in a supermarket (not only the public, but also other members of staff). Now, I'm confident that I'm quite capable (I'm a student at Cambridge!), yet nevertheless I'm rather concerned with their judgments of me.
Are my concerns well founded? Am I simply being absurd? Any advice is appreciated.
2 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoLiving with someone hard to deal with?
First, an outline of the situation: I'm a student who has been diagnosed with depression, and had to take leave of absence from university. I've moved home for a few months and am getting better, but I still have trouble. Today's actually one of the better days, thankfully, but there are other moments where...well, you know the symptoms of the condition.
The problem is my stepfather isn't entirely sympathetic, and is demanding that I find employment, even though my GP has explicitly told me to avoid work for several months yet. I am currently in a quagmire with regards financial support, and currently am without income. The fear of being homeless is constant; I'm living for the moments where I don't dread it.
How can I get out of this situation? My stepfather seems to believe that my being indoors will make my depression worse: If anything, having my CBT materials on hand is a great help. He believes I am 'dwelling' on matters, but in all honesty it doesn't work like that.
3 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoDepression and employment?
I've been recovering from depression for a little while now, and I wanted to get outside more often and back into meeting people. My question is: should I start looking for employment, and where should I look? I'm still not well, and I still have some very bad times, so it can't be one where I'm under pressure. Likewise, though I want to meet people, I'm still having trouble with the idea of being in full view of many people - I still have certain social anxieties.
Besides which, I'm not keen on supermarket or fast food employment, because I absolutely hate being looked down upon. I'm no idiot, nor lazy, though I suppose my paranoia about appearing intelligent is that which caused me to take time out from university in the first place.
So, what should I look into? Could voluntary work be an option? How would voluntary work interact with my state benefits? Money is not so much a matter as getting out of the house - I could sell essays for plenty of money, but I want to meet people.
3 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoDoes anyone out there have any decent sleep techniques?
I already know the preambles to sleeping. Warm milky drinks and plenty of physical exercise was our mothers' advice, and I'm not one to mess with mum. But, what about sleep techniques? That is, any activities you use or special methods of relaxation that helps really get you off?
Any ideas are appreciated.
7 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoHow do I deal with cnidophobia?
I have a real fear of stings - nettles and wasps, especially. It's not that I find them especially painful, I just have real panic when I encounter them. Nettles are by far the worst: the sight, even the smell, makes me hyperventilate and become anxious.
It's really making it hard to go out sometimes, and I have nightmares related to stinging nettles. Even a picture of a nettle on a nettle tea packet makes me sacred. What can I do?
