  • Can I have a user linked to a Windows Server 2012 domain without a password?

I am about to try and set up a server at a primary school. What I want is to have one user called pupil that the children can use to log on without having to enter a password. Is this possible in a Windows Domain?

And what I'd also like is for 30 children in a class to be all using their own PC and signing in as pupil at the same time. Will this work?

  • Downgrade to Windows 7 from Windows 8 home?

If I downgrade from Windows 8 pro to Windows 7, I think I just load the Windows 7 disk and enter the win 8 pro key.

If I have a Windows 8 home installation, having purchase the right licence, how do I get to Windows 7?

Do I have to upgrade first from Windows 8 to Windows 8 pro and then go from Windows 8 pro to Windows 7? Or can I take my Windows 8 home PC and just load up Windows 7 and enter the new Windows 8 pro key?

  • How to get an image displayed in an HTML file in a web browser page of Windows Form?

I have a program I am writing in C# using visual studio. One Windows Form has a webBrowser and I can successfuly link this to an HTML file that I have put in resources.

But the HTML file has some IMG tags and when I open the HTML file on my computer of course these work because the images referred to are in the same folder as the HTML source. But when displayed from my application the images are not displayed.

I have tried putting the images into the resources, but the <IMG SRC=image.jpg></IMG> somehow needs to tell it to look in the Resources folder.

    Any suggestions?

  • How can I share a second hard drive in Linux?

I have a computer running Linux and I want to share some folders with write access. I have successfully installed Samba and shared the folders. I can see these over the network OK

For a folder in the Home directory I can set it so that I can read and write but I want to have a folder on a second hard drive (sdb1) and while I can share the folder on this drive and see it over the network - I cant get write access, The problem (I think) is that the drive has a user of root and not my normal user.

Anyone any ideas? I think what I have to do is to change the ownership of the folder from root to user, but I can't find a way of doing this.

  • Why is VAT charged on some Subway sandwiches and not others?

In Subway recently I bought a 6" Tuna for £2.79 and no VAT was charged and a 6" Teriyaki Chicken for £3.79 which actually cost £3.16 plus 63p VAT. There must be some rationale as to why cooked tuna is free and cooked chicken is not - does anyone know the rules?

  • Windows 7 lock icon locations?

Does anyone know how I can stop a user from changing the positions of the icons on the desktop. I work at a school and I have set up the grid and turned off auto arrange and got the icons in the places I want. Now I want to stop the children from moving them around. With XP and Vista there used to be SteadyState, but no longer in Win 7.

I think there is a way with group policy, but I've tried oodles of options and the icons can still be moved!

Alternatively if I could find where (in the registry?) the icon locations were stored, I could save this and restore it at startup

  • run bat pgm with administrator privileges at startup in Vista?

I want to exceute a program that runs as a command prompt and it works fine if I just run it in Vista. I hace set the shortcut to automatically have administrator access, because it needs it. Vista asks if this is OK (annoyingly!), but it runs OK.

But if I put the thing in the startup folder to run as the PC boots up, the command doesn't work.

    Any ideas

  • Laptop screen flickers?

I have a DELL laptop and it is fine, except when I am on the internet and then the screen flickers. It is not a bad lid connection because it doesn't flicker all the time and anyway moving the lid to different positions makes no difference. I have re-installed Windows to try and get rid of it and then re-installed the video drivers.

Any ideas? Why the heck is it when the internet is being used and not other times?

  • How can I promote my website?

I have a website on which I have available some programs I have written to help children learn their tables, spellings etc. I work at a Primary school and I wrote them for the school. I'd like to see them used more widely, mainly because I think it would be a good thing, but they are shareware, so I may get a few pennies out of it.

But how can I get the site nice and visible to anyone who wants software like this? any ideas?
