  • Young cockatiel keeps crying! Help!?

We just got a cockatiel, about a month old. She's been weaned and can eat on her own. The problem is she has a tendency to make that scratchy crying noise over and over. ONLY when she's out of the cage and with us, though. When she's in the cage, she just chirps and behaves normally. Even when we take her out and put her on the cage or anywhere else, she's just fine. But she likes to climb on us and run up to our faces and shoulders and then she starts up with the noise.

I *think* it's an attention-related thing... but I wanted to see some other theories... and also any advice for how to get her to stop...

    Many thanks!

  • Loestrin 24 placebo pills?

I'm on my first pack of Loestrin24 and am super confused about the brown placebo pills. Basically, do I take them? I know that taking them means you get your period. Fine, whatever, I don't care whether I get it or skip it. But I also know that the placebos DO NOT prevent pregnancy. So what's the deal? Shouldn't I keep taking the active pills that DO prevent pregnancy?

Or am I supposed to take the placebos, get my period, and halt all sexual activity until I get back on the white pills?

  • Can I work at two rival companies?

I'm currently interning at one company part-time, and would like to get additional experience interning at a second place, as well. Except the other place is kind of ... what the first company would consider a rival. Is that weird? They're also in the same building... so they'd probably find out eventually. I guess that's only an issue if there's something wrong with doing this in the first place. Should I go for it anyway? It's a great opportunity, but I don't want to cause any awkwardness.

    Thanks!

  • I just started my job. Now I need to quit. How should I do it?

I recently moved to a new city and frantically applied to every job I was remotely qualified for. In a hurry, I took a part-time job in food service... but now I've been offered some part and full time positions in the industry I really want to work in ... and think I need to quit the first job. I hate doing this to them because they're really nice and I literally JUST started (it's been two days), but career-wise, it'd be bad for me to forgo the other opportunities.

My question is... what's the best way to do this? Can I leave immediately? How should I talk to my boss about this? It's super awkward! Would love to hear from others who've been in similar situations!

  • Can I distribute flyers at my apt complex as a warning?

I live in a hellhole of an apartment complex. I won't say which one here, but I'm angry to the point where I just want to screw them the way they screwed me. What are the laws if ... say, I want to post flyers around the complex (like an ad corkboard) saying, "DON'T MOVE HERE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD" -- I know it'll piss off the management, but screw them, I'm leaving soon, and no one deserves the hell that is living here. I just don't want to get in any legal trouble.

    Thanks.

  • Trying to switch credit cards -- advice?

I'd like something with a good rewards program, preferably a wide range of possible rewards or cash back (not just from one store or something).

I don't spend enough to be able to get use out of the BIG reward cards, like airline miles ones.

I currently use Chase's Amazon card, but I'm getting kind of tired of being restricted to just Amazon purchases for my rewards. I've been looking at the following:

    Chase Freedom Signature Visa

    Chase Flexible Rewards Platinum Visa

    Citi mtvUTM Platinum Select Visa

    Blue (Amex)

    Blue Cash (Amex)

    Blue Sky (Amex)

    Optima Platinum (Amex)

    Clear from (AmEx)

I'd love to hear from someone who has had experience with any of these cards?

I also wouldn't want anything with annual fees. For the record, I'm a college student with a clean credit record, but I don't like a lot of the Student cards out there because I'm pretty good with handling my credit. Thanks!

  • Are all GPS systems the same?

Does it matter what country I buy a GPS system in? For example, if I get one in Australia, will it work back in the U.S.?

    Thanks!

  • Job issues... what should I do?

Need some advice from people with experience.

I'm about to get promoted at my job, and I know I got the job because I'm well-connected (I've known my supervisors for years--we're like best friends). But a couple of my co-workers are pissed that I'm getting special treatment, especially because I don't meet one of the qualifications they listed when they posted the job for other people.

If they complain to the higher-ups, will my supervisors get in trouble? I was told one of them was thinking of suing. (Which is ridiculous--everyone knows her degree alone doesn't make her qualified) I'm just worried because, like I said, they ARE my friends, and I'd rather they didn't risk anything for me. Thanks!

  • Just got an LG Shine! Help!?

I just got an LG Shine CU720, and I'd like to use it as an MP3 player. Do I need to buy a separate memory card for this?

Also, I'm getting a USB cable for it, but I've heard I need some kind of software to use it? Where can I find this software?

    Thanks!

  • Advice on getting a cell phone in NZ?

I'll be in NZ for four months (coming from the States) and I'll need a temporary cell phone for the duration. Ideally, I'd like something cheap and easy and reliable. I don't really care about bell and whistles or special features. In reality, I won't be making a lot of phone calls (only emergency-related stuff), but I'll probably just text a lot. Anyone with experience dealing with this have any advice? Thanks!

  • Dr. Who (question -- no spoilers)?

I'd like to start watching the show, but will I be totally lost if I don't watch one of the earlier seasons? I just wanted to know how much I'd miss out on if I started watching the new seasons. As we know, the series is ridiculously long... so I'd like to know before I go and try to dig up all five bajillion episodes. Thanks!

  • Weird question for Kiwis...?

So, I'm going to be in NZ for a semester. I will be working with a company as an intern. I know that sometimes, to be courteous at an event or just to be nice in general, you may end up having to bring "gifts" for people, like little gestures of appreciation or kindness. In my "information packet," I'm told that gifts from my home country (the States) could be appropriate.

But ... what does that mean? What do we have that you guys don't? I feel like whatever we can get, you can get just as easily. But I guess you guys can answer that question better than I can. If I were to bring things from America, what would you like to receive as a gift?

Weird question, I know, but thanks for helping!

  • St. Patty's Day in Boston?

Hey, I'm going up to Boston with a couple of friends around St. Patrick's Day.

What are the big/popular events going on around this time? I know there's a parade, but I'm sure there's more than that. Also, any restaurant recs? Thanks!

  • Quitting ... In-person or via phone?

I've got a part-time retail job that I've been with for three months or so. A couple of days ago, I got an internship offer that would cut into my work schedule. Granted, it doesn't pay, but it's actually relevant to my career goals.

It starts pretty soon, though. Which means I need to quit my job now. I want to be nice and give two weeks notice, but I won't see them until next weekend. Here's my dilemma: Can I do this over the phone?

I don't want to burn any bridges, and I want to leave on good terms. Would it be a bad idea to call them and say I want to quit? Or would I do better to find a time to just go in there and tell them? (Just seems like a waste of time because that'll take, like, five minutes to do, and it takes me 40 minutes to get there.)

I'm just unsure because it's not like this is a "real" job. It's just part-time work to earn a little extra money while I'm at school. I don't know if all the resignation etiquette still applies to me.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.
