21. Super senior in college because 4 years wasn't enough hahaha. Majoring in math and physics. It's not as bad as you think, but I definitely could have chosen something easier...well, maybe. Likes: Beautiful women All things math Cars Parties Bars Cooking Eating Playing pool Button-ups Martial arts Helping others More eating Giving advice Living the dream Music of all kinds Dislikes: People who walk around with sticks up their asses. If you're looking for a new friend, go ahead and add me, I won't bite.
What can I do with a degree in applied mathematics?
I love math, so much so that I decided to major in it. It might be one of the most difficult things I've tackled, but I find it...rewarding. Sure, I plan to go on to get my Master's in applied math, but as of now, I often ask myself "what can I do with just a Bachelor's?" I often get asked if I want to teach (hell no), which led me to wonder how versatile this major really is for me.
So, can any of you provide me with a small (or large) list of jobs/occupations available for those who have a degree in applied math? It would be much appreciated.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)10 years agoHow do I recover files from my laptop's crashed hard drive?
Ok, here's the situation: I went to turn on my computer today, and all I get is a black screen. Sure, I still have my Taskbar, but that's it. Sure enough, my hard drive craps out on me. No mechanical problems as far as I know of, no ticking or loud obnoxious noises. I know, "why didn't you back your sh*t up to an external?", you ask. I've been strapped for cash believe it or not.
Main question: How do I go about recovering my files from my crashed hard drive so that I can put them on another HDD? Would it be easier (i.e. cheaper) to get this one repaired? I just want my music back :(
I'm open to any and all suggestions :)
Thanks in advance!
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhat are the main differences between mechanical engineering and mech. engineering tech?
Ok, I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands here. I'm a junior in college, and I finally realized that I'd like to do something that involves engineering. Only downside is that if I stay where I am, my only option is mech. engineering technology, and that I can't get a masters in it because it's usually not available.
In order for me to get into mechanical engineering, I'd have to transfer about half an hour away, and spend two years at another school (at a major cost) after finishing prep work at the school I'm currently attending. Only problem is that I don't know the difference between the two majors enough to make a real decision. I have no idea what to do anymore.
I'm not too concerned about the mathematics involved, I've got that covered. But yeah....help?
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoCare to answer a seemingly simple question about 4-speed automatic transmission?
Well, I've been driving my mom's car everywhere for the past month (I just got my license), and I've always noticed that on the gear shift, after [D], there are three numbers. I know the they refer to the other speeds (hence the "4" in 4-speed), but how/when exactly would one go about using them? Are they for specific driving conditions, or what? Can you shift between gears while you're driving or does it have to be done when you're not moving yet?
Yes, I'm bored.
For the record, I don't intend on using anything but first gear when driving my mom's car; she'd kill me if by some way she found out (which--knowing my luck--she will).
4 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoHow do I stop thinking about getting a girlfriend for the time being?
Background Info (feel free to skip to next part):
I've been single for roughly two years, I'll be a junior in college in the fall, but now I'm on summer break. Long story short, I've been meeting a lot interesting girls since I've been in college, but we were just too different. Over the past 4 months or so, I've made more of an effort to be more social with women, but that only happens when I'm hole-in-the-wall drunk at a club. I know, bad. Over the course of my two years in college, I've met two girls who liked me as much as I liked them, but being the screw up that I am sometimes, I messed that up (I've learned my lesson).
Important Stuff:
It's summer and I'm at home for break. I'm working on getting a job so I can buy a car, and I'm working out a lot more as well. I thought this would be enough to distract me from wanting a girlfriend, or even wanting to date, but it's not. I'm pretty much surrounded by people who are in relationships most of the time and it serves as a continual reminder that I'm single. So, what can I do to convince myself that a girlfriend isn't necessary (or even a distraction)? At least until I either get a car or until school starts back up.
Thanks for any helpful comments. I know this question sounds a tad bit desperate, so don't waste any time telling me what I already know....
3 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoWe all know that personality matters, but what can be done when that's what gets in the way of dating?
I've met a lot of attractive women during the two years I've been in college, but most of them have had very noticeable personality traits that can't be overlooked. Let's call them deal breakers. Since breaking up with my ex in October of 2008, I haven't had a date. I feel like I haven't given some of these girls a chance, but like I said, personality counts quite a bit. Some were too narcissistic, and some were far too uptight for my liking.
Before you answer, consider this: Would you give a person of the opposite sex a chance if they consistently exhibited a personality trait that you knew you couldn't deal with?
What should I do? Being single sucks sometimes. It's great when I'm out drunk with my friends having a good time at clubs, but it doesn't fill the void. Maybe I'm just meeting the wrong women. Advice? If it helps, I'm a 19 year old junior in college, and I've been told that I'm attractive and whatnot, but...yeah, I'm still getting screwed over. Should I just keep at the numbers game and hope probability prevails? Thanks in advance for any (helpful) advice.
3 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoIs it reasonable to only want to date someone who reminds you of your best/closest friends?
For all intents and purposes of this question, I'm referring to internal qualities, not external ones. Ya know, humor, kindness, attitude, etc etc.
Over the course of a college semester, I've had time to do some soul-searching, and I realized that I couldn't imagine being with a girl who wasn't as laid-back as my best friends. I'm actually kinda grateful that I didn't end up with some of the girls I initially had attraction towards, simply because I know my closest friends probably wouldn't enjoy being around them. Is that normal, or is it just weird?
1 AnswerPsychology1 decade agoWhat advice would you give someone whose desire to seek companionship is starting to become a detriment?
Before you read, I don't want to deal with anyone telling me how long it is because your attention span sucks, or insults because you don't have two brain cells to rub together (all for the sake of grabbing two points). The back button is but a click away, feel free to use it if your reading comprehension skills are like that of a 3rd grader.
Some short background info (feel free to skip):
Long story short, being single sucks. It sucks even more when the weather is getting warmer, and all these couples are out, either walking around holding hands, being generally lovey-dovey, playing catch with one another and other things couples do. It's all I see, and quite frankly, it's hard to concentrate on anything else. I'm a sophomore in college, and I've been single for a year and about 6 months. The only relationship I've had was with my best friend of 10 years, which lasted about 3.5 months. Out of it, I might have held hands with her once or twice. Nothing else. Not even a kiss.
Important stuff:
I can deal with the fact that I'm single (for the time being), I have no problem with that. I just grow tired of not being able to control how I view certain things. I can't count the number of times where I get slightly jealous when I'm around friends when they're cuddling with their significant others on a daily basis. It happens so often that all I see is that I'm being mocked. I wear a mask on the outside to prevent others from feeling the way I do, because I don't want them to pity me or anything. While seeing these couples on a daily basis is inevitable, the way I view it doesn't have to be. I don't know what it's like to wake up next to a girl you see as your world, but I know what it's like to hear my friends always talking about it. What can I do? It's becoming very depressing, and I don't know what to do. I miss enjoying life as much as I used to because of this. The longer I go without, the more jealous and slightly bitter I am towards those who have found someone. I hate admitting this fact, but it's undeniable. Help?
3 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoAfter how many let-downs should one consider lowering their standards?
Ok, here goes. I'm a 19 year old sophomore in college. I've been single, since...oh...October 2008. Despite my numerous attempts to get to know girls, I always end up going after the ones that:
a. Have boyfriends/are interested in someone else, but conveniently forget to tell me that when I become interested after getting to know them.
b. Turn me off from them after getting to know them.
c. Aren't upfront with me from the beginning (i.e. not interested, but don't say sh*t until it's too late and I like them).
d. Just aren't interested.
I will admit that some of my losses were my fault, but the vast majority of them weren't (I've since then fixed my mistakes). I've had plenty of people tell me that I'm a catch and all, but it doesn't seem very sincere coming from girls who probably would never date me. What should I do? I'm at my wits end. I don't think my standards are high at all. I've had attractive girls talking to me, but something happens where I get turned off from them. I want a decent looking, intelligent, has a good sense of humor kind of girl who has an overall good personality. I guess that's too much, huh? In any case, any advice? I feel like if I sit idly by and do nothing, I'm wasting time, and when I put some work into getting a girl, I get shot down (gently, hard, it varies). If my standards aren't the issue...I dunno. So, care to assist me?
P.S. If you're not going to try to help me and/or insult me, don't bother answering the question. If you do so, I'll just assume you can't read. Yes, that means I'm calling you retarded.
Thanks.
5 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoIs it odd that I find girls who wear glasses more attractive (preferably 18 years or older answering)?
Seriously. I've noticed that if a girl is wearing glasses, I find her to be better looking. Even a perfect ten goes up on the scale a couple notches. Is there anyone else out there who feels the same way as I do?
I think it kinda extends from a lot my past experiences where if a girl is wearing glasses, she was, for the most part, really smart (turn-on), or even a nerd as some would call it (also a turn-on). This was even before I got a pair of glasses for myself (I'm near-sighted, grr).
So, what say you? Oh yeah, any immature responses, keep them in your immature brains. I don't want to waste my time reading them, and I'm sure you don't want to waste time typing them.
9 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoLadies (preferably in college): Have you ever tried or considered trying speed dating?
I'm an 18 year old in my sophomore year of college, and I'm having trouble meeting girls....well, girls I'd like to date and girls who aren't with someone. Now, I don't wanna come off as conceited or anything, but I'm not a bad looking guy, I'm smart and I know where I'm headed in life. I suppose that isn't the point though lol.
Would you consider speed dating? If you've done it, what were your experiences like? I'm open to all opinions/personal stories. My university had two speed dating events last year, and it's a possibility that they'll do it again. Thanks ladies.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoLadies in college: how many of you (5ft-5ft 4) would go for a guy who is 5ft 7/5ft 8?
I'm bored, and a little curious. Ever since I've been in college (a year so far), most of the couples I see are very different when it comes to height. If the girl is 5ft, the guy is usually close to or above 6ft. This was even the case for my mom and dad, leading to my height now lol. Of course, I've seen a few couples that were my height and shorter, but they represent the minority.
For the most part, I'm comfortable with my height, but I feel a little disadvantaged sometimes when I get the chance to look around. Don't get me wrong, I have a good personality, and I guess average looks, but yeah. Ok, I'm done lol, discuss.
