  • How to transfer all emails to new acct?

I quit AT&T, who owns sbcglobal.net, and switched my DSL svc. & email to Earthlink. AT&T owns sbcglobal url, so I can't keep it, though it is still online. Can you please tell me how to transfer all my emails, folders, contacts & favorites in one bulk step to my ID email address at Earthlink.net? All some foreign tech could tell me was how to transfer them one at a time, which I told him not to bother with. I will change my phone to a basic Vonage after my email is transferred, and once I get my computer fixed, I plan to hook up a Magic Jack for the unlimited calls. I can't afford the high costs anymore. Also, is there a bulk way to notify my address book of my new address?.

  • Do I have to call phone co. to fix unusable phone switch?

I bought a foreclosed home, and painters messed up the phone switch. I bought new connection & took it apart, but there is wiring to be transferred. I'm a senior lady with no experience in wiring. Do I have to hire someone or call the phone co. (that charges $50 for a home call) to fix it?

  • If I have a landline phone for Dish, can I add another landline for Magic Jack?

I have Dish Network for TV along with a landline phone with DSL for computer. If I want to use Magic Jack on my computer, can I add another landline for that phone number? Will I have to get rid of DSL or high-speed internet svc. to use Magic Jack connection on the computer, even though it would be on a separate line? I want to reduce my phone svc to the basic except for DSL if I can.

  • Can you advise me on helping a man on Death Row for 30 years W/O any public defenders filing appeals?

Though not a legal pro, I am trying to help this man whose trial was a farce 30 yrs ago. He was convicted of murder during a robbery in Las Vegas on the basis of a hand print on the exterior of the victim's car. He has lost an eye caused by a prisoner's attack, and three public defenders have ignored him and never filed any appeals. He authorized his latest attorney to give me copies of all records in writing, but the PD is ignoring him and me. I know the District Court Judge who assigned the PD after finding that two other PDs had never followed up with his appeals or defense. Is contacting him and asking for help the correct procedure to move forward, or can some legal expert tell me what else I should do.

Is it possible to have this conviction overturned because of legal misbehavior, or is it possible to have his sentence commuted to time served some way. I cannot get the "Innocence Project" involved until all his Appeals have been filed.

  • I need to find law school or journalism student groups who help death-row inmates by investigating cases.?

I recently discovered a man in Ely, NV's maximum security prison. He has been on death row for 28 years. He has consistently claimed his innocence in this robbery/murder.

According to his trial transcript, his public defenders asked to be recused because several members of their firm were close friends with the victim, but the judge denied them. The trial was a farce.

I know that groups have fought to save men like him through investigating & knowing the right contacts. I need to learn who they are & how to contact them. Can anyone help me? I am a former investigative reporter for a magazine, & this case is very fishy. No witnesses, and the only evidence was a partial fingerprint on exterior of the victim's car.

This a a VietNam vet who earned an AA degree before his conviction, a ParaLegal certificate in prison, and has been a model prisoner. Early in his imprisonment he was attacked by other prisoners and lost an eye.

  • When using my laptop as desk computer with power plugged in, should I take out the battery?

I have a new Vostro 1400 laptop with 2 batteries for backup when traveling, but I use it for my home computer too. I've been keeping a battery in it, but also using the charger plug-in. Is this bad for the battery? Should I take out the battery when I use house power or take out the charger plug-in until the Dell warns me that the battery is low?

  • Does anyone have any experience dealing with American Acceptance, LLC? They buy credit card debts to collect.

I am suspicious because the woman who called lied about sending letters to an old address and I wonder if most of what she said was a lie.

I am a 72-yr-old woman, living on Soc. Sec. & a $270 pension. I had to move from CA to No. NV to live on that, away from family & friends. I fell behind because I couldn't work after I

I had a stroke, but I tried to pay my debts through a consolidation co. However, it didn't leave anything for emergencies, and I had to stop. This company said a $3,600 debt had grown to $44,000 in the 12 yrs since I paid anything, and it was in the hands of a lawyer who was going to attach my pension. They wanted $2,200 immediately to settle it. I paid $200 that week from Mother's Day and birthday gifts, but would have to borrow $2,000 for the rest by 6/6. My questions: Since I didn't receive any letters or calls, can a lawyer attach my pension? Is a debt this old even collectible? Is a pension attachable with my financial circumstances? Hope you can help.

  • Do you have to delete Windows 98 before replacing with XP?

I have had so many problems with my 5 yr-old custom-made computer, and followed all the advice possible from Yahoo Answers, that I decided to replace Windows 98 with a new XP pgm. I now have the XP discs, have downloaded the pgms and files I want to save, and will soon archive necessary email files to my hard-drive and copy them.

A computer repair friend said I have the memory to download XP without deleting Windows 98 first, but after trying four times and being stopped part-way through, I think I need more advice. I only have one phone line, so I couldn't keep her on the phone while working on it, as the computer had to be online to Microsoft. That is one reason I'm upgrading, so I can sign up with AT&T for a high-speed connection that gives two lines but needs at least Windows 2000.

I'm not a techie, so I worry about ruining the computer when I can't afford another one. Can any of you computer gurus give me advice?

  • My computer still is giving me problems.?

I had several good answers recently and tried some of them. I had already used Spyware and Adaware and tried to scan my hard drives and defrag. I am stopped from scanning C because it says something in Windows is running, and it won't defrag either. I downloaded Avast, and that worked great in that it found 2 Trojan Horses and 2 Worms. But I still can't download ErrorDoctor or upgrade Internet Explorer, and now every few minutes a Window box pops up saying the program has performed illegally. It has HPOSM in the top left corner of the box, but when I click OK on it, it doesn't shut me down like the usual illegal message box does. What is causing that, and why can't I download anything else, as the computer is still very, very slow. I also have a web page, and was told by my server that I should be using Internet Explorer 6. Since I haven't upgraded since 2003, I'm sure I don't have it. HELP!!

  • My custom built computer is 5 years old, and giving me a lot of problems lately. Could a computer guru help?

I need to know if it would help to reinstall Windows to correct the problems: 1, Everything is very slow, but I can't scan the hard discs or defragment. Also, I can't copy and paste into a Word document. 2. Another problem is when I try to watch a web site video, it only runs for a few seconds, then stops until it downloads another few seconds. 3. The computer keeps freezing and I have to soft-boot.

If reinstalling Windows will help, will I lose my files and documents already saved into folders. Will I lose software downloads that I bought?

If not, and I do reinstall Windows 98, which I have now, should I do the download first and then delete the old one, or vice versa?

If I download Windows 2000 instead, will all my documents, etc., work all right?

I hope someone can help, as I'm sure that if I can use the computer maintenance programs, I could speed it up.

Also, my computer repairman doesn't like Norton and said to take it off. Does anyone have an alternative?

  • Snopes.com?

I received the following email. Is the information true?

    Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money from the participants would be put into the Independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

The Democratic party is responsible for going back on his word in all these respects--yet say the Republicans are responsible for the Soc. Sec. mess.

  • I need to add memory to my Photoshop 7.0 as it keeps freezing when I'm editing. How do I do it?

I am working with Windows 98 and Adobe Tech Support doesn't help with that program anymore. I asked about the freezing problem before, and one of the answers said to upgrade my Photoshop 7.0 memory, but didn't say how. I solved part of the problem by deleting a lot of photos, but every time I go to Image to check or change the image size, the program still freezes. Can anyone give me the process to do this?

  • My Photoshop 7.0 program keeps freezing when I try to edit. Why?

I have been running PS 7.0 on Windows 98 without a problem for years. But all of a sudden it started freezing when I tried to edit a photo that I had scanned in from my HP All-in-One. It will save the photo in my Picture folder, but after the first edit it freezes and all the menus go blank, so I have to exit.

Adobe Tech Support no longer helps with Windows 98, so I hope I can get an independent techie to help. I can reinstall Photoshop 7.0, but is that the solution? Also, does that mean I lose all the photos that are in the Photoshop folder? Is my computer the problem? I've run all the virus and scandisk programs, and also defragmented the C and D hard drives. Can anyone help?

  • What is usual procedure when you have filed suit against a large Pharmaceutical corp.?

Five and one/half years ago I had several TIAs (mini-strokes) after taking Vioxx for a year. After several months I was almost back to normal (except for occasional loss of balance), with the help of several more medications. However, though I was super active before, I can't work at a regular job anymore. I finally found a law firm that recently (two months ago) filed suit for me just before the time limitation was passed. Several others evidently only wanted permanent victims or fatalities. How long should I have to wait to hear from the law firm as to what the next steps are, such as depositions, etc.? Has enough time passed for me to contact them for information without seeming to be a pest?

  • I need opinions about Affiliate Marketing prospects.?

I have started working with a few programs that offer Affiliate Marketing training, and was inundated with so much information that I was overwhelmed and haven't started any blog or web site yet. I'm not sure which programs I should stay with and which I should cancel because they don't seem too helpful.

Do any of you professionals have advice for me as to the process and priorities, as well as which programs are the best?

I have a web site that I want to promote under children's safety: http://www.keep-safelockbox.com,/ and thought I would add links and maybe a page for articles on keeping children safe. However, I also want to have a blog or web site for retirees with several pages on different subjects that can promote other affiliates. Which is better--a blog or web site for that purpose?

    Thanks for any help.
