  • How much would you pay for this horse?

5 year old registered American Paint Horse. 15.1hh. Sorrel and white overo, 50/50 color, VERY FLASHY. 100% bombproof, safe as they come. Anyone can ride him, nervous 6 year old walked him in a costume comeptition, on her own, in grass arena, with no trouble. Sweet, puppy dog personality, but never in your face. Curious and smart.

Beautiful long trot and canter. Natural even and level head set for the APHA competitor. Moves pretty enough to win the hack in the hunter ring. Smooth and consistent. Moves like he's 17 hands. Very little action. Schools 3'6-3'9 and winning the pre-childrens, ready to move up to 3 foot in the show ring whenever. Planning to go to marshell&sterling finals this year. Only been jumping for a year but his personality and talent helped training move quickly, loves to jump... Currently in training to finish him out western so he can compete in the next show season on the APHA circut. AMAZING jog. Currently finishing his lope. Should make a decent pleasure horse and great pattern horse in good company. Working on fine tuning showmanship and trail.

  • Sleepaway Camp... very important please help.?

I would like a sleepaway camp (preferably for the whole summer) where I can take my horse with me. It would be nice if it was for advanced riders who are looking to improve showing skills. I ride english (english pleasure and only a little jumping) and western (not ranch work although I wouldnt mind going to a camp for that and trail riding). I show on the APHA circit and have a four year old I'm training. I really would love to go away with him for a whole summer to a camp. In the US please. If it was around NJ like NY/Pensilvania/Virginia that would be amazing... Thanks for all your help!

  • Overbearing Mom and Unhelpful Trainer?

I've been riding for nearly 8 years and ever since I started I've heard the same thing over and over... "GET YOUR SHOULDERS BACK!" Every trainer I've ever had has told me that and I've always tried but as I'm sure all of you know, its hard to remember everything at once.

About 6 months ago I switched barns and was riding with an AMAZING trainer. She was kind and knew so much about horses and how to help me be a better rider it was great. She helped me train the little Quarter Horse I was leasing to jump and I was having a great time. Then I moved across the country.

The new barn I'm at is fine but they all ride hunter jumper while I do all-around. My old trainer found me a horse and sent him up but never got the chance to work with me and him because I was already gone when she found him. Hes an amazing boy but hes still learning, hes only four. That means I'm constantly training him. And at shows trying to keep him focused and on task. This brings me to my problem.

My mom up until we moved and I started showing up here has been very supportive. She never gets involved with coaching but is always there to help when I ask. Recently though, since I got my new horse, shes been starting to get more and more crazy about my riding. My new trainer isn't as easy-going as my last and is a little harsher when it comes to correcting me. Thats fine and I don't mind it but now my mom is saying "you need to work on your equitation, if you really think I'm going to take you to the APHA shows you need to atleast make an effort to ride better."

I am trying but when you've got a four year old and your trying to ride well its a little much. My mom keeps saying "well it's not like it's just because of the horse, people have always been telling you that." and its true they have. But it's not like I'm not making an effort. I really am trying. I don't like how all of a sudden she is picking at me like that.

I miss my old trainer because she always knew how to help me fix what was wrong instead of just telling me what my problem is. I know what my problems are I just don't know how to fix them and keep my horse going nicely. I would give anything to have my old trainer back but I can't because we moved. I hate having my mom telling me I'm not good enough to compete in bigger shows and I'm slacking off. I'm not. I try really hard.

She keeptelling me to show her I'm making an effort but I don't know how. and I really don't like having my mom coach me. We are really close but this is tearing us apart. I just want my supportive mom back. But I don't know how to tell her this.

  • Teaching a 4 year old horse to jump?

I bought a little 4 year old Paint gelding recently and am thinking about starting him jumping. He is closer to five (foaled in Feburary). I was talking to the vet about it and I know all the risks. My friend had a four year old and crippled him by jumping him too early. The vet said he could do some x-ray's to see if he is finished growing enough to start jumping. I'm only talking cross-rails MAYBE once a week. (I ride him 6 days a week). It would cost $200 to do the x-rays. The reason I need to get him doing crossrails is because there are 3 pleasure classes that include jumps (just little crossrails). Do you think it is worth it to have the vet do the x-rays or should I just put off jumping him till he's 5 or do you think it's ok to start him now without vet consent?

  • What do you think about this horse?

4 year old paint gelding. The video is a trainer who has been teaching him to lope for 30 days. You don't get to see him long trot on the video but it's HUGE and makes him look 17 hands. (he stands about 15.2) The reason he is so behind the vertical at certain points is because this is a video of him being trained to lope. I just bought him (still working on getting him shipped to me). Was 12,000 but I got him for 7,500... What do you think?

  • Questions to ask about horse I'm buying.?

I just recently moved and my trainer in GA found me a horse down there. He's getting vetted on moday. I've never riden him before because I couldn't make it down there to look at him (I just saw a vid. online) but my trainer trained him so she knows just what he's like and I totally trust her. Now assuming he passes the vet check and I'm getting him I have lots of questions about him here's my list...

What type of feed is he on now?

What type of turnout is he used to?

Where does he normally stand in his pasture group (dominate or not)?

Does he get rainrot or thrush easily?

    What is his blanket size?

    How often is he shod?

When is he due to be shod?

What kind of wormer is he on?

I also will ask for health records and stuff to know when he needs to get his immunizations and such.

I know about how he rides and everything I just need to know about his upkeep and stuff. Can you come up with anymore questions?

    Thanks!

  • Really nervous about oral surgery?

I met my surgen about a week and a half ago to talk about the surgery I was going to need. my i-teeth are still up in my gums/jaw bone area and he's going to go put braces on them and a chain that will come through my gums and will be cranked every time I go to the ortho so they can pull the teeth into place. I'm getting surgery on wednsday and I'm really nervous. I have to get anistia and I'm just freaking out about something going wrong and losing my life. I know it's silly to think that way and everything but I still can't help but worry. Any advice or statistics to help ease my worries???

  • Help with names for new horse!?

He is a reg. paint horse. chestnut and white. No blue eyes. He's a goof ball and absoulutly darling. He is a feirce competitor. I'm planning on doing all around with him. Were going to beat all those big warmbloods in HUS :) lol. Anyway, he's by Think I'm Hot. So I was thinking "Hottie" will be his name.

I just moved from Georgia to New Jersey and he is coming from Georgia so I thought maybe "Rebel" to keep his southern roots... Which do you like? Any other suggestions? Thanks guys :)

  • Conviencing my friend whats right for her?

I just moved to NJ. Before I knew I was going to move I had switched barns. I loved the little quater horse I was 1/3 leasing but my trainer didn't want to sell him so I had to give up my very first horse to switch. I loved the barn and all my friends at it, but I wasn't learining anything. There were like 7 girls in a lesson with a "jr. trainer" (one of the highskol girls who were barely older than me). I knew I had advanced past what this barn could offer. Even though it broke my heart to leave my horse of 2 years I knew I had to for myself.

After I switched I couldn't have been happier. My parents let me start looking for horses with my new trainer who was INCREDIBLE over 25 years of experience with every kind of riding imaginable. She is also just a kind giving person. Then I had to move and blah blah blah. Now, when I left the first barn I was at 2 of my friends decided that they should too. One of them had been planning to for a year and never told anyone, and she kept her horse and moved. The other is moving at the end of the show season to the new barn.

One of my other friends (I have known her my whole life and we are best friends) is still at the old barn. She has a few friends there still but she hates it. She complains all the time about it. She even took some lessons with the trainer at the new barn and LOVES her. She won't switch barns though because of the horse she is half leasing. If she could take the horse with her she would switch but she cant so she wont. I've tried talking to her about it but she says she wont leave her horse.

I feel like she is trapping herself. she is never going to be able to have that horse. and she needs to learn that horses aren't pets, you don't get to keep them for always. (atleast for her I know she wont). I know she'd be happier if she moved barns but she won't leave the stupid horse. Its not even that great of a horse. Its the meanest mare you've ever met, but she gets away with everything because she is pretty. I want to try to get her to see that she needs to move on but I don't know how... any suggestions?

  • What do you think of this horse?

10 year old double registered Paint/Pinto mare. Has sat out in a pasture for four years but remembers all her western pleasure training as well as horsemanship and trail. 10+ jog. Very willing and eager. Also can team pen. Very very sweet disposition with no vices. Un-mareish.

Was bred for Halter and Western Pleasure. By Megafleet(apha) out of I Do Believe In Music(aqha). Has 35 points in Halter and 15 in Showmanship through APHA. Is a good western pleasure mount with correct headset and movement and has ROM's to prove it.

Extends nicely at the trot and canter with a nice english headset. Cute, correct jump. Point and shoot with no spook to anything. Does require some consistent work because she is out of shape but is very willing and super easy to ride. Responds perfectly to whatever you ask of her.

I am thinking of buying her for an all around mount with an emphasis on western. She was priced at 8,500 but the guy dropped it to 7,000 for me after some talking. She seems just right for me since I just want a "tune up" project. The video below is of her and I at a show on sunday. We did gymkhana at the show just for fun. I have no intention of having her do this competitively I just did this to see how she was out of her element. What do you all think of her?

  • Let's see if you really know horses?

I've been showing western for a number of years and recently moved. At a local barn I found a class sheet for one of the local shows around and this is what it said when it had the break down of divisions on the back

    Advanced Youth Division

Open to riders 17 and under as of the current show year. Horse/Rider combo cannot cross into Beginner Division. Judged on hands, seat, guidance and suitability of mount. Proper western apparel is required in all classes. Helmets are recommended!

    14. Horsemanship W/J/L Pattern (Pattern 70%, Rail 30%) (!)

    15. Pleasure W/J/L

    16. Break and Out

    17. Trail W/J/L

I know all of the classes except 16. Break and Out.... what is that? I thought maybe since they didn't have a Walk, Jog class that might be it? I have no idea so I'm hoping one of you can help me out... thanks :)
