  • Air travel 27 weeks pregnancy?

    Hi,

I have an opportunity to go to Istanbul on an official trip during July 2nd week. I have planned to go with my wife and our 3 yr old son. My wife is conceived now and she will be 27 weeks during travel. The travel time will be 4 hours straight. Is it okay to go ahead with travel or are we taking some stupid risks here?

As of now the pregnancy is normal although during first trimester she experienced some bleeding due to vigorous vomitting. Our son’s delivery was normal and had no complications. Dr has said that she can give a go ahead only after an ultra sound scan three days before the date of travel and she cannot give any opinion now. Also I have to purchase the ticket and confirm the hotel booking maximum by tomorrow (involves heavy penalty should there be a cancellation).

I know yahoo answers is not the perfect forum to discuss a sensitive case like this. But any advise would be appreciated

  • Toyota RAV 4 Synthetic oil and Tyre change?

    Hi,

    Couple of questions

    1. I have been using Castrol edge synthetic 5w 40 for my Toyota rav 4 (2010). The manual recommends 5w 30 only. When I checked with service station(not a Toyota one but a locally renowned station) they said it doesn’t make much of a difference and its fine to use 5w 40. This synthetic oil requires changing at 10,000 kms. However when I checked the oil at 7,500 kms it was damn black in colour and was very thick. Now I am a bit worried whether using 5w 40 was a right decision. I have used it twice so far.

And does it make really sense to spend money on synthetic oil which costs me almost double that of normal oil.

    2. Secondly my car has ran around 44,000 kms. On a recent service check the mechanic said that the tyres are not in good condition and need to be changed. There are small cracks (lines) between the treads. I have checked with Toyota and couple of other stations and they all said the same. My city (Riyadh) has a very hot and dry weather with summer temperature easily reaching 45c to 50c with no rain throughout the year. I have taken a 2000 km trip to Jeddah(to and fro) seven times during last couple of years with speeds ranging from 100 – 170 km / hr. The roads are little rough (and sometimes potholed) with poor grip. As for me I don’t do rash driving, avoid or go slow on potholes and take good care of my car and tyre as much as possible. I was expecting the life of the tyre should be atleast 70- 80,000 kms and was disappointed with such a low mileage on tyres. Is it okay to run on this tyres for another 10,000 kms or so.

Could you guys advise me on the above two issues.

    Thanks

Suggestions on sci fi movies (preferably on parallel universe) are also welcome.
