  • Amber light bar and construction use. UK.?

    Hello,

There seems to be a few opinions on the use and legality of a roof mounted amber light bar like ones seen on breakdown assistance and recovery vehicles.

Some say that they are legal as it is basically an extra hazard light, others say they are only legal on some vehicles.

    My questions are:

Would a vehicle used by construction works be legally allowed to have a magnetic mount light in the vehicle for use when on sites or when loading or unloading in some locations on the public roads, as well as for use when broken down as an extra warning to other drivers?

    Thanks

  • UK, Pickup truck insurance 19 year old male.?

    Hello.

I am a 19 year old male from the UK.

I am an apprentice electrician and use my car for work (i do have business insurance). I carry my tools and some materials at times. Space can be an issue at times so am looking for something more practical.

Do not really want a van.

I would like a pickup truck that has 4 or 5 seats. (2 or 3 seats will be minimum).

I like pickup trucks and securing the load on the back is not an issue as can get covers or truck boxes or whatever.

Have looked at a number of trucks and all have same issue.

    Can consider any truck.

Issue is not the cost of the truck (will have to be second hand or reasonable price though) but the issue is the insurance.

Been 19 and in the second year of driving with no NCD (did not get car till end of 1st year) insurance is high. Even quotes with a years NCD (if where to wait) are not showing much difference.

I understand that the insurance will not be that cheap for a truck esp at my age.

But quotes so far are in area of 6 grand just for personal use and i need business.

    That price is ridiculous.

Do not even mind having a "black box" installed (have one in current car).

Can any one suggest a truck that may be reasonable on insurance for a 19 year old in the UK?

    Thanks

  • Car DVR UK Leagal. Please advise.?

    Hello,

I am looking at getting a simple car DVR (Dash Cam).

I am looking at one that is very small and could be places on the windscreen behind the mirror so no in view or obstructing view. Also looking at ones that are built in to replacement mirrors.

Some also have second camera that sit at the back of the car for a rear view. But these seem to have screens and also seem to be more for mounting lower on the dash.

The laws are not clear as to what is legal are what is not and there are some conflicting views.

Please advise on weather the items listed above are legal and what is if theses are not in the UK.

I will link to some that I am looking at.

    Thanks.

  • Tools for electrical trade, UK.?

    Hi,

I am an electrical apprentice in the UK have all the basic tools and SDS drill and cordless drill's (screwing, wood drilling, ect).

I am just looking at some of the tools available and am wondering if some of the things I have found would make the job easier/quicker.

I am talking about the M12 Hackzall from Milwaukee as well as the Milwaukee cordless palm nailer or a cordless auto hammer.

The Hackzall for cutting trunking and plasterboard (Drywall) and the nailer for capping.

    What do you think?

    Thanks.

There are proposed changes to licencing for new drivers which if you do not know about then you can find details on google or message me.

Do you think these changes will happen?

    also

I am 18 and have had licence for 8 months. Will the changes effect me and other current young/new fully licensed drivers or just the people who start learning and doing tests after the law change?

  • Teen Car Insurance for 18 year old male?

What is the best way about going to insure a car cheap for an 18 year old male. What is the cheapest car to insure? Is it better to be a named driver on parents policy or own car because I do't want to pay more than 2000.

  • 18 Year old car insurance.?

    Hello,

I am looking at car insurance and the cheapest I can find is between £2,800 and £2,999 based on a corsa and the price changes depending on the year I put. I do not want a fancy car just something safe, secure and that I can drive.

That quote only changes by about 50-100 by adding my mom and it goes up not down by doing so.

This quote is tracker based with insure the box.

Please can you advise on cars that may be cheaper or ways to cut the cost.

I have had a licence 4 months but will be 5 in the new year so i am basing it on that.

When just trying quotes based on 6 month licence (coming up soon) and with a 1 year no claims (can do with no claims accelerated insurance but not may companies and they say they not quote me) and the price was £1,8500.

    Thanks

  • Car insurance and business... HELP...?

    Hi,

I am 17 and am taking my test next week.

I am also soon starting an apprenticeship (electrical).

At this time I am not sure about transport (if I have to go to company and travel as van passenger or even driver) or if I have to make my own way to jobs. Whichever way a licence will help a lot.

If I am just driving to work 4 days a week and college 1 then can I use "Social, Domestic and pleasure + commuting to a single place of work or study "?

and if I have to drive between jobs then I know I can not use this insurance (correct?) but when looking at business car insurance quotes they seem to be based on me owning the company (which I do not) so what insurance do I need and is there any responsibility on my employers to pay some or all of the insurance if I am driving between jobs?

    Please can you help...

    Thanks in advance.

  • 17 UK Good insurance car... Please Help...?

    Hello,

I am 17 and live in the UK.

I am learning to drive and hope to pass my test soon.

I am looking to get a car when I pass my test.

I do like larger cars like SUV's and pickups and compact crossovers but that is not to say that I do not like smaller cars.

The problem is the fact that insurance cost a hell of a lot, ridiculous costs.

There are many cars that I like but I would like a car that does not look to bad and that has good insurance for teens.

I understand that SUV's/trucks will have higher MPG and higher insurance.

So far my lowest and best insurance price is for a corsa from youngmarmalade (4.5k insurance but only pay 1.5k as I get cash back on car to put to insurance).

Please can you help me with advise on cars pref suv/trucks that would be good for me and good on insurance.

    Thanks

  • Pickup a good 1st car for teen?

    Hello,

I am 17 and in the UK and I am now learning to drive with the view of getting a car or truck when I pass my test.

I am looking for a car/truck that will be cheap to insure/buy and that does not look that bad and will be practical for a teen 1st car. Gas mileage is an issue so I want something with reasonable MPG and I understand that a truck will have a lower MPG than a car but I can live with that as long as the trucks MPG is reasonable for a truck of that type.

Some people have said on forums that I have looked at where others have posted about car/trucks that a single cab pickup would be a good idea as there can not be that many passengers and it is not that sporty and I think that in terms of practicality a pickup has plenty of space. Please can you advise on weather a pickup would be good on insurance and if you think a pickup is a good idea.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Laptop shuts down at random times.?

I have a Sony vaio vgn-ns20e laptop purchased about 1-2 years ago , it is currently running windows 7 ultimate sp1 , i was using visual basic 2010 express and watching a tutorial on youtube at the time , it randomly shutdown yesterday about 6:00 and then this morning at about 7:00 , when it goes off , it doesn't say shutting down or the usual shutdown screen it just completely goes off and you hear the hard-drive stop (spin down) and all power lights go off , if i try to press the power button it doesn't do anything until about 10 seconds after , it has only done this twice in the time i have had it , but yesterday i accidently split a small amount of water on the top bezel / panel where the honeycomb grid is and where the speakers and power / mute buttons are l; located,

this was wiped off imideatly and i took apart the laptop and dried everything out and got rid of all dust with a vacume , especially in the fan, it was fine after this and was used until about 10:00 last night , it has been shutdown until about 6:00 this morning , i dont think it is a software issue or water damage as a slight (small slight small) amount of water entered and was all cleared up , it is like asif the laptop is shorting out or an electrical problem that s causing it to be forced shutdown , please help as it is frustrating that when it surges , i loose my work i have been doing in visual basic and i loose the youtube page,

    thank you very much ,

for more info please email me on 899076@gmail.com
