  • Hypothyroid Suggestions? Synthroid? Iodine?

I was recently diagnosed with a hypothyroid. I was prescribed a synthroid medication and have been taking it for a month. I'm young (29), exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet (vegetarian). The symptoms I experienced due to the hypothyroid were afternoon fatigue, irritability and mild depression. Since taking the pill, I feel I see glimpses (if any) changes but I don't like the idea of taking a pill for the rest of my life. I believe by changing my eating habits and/or natural approaches it has the potential curb this hormone imbalance. Therefore I've been taking a drop of iodine and a selenium vitamin each morning (I read they should be taken together, as they need to bind). I also eat one Brazil nut each day as it's rich in selenium. My hope is that the Iodine, Selenium and Brazil Nut will increase my T3 Level (as the synthroid only affects T4). I've also experienced headaches. I am not sure if this is due to the synthroid or the iodine.

Here's my question(s): Has anyone had any success with a healthy diet in changing their hypothyroid levels? Has anyone had any experience with Iodine drops and/or improvement in their thyroid production? Does anyone have any suggestions to help me navigate through this new world of "hypothyroidism". I have an appointment with my endocrinologist at the end of July, but there are two months in between. I'd like to make positive changes before then. ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
