  • Can anyone identify this movie (telemovie) please?

Can anyone identify this movie (telemovie) please?

It was on TV around 1983 have been made earlier. A TV station played it to boost ratings around the time "The Day After" was aired Australia- wide. If I recall, it was aired soon after.

    The plot as I recall:

A small town either in England, or maybe Canada was isolated and the population written off when a truck or train crashed nearby, dispensing contaminated waste into the atmosphere. A police officer from another town volunteered to go to the town and help the people as they and he awaited certain death.

If I recall, the movie ran for two weeks - a mini series if you like.

  • Facebook - Using an Alias or Non De Plume?

Him Folks, please understand that I'm totally Facebook Ignorant.

I'm an author and use a Non de Plume. For those of you who don't know what that means, I assume a different name or alias whenever I publish an article, and that's often. I wish to start a Facebook presence to help boost my readership, but my non de plume is a bit too tongue-in-cheek for Facebook and they won't accept it. They require my real name, which I refuse to give.

How do I set up a Facebook account using my non de plume so that visitors can't discover my true identity?

Facebook says "Contact Us", but how long does such a huge conglomerate take to get back, and will they ever accept a tongue-in-cheek name? I had no problems with Twitter or Yahoo, but they allow the use of nicknames and they keep my real name a secret.

  • Need help/advice setting up a private Torrent group?

I belong to a group of 5,000 plus who constantly share modules for a piece of software. There are over 40,000 modules and they're currently downloaded from a single overloaded server. It would be great if members who've already downloaded these modules could share them via P2P with a growing list of new members. I already have a catalogue prepared that can list the 40,000 items and supply the torrent. I'm thinking of running the catalogue behind a private membership site with an fee of $5 to cover running costs. That is also taken care of.

What I don't know, is anything about the deployment of torrents themselves. Can they be used with any existing torrent program like uTorrent, or do I have to set up my own. If my members use uTorrent, will the modules be accessible by other bit-torrent users, or are they kept private?

I keep reading about Torrent Trackers but don't know what they do.

    Thanks in advance

  • Looking for an online game store or similar script?

I need a shopping cart with some unique features, but they're often found in on-line game stores:

People with virtual products can create an account and upload them.

Customers can create an account and deposit say $20 via Paypal

Customers can browse products and purchase one or more to value of (say) $20.

It must be a decent storefront.

    Downloads are made available

Suppliers accounts are credited with sale minus set commission.

Supplier can look up account at any time to see his/her earnings

Suppliers are paid monthly or when sales reach a certain figure.

    Optional

Suppliers can purchase other suppliers products from earnings.

Do you know of such a script or something close, preferably in PHP?

    Thanks

  • Is anyone having problems getting listed with Bing?

My web site ranks extremely well with Yahoo and Google and I expected the Bings spiders to eventually find it. Not so I'm afraid! After two months, Bing subscribers (if any) still haven't heard of my site. About a week ago, I asked Bing to spider my site, but one week down the track, a direct keyword search on my URL still comes up with nothing.

Maybe Bing rejects Directory sites. Although mine is a directory, it's for a specific product "Trainz" and all 1,000 listed sites are 100% Trainz related. Google and Yahoo both like it, but not Bing.

    Has anyone else experienced delays?

  • CSV to MySQL (PHP script required)?

I need to copy around ten data feeds to a MySQL database about once a week. I know I can do it using MySQL Load Data command, but I'd much prefer to use a PHP script that contains some flexibility. Our friends at Hotscripts list several, but every link leads to a 404 error. This is a pretty simple script and I could probably write my own easily enough. But why bother when there are supposed to be dozens already out there?

Does anyone know where I might find such a script? BTW, this question has been asked several times before, but all the "Best Answer" links are also dead.

  • Script to check links in a MySQL database?

I have a directory that contains 800 listings with over 1,000 links to other web sites. Everything is MySQL database driven. I need a script to check each link against 404 errors. This task seems relatively easy for HTML pages, but not when the links are embedded in a database. Hotscripts lists one script that should do the job, but the link is dead :) Hotscripts needs to use such a script itself. Over half the listings on that site now have dead links. I'm prepared to consider a low priced commercial product, but free sounds good..

My site is http://trainzresouces.com/ if anyone wants to take a look. It's a resource database for a Railroad Simulator.

  • search engine (spider) to look at specific sites only?

Scenario: I have a site dealing in say mp3 music of a certain genre (say jazz). Each page on the site has a listing for a specific song along with a short description.

I'm looking for a PHP script that will allow my visitor to click a button called "Find Suppliers" or whatever, that will search a database or nominated web sites for that song and report back with the name and URL of that website - not the page the song was found on.

There are two dozen or so web sites concerned. Each is an affiliate site, but not all have the same songs.

I could spend hundreds of hours building my own database, but it would never be up-to-date. I need some kind of spider to search these sites weekly or monthly, then store the information in a MySQL database on my server. There are probably 50,000 items involved and as many as 75% of the web sites could be offering that item, but not necessarily by the same artist/manufacturer.

The resulting search results need to show links with the name of all suppliers and nothing else. I need to be able to add my affiliate code to that link.

Does anyone know of such a program or one that may do the job? I'm prepared to pay but my finances are limited. I'm using Zen Cart to list the products but I should be able to combine the two.

In a nutshell, I'm looking for a spider type program I can get to spider sites of my choosing, and build a database, coupled to a simple search box. A search query would be along the lines of "St Louis Blues".

If you know of suck a script, your help is appreciated. I've already checked Hotscripts, but found nothing.

  • VCR settings - Channels and Pre-Programming LG only?

I have a LG VCR-DVD home theatre combo DT-585w with no user guide. Can someone help with setting up the channels, pre-programming etc, or supply a copy of the user guide? It's not available at LG or the user guide download sites.

  • Program to analyse lotto systems?

does anyone know of a good program that will analyse lottery systems? I need something to analyse past results in Australia's 6 from 45 with two sups.

The program must be able to handle system entries up to system 10 and scan past results for winning combinations right down to 3 plus 1 sup.

If I can enter ticket costs and wins, that would be a real bonus.

I'm not looking for any prediction software here, just an analyser. I'd like something in a reasonable price range which includes free of course.

  • Does anyone use Clarion RAD?

Although I own the program, I haven't done any development for 6 years. I need to find out how to do a couple of things like entering paths into a field using the Windows Open File or (lookup) window. If you can help, please enter a very short response (not a solution) here and I'll be more specific with my questions. Because the program is almost unheard of, I don't want to waste time asking if nobody answers.

  • Doing research again - What do you consider best sites for internet Adult newbies?

You see it all the time on YA and I keep getting asked by newbies - "What is there to do on the Internet and where can I go?" For those of us who know our way around, this seems like a stupid question. Not so for newbies who can't get past the Google search screen. Before you help me here, please keep in mind that I'm mainly talking about adults, often as old as your mom and dad! I think young people can work things out for themselves or ask around at school. The information will go on my tutorials web site http://pctutorials.at3host.com/ and I'll put your YA username against the places I choose as acknowledgement. Here's my list, can you offer a few more please?

    Yahoo Answers (of course)

    YouTube

    MySpace

    Facebook

    Google Maps

    Google Earth

    Google Catalogs

    Amazon

    Internet Movie Database

    Internet Music Database

    Wikapedia

    BBC, ABC, Newspapers

    WebCams (ideas please)

    Flicka

I'm looking for general interest sites more than niche sites. The idea is to get them started.

  • Has anyone made a complaint to Yahoo Answers and received a reply?

I've just made a very serious email complaint to the Yahoo Answers team, but I'm wondering if they will (a) act on it and (b) let me know the results. I ask this because I've made two complaints in the past over minor matters and they've only sent a totatly unrelated mechanical reply. Has anyone had any luck?

  • CamStudio playback too large!?

Hi, I've just downloaded CamStudio. Everything is fine except that the movie is far too large. It's actually the same size as my screen, but most Video capture programs make the movie about 75%. There is an option to reduce to 50% and 25%, both of which are too small. I have to record the whole desktop, so doing a region is not the answer. I like this program but the movie size is a concern. Also I can't find a CamStudio forum anywhere and i find that a bit strange. Are there any settings inside or outside the program where I can reduce the movie size to about 800 x 600 or 75%?

  • Looking for free WYSIWYG Drag & Drop web designer?

This is for a research project. I'm looking for a FREE WYSIWYG Drag & Drop web design program that uses layers to position objects. This means the user can type a heading or insert a graphic and slide them anywhere on the screen. So far I have found one called Serif WebPlus 6, but it's quite old and many features don't work with Firefox. If they did, it would have done the job. Other commercial programs that have this facility are WYSIWYG Web Builder (the one I personally use), WebEasy and Serif WebPlus 10 but none are free. I already know about Nuv, Kompozer and Amaya but these don't do what I want. it must be Drag & Drop and free. Any ideas?

  • Old Documentary series of England taken entirely from helicopters. Any ideas?

I can't tell you much as I only saw one episode which was on the disused (but now reopened) the canal systems in England. Other episodes covered things like ancient ruins and whatever. The series was shown on Australian ABC in the mid to late 70's - in colour. I assume it was made in the UK as it was ONLY the UK featured in the docos. I thought they were appropriately called "A Bird's Eye View" but constant searching on the Internet has failed to come up with anything. Any ideas?

  • Can you identify a motor cruiser in recent BBC TV series?

I was watching a BBC mini series Three men In A Boat on Sunday (Australia). A white cabin cruiser around 30 ft was briefly featured. I'm trying to identify this boat. Here some details:

I have no idea what episode it was. I only saw 15 minutes, however it was the episode where there was a fireworks display at a castle. Just before the powerboat was featured, one of the cast went fly fishing.

The boat was a white aft cabin cabin cruiser around 30-35ft. It looked like a production boat from the UK around the 70's 80's, but maybe newer. It was pretty much fully enclosed for the colder British climate and as far as I could see, it was inboard powered. Does any power boar enthusiast know the boat manufacturer or any other information? If you didn't see the show, please don't waste your valuable time guessing from the limited information I've supplied.

Sorry, I never recorded the show so I can't direct you to a photo.

  • Does anyone else have trouble answering questions?

Please, don't answer this if you only make answers ocassionally. It's aimed at people who answer very regularly.

Nine times out of ten I receive an error message. It's either "OOPS", a timeout, or the page just won't complete. here's the average:

Always - Page won't complete. Have to refresh up to half a dozen times, often taking minutes to get through. Possibly caused by others also answering same question.

4 out of 10 Bad request

3 out of 10 OOPS message

2 out of ten Grey screen Timeout.

1 out of 10 Answer gets through first time.

Do you have similar problems or am I alone on this one? Happens day or night.

  • Can you name this sailing song?

It's on an old movie clip with no acknowledgements. It's so bad I can only pick up a phrase or two in the entire song. Here's what I can here, but the phrases are NOT one after the other or in the correct order.

    The sailor's wife is crying....

    There love is far away...

    The sea became his wife...

    Sailors song...

It's a blues rock number with some pretty long guitar solos. The singer sounds a bit like Rod Stewart and I first thought it may have been the Jeff Beck Group. It's definitely not the "Sailor's Song" or "I'm Sailing" by Rod Stewart. Any ideas?
