  • Solutions in regards my neighbor with a vicious dog on the fenceline?

I was riding on our property yesterday, and the neighbors pitt bull-type dog ran up the fenceline(which by the way is on our property, neighbor's mistake/his fence) - growling, barking, snapping his teeth violently. He did this while the horse's back was turned, and the horse bolted. Horse had on a snaffle bit, and was totally caught up in the moment - I intentionally bailed in soft sand to avoid a wreck.

I walked the horse up to the fence and the dog was still going at it. If he could have jumped the four foot fence I have no doubt he would have tried to kill either the horse, or me.

Anyone here have a similar experience? What did you do?

I'm inclined to consider legal options, and all helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Please don't suggest I talk to this guy, because everytime I've tried, he seems to have his head stuck up his nether region...!

  • Pulling ticks still?

Rather than respond to a question about tick removal, I thought I'd put this sure fire method of removal here, as it is a common problem this time of year.

Rotate that tick - it doesn't matter which direction, but the head has to go around too. Don't just move it back and forth - it has to be in a circle. Don't pull it - that hurts(!) and might leave the head in, cause infections, etc. Works on all animals, including people.

Has anyone used this method and not had it work within 30-60 seconds?

  • Any info on pre-treatment of split leather seat on saddle?

I don't want to ruin a new saddle by letting the seat get wet when it rains, or using the wrong product and having it mess up the leather - or my pants, for that matter. ;)

Scotchguard for ruff out/split leather, or just live with it and try to clean it afterwards? Suggestions appreciated...

  • Shopping for a trainer....?

I am looking for a trainer for my three year old filly. I went to see one the other day - he seems to be competent, cowboy-type trainer - BUT...

He was drinking a beer before he got on the horse. I have no idea if he had had more beer before the one he was already drinking.

I'm curious as to how many people would take this as a negative thing - I know it has made me think twice about using him. Maybe the horses like the smell of beer, but I'm feeling just a little leary....

My horse has excellent ground manners, is smart and respectful, and I'd hate her to be pushed real hard in a session if I thought he might not have the patience, because of the drinking.

The colt he was working (his own) seemed to have attitude problems - kind of adversarial. Hard to know if he had these problems before.

    All thoughtful answers appreciated!

I have a qh gelding I'm trying to research. If anyone could see the lineage for a couple of generations back for "Coke's Leo Bar" (0270748) and "Ray's Peggy" (0077416) at AQHA's website, I'd be a very happy camper....! :) Thanks!
