Does the original company, let's say Target, pay the new investor? Or do you pay the new investor the interest payments?

I understand you get money if the stock price increases, but you also get money if stockholder equity increases, right?

What I'm seeing on the local news seems to indicate it would be the republican-controlled house's fault if there's a government shutdown. But shouldn't blame fall on both shoulders if they can't create a plan?

My fiance and I are joint on each others' accounts. We have a household account, two accounts for our own "entertainment," and a savings account in only our name for retirement/investment.

The question is what would you say is "entertainment," and what would you say is "household?"

Where would you go? Keep in mind this is travel for 2 and includes food, hotel (or could be a cruise). We'll either be leaving from San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Looking at an ordinary income statement, is there a way for me to cull what expenses are variable and fixed just by looking at the quarterly information? I'm trying to do a cost-volume-profit-analysis based on net income and total revenue and all the other information listed in the company's financials.

I heard on Bloomberg TV today banks are willing to lend but we just don't want to borrow. Is there a website that tells me this info? Is there a "market index" I could look at that measures this? What implication does this have for the greater economy?

I've read that if you haven't had a meaningful conversation with someone within the last year, you shouldn't invite them. Do you think this also applies to Facebook? A lot of contact I have with people is over FB.

Let's say Warren Buffet owns 20% of Coca Cola. How would you find that out? Does Coca Cola disclose that? Does Buffet disclose that to Berkshire Hathaway investors? I'm trying to find out who owns certain companies, and want to know where to look for that information.

I know Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and others are them but I just want to know what purpose they serve. I know during the financial crisis they invested heavily in real estate debt securities, then couldn't collect on those assets. On top of that, they financed those assets with short-term debt. Then, investors pulled money and short sales on these companies caused a liquidity crunch. All this is besides the point, I want to know what investment banks are.
