hi, i'm planning on buying an slr to fit my photography needs, basically going from using point & shoot to a canon slr. i want to learn manual, so if someone can explain or link me to a site on how to compare the following in terms of adjusting them, i'd be really grateful :)

aperture (what happens to the image if it's low or high or stuff like that)?

focal length?

my camera's gonna have an 18-55 mm lens with it so what does that mean really?

the f-number?

I am in love with G11's features and I have the money for it. but when I saw it on the store, I kinda got held back because it didn't have the body built of an SLR, like for example, Canon's SX20 IS. :( Now I'm indecisive. Can you suggest a Canon camera that has the body of an SLR but the features as good as G11's?

I like these G11 features, btw:

1. Low light performance is good

2. Quick shots

3. Sports shots/special scene

I've been wanting so bad to pick up Don Quixote because it makes me curious. We had to read only a very small passage in high school and I thought it was nice, but what about your opinion on the story entirely, the whole book?

I read Joyce Carol Oates, young adult, and some general fiction like Tracy Chevalier, Sue Monk Kidd, and Bernhard Schlink, and I've recently dropped reading chic-lits.

I know you'd say that why not just give it a try and go for the book, right? But I don't want to go all the way to buying it and be disappointed as I've been with Ian McEwan's "On Chesil Beach" and others. So, do you think "Don Quixote" would fit my likings? Thanks!

I sketch people and this one kid came up to me to draw him.
