  • Is this an "IF" Excel statement or something impossible to do with the information I've been given?

I just started a temp job and I just got a poject the supply manager has asked me to work on:

There is a report I will get from an internal tool.

The columns are predetermined in this tool so when it’s downloaded into Excel, they are as follows (for simplicity sake):

    Column 1 = a stock number

    Column 2 = dress color

    Column 3 = cost

They've asked me to make it so that when this report is pulled and downloaded into Excel, I can pull it over to another Excel document to make it automatically populate 2 more columns:

    Column 4 = dress size

    Column 5 is designer name

Remember: The internal tool doesn't know or have this information.

This info will be sitting on a separate spreadsheet somewhere else.

This report needs to be able to be pulled anytime (daily, weekly, monthly) and multiple executives will be using this data.

They seem to think that I can possibly do some sort of "if" statement with the stock number to link them up and populate the columns 4 and 5:

IF stock number is 1234 then C2 size 16 and D2 is Ralph Lauren

But there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, stock numbers, 30 different dress sizes but only 2 designers.

Is this even possible to do?

I suggested they just build these columns into the internal tool so it’s populated before the report is downloaded into Excel and they said it would take forever to get the IT department to do this with the red tape and other projects they are working on and they need it done right away.

  • Is a community college GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 worth putting on my resume?

I have a 4 year "gap" on my resume where I worked several temporary retail and reception jobs and took full-time and part-time semesters at a community college (I'm 38 years old). In that time I received a certification (graphic design) and studied several other subjects but I haven't received my Associates yet (I have two more classes left and I'm not currently not enrolled in either of them right now).

Since 4 years is a HUGE gap but I can't list all the jobs I had (it will look like I'm a job-hopper which I'm not), I have to list that I was a student.

Is 3.3 out of 4.0 good enough to put on my resume or should I just leave that part off?

  • Recipe for Brie Cheese & Bailey's Irish Cream?

My boss from 8 years ago threw a Christmas party and his wife served Brie cheese with Bailey's Irish Creme over the cheese. It was fabulous. Now I can't find the recipe or my former employer's wife. I've done searches on Yahoo, Google, Allrecipes.com...I only found Brie with Amaretto. I thought I could substitute the Bailey's for the Amaretto but then there are other things in the Amaretto recipe like cinnamon and nutmeg that I don't think would sound good with the Bailey's.

Has anyone seen a recipe for Brie Cheese & Bailey's Irish Cream?

    Thanks!

  • How do you explain you can't start a job for 60 days?

I just got laid off with my last day being January 30, 2009. I was given a substantial bonus to stay on until that last day and I plan on doing so but I think it would be wise to start looking for a new job now.

How do I explain to potential new employers that I cannot start immediately? I want to make sure I put it in the cover letter so that they do not set up an interview without knowing this information.

    Any ideas?

Do you think it's too early to even start looking right now and maybe I should wait until January 1?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

  • How do you create a formula that will add 1 to a total?

I have an Excel spreadsheet I'm using for my sister's baby shower. I want to write a formula so that when I mark "Y" (when someone says they're coming) it will add one to the sum at the bottom of the column.

I have no idea how to begin to write this type of formula. Can anyone help?

    Thanks

  • What should I bring to eat when I go to Ravinia Festival?

My husband and I are going to the Aimee Mann show at Ravinia at the end of August.

I've only been there one time and when I went, I didn't know I could bring food (but my friends brought a ton). This time I really want to bring some great stuff to eat.

We love all sorts of food so the sky is the limit. Got any ideas?

    We're driving if that helps.

  • How do I change the Excel Icon on a hyperlinked PowerPoint slide?

I am working on a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and there is a graph that is too big for the slide so my co-worker used the hyperlink option so that when you click on it, the workbook opens in "pop-up" window. In the original slide, the hyperlink to click on is displayed as the standard green Microsoft "x". I want to change it to the company's logo.

Does anyone know how to do this? I've tried going into Edit -> Worksheet Object ->Convert but I don't think this is what I want to do. I chose the option "change icon" but then it just looks for other icons and I want to use a picture (jpg or png).

  • Do you think it is irresponsible to vote for a 3rd party candidate?

Since it is highly likely that that either a Republican or a Democrat will get into the White House in November, do you think it's irresponsible to use your vote on a 3rd party candidate?

  • Has anyone ever stayed at the Milwaukee Athletic Club?

My boss's boss wants to have a meeting in Milwaukee in less than a week and there is a convention in town. The only place I could find was the Milwaukee Athletic Club on a suggestion from someone who lives near there, however, there are two reviews online for the MAC - one good and one bad and now I'm very nervous. The rooms don't have to be 5 star but they can't be HOJOs either....Anyone have any experience staying there?

  • What theaters or theatrical productions would you suggest I see while in New Orleans?

I'm from Chicago but I'll be in New Orleans from 3/25-3/31 (getting married) and I'm interested in the theater scene. I'm not so much interested in musicals or dancing type shows as I am looking for plays or other contemporary shows. Any suggestions?

  • Can you tell me of some nice, mid-priced restaurants in New Orleans?

I live in the Chicagoland area but we're getting married in a VERY informal ceremony in New Orleans in Jackson Square. We are going to host a dinner for all of those who come to the ceremony (under 10 people including us). Can you point me in the direction of some restaurants to have this post-ceremony dinner in the French Quarter? The ceremony will be in the late afternoon and our plan is to go straight to dinner around 4 or 5 PM.

    Thanks

  • Was Blue Island Pucker discontinued?

I used Blue Island Pucker for my specialty martinis and I haven't been able to find it anywhere in the store. Someone told me it's possible they discontinued it. Is this true?

If it is true, does anyone know of a good alternative that tastes just like it that's blue?

  • Anyone an Excel formula wizard? I keep getting #VALUE.?

I have how much we paid him in one cell (A2)and the rate of pay in another cell (A3) - (we paid him $34.44 and the rate of pay is .485). I know the formula is =34.44/0.485 (which I put in A4) but when I hit ENTER, A4 gives me a #VALUE like error message. What am I doing wrong?

  • Can I uninvite everyone to my elopement wedding?

This is my fiance and mine 2nd wedding. We're 36 years old & wanted to do this wedding "for us" instead of like the first time when we had to do things to please our parents, friends & family. We decided to invite close friends & family (appx 20 people) to our "elopement" cermony in Las Vegas in Feb 2008. We sent out a very informal email to 20 people stating that we would like them & their significant other to come.

Now that it looks like only my fiance's parents and 3 people we never thought would come are showing up. We also realize we're going to have to feed these folks too (more money spent). My parents found they probably can't come & my sister & brother have not mentioned anything about it at all (we sent the invite out 2 weeks ago).

Now I feel stupid that we decided to invite people but it's too late (and rude) to say "forget it". Do I just need to shut up & just follow through w/the original plan (having guests)? I don't know how I'm going to "uninvite" my in-laws!

  • How can I stop feeding a homeless guy?

I just started a job in downtown Chicago 3 wks ago. I see this homeless guy 2 or 3X /day right near my office building. I've tried taking different routes but he also changes his begging spot & I still run into him at least 1X /day. He said he's trying to get a bus ticket home to Virginia but my co-workers and friends said that's probably bs (he suggested I could "help him out" by scraping up $70 for the ticket).

Last week I went to the dollar store & bought him a few groceries. Today, I walked out of my building at lunch and BOOM - there he was right in front of my building (he didn't know I worked there - of course, now he does). I ended up buying him food at Panda Express & bringing it back for him.

He's never asked me for anything (not even really the ticket money) and he's always polite but I realize this is my problem and I'm doing it because I feel guilty but I cannot keep feeding this guy.

What should I do? Just walk by him from now on? Find a different route?

  • Does anyone know of a wedding officiant for a non-religious, civil ceremony in Chicago?

I'm looking for an officiant to do a civil wedding ceremony in the Chicagoland area, possibly in March. Does anyone know of a good person to contact? Maybe a judge?

Please don't tell me to look in the yellow pages or Google. I've been doing that. I'm asking here at Yahoo!Answers so that someone who actually knows someone that used an officant can give me some specific information.

  • What is the best (and cleanest) Chinese buffet in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago?

My parents love Chinese buffets and today is their 39th wedding anniversary. They really want to go out to eat tonight and I was wondering if anyone knew of any clean places with a lot of quality and diverse items?

  • How can I get rid of the musty (mildew?) smell coming from the cold air returns from the basement crawlspace?

I just moved into a house that smells musty the second you walk in, all through summer and winter. It has permeated my clothes and other fabric items in the house. I have tried Fabreeze and air fresheners but nothing works. I've had a few people tell me it's the dirt in the moisture in the crawlspace coming up through the vents and that aside from masking the smell with charcoal near the vents, I will have to call a crawlspace company to "seal" the dirt. It's going to cost about $5K - $6K.

A contractor friend told me that it should be fixed because there's probably mold spores down there too (I haven't looked yet but I wouldn't know a mold spore if I saw one). He said a quick fix would be to throw some lime down there on the dirt but I should get it sealed in the long run.

Are there any other cheaper alternatives than spending 6K on someone to seal the dirt crawlspace?

  • Chicago: Does anyone know of a good nail salon?

I bite my nails and they look horrible. I'm trying to stop but I'm going to a very formal wedding tomorrow so I want to have nice, manicured, "action-length" nails.

Does anyone know of a reputable nail salon in the Northwest Chicago area?

If I have to find one on my own, what should I be aware of when looking around for one?

Since I don't have hardly any nails, should I ask for acrylic? Or is there another kind?

Any help on this would be great. Thanks.
