  • Tips for surviving a 70 hour work week?

I work 70 hours a week at two jobs (and quitting either is not currently an option). At one, there are breaks as business permits, and the other hardly ever gives breaks. I'm on my feet anywhere from 10-16 hours a day, and the schedule is just messed up enough that I can't sleep regularly. Most of the time, I'm beyond the help of coffee, and I need some tips to make this schedule manageable so I can stick to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Asus laptop won't recognize Android phone connected via USB?

I have a Galaxy S3 that runs on KitKat. I've tried plugging it into both usb ports, and I get the same result from both. Nothing happens. It will charge, but it won't show up on the computer or even register connected as a camera/media transfer device on the phone. I've tried reinstalling the Samsung drivers as well as Kies, and neither one worked. The only time I can possibly get it to work is when I buy a brand new cable (even though the ones that aren't connecting still charge normally. And even if that works, it's only a short-term solution. I really don't want to buy a new laptop if the solution is as simple as replacing the phone's charger ports or the computer's USB ports or something. Thanks for the help!

  • Getting too serious too quickly?

I'm with a guy who's 4 years older than me (I'm 17, so that's not a huge deal to me.) in a LDR, and we've been dating about a month. He's a great guy and I really like him, but he's already planning our future together, and a few days ago he sent me this text:

"well now you always have me, no matter what. Because I need you, I have to have you. You have become my real addiction, and I can't tell you how badly I need this drug."

Does it seem like he's getting serious too fast?

  • Are you afraid of falling? C/c please?

I told you one more ghostly tale

and gave you one last chance to run

    forsake that long night's bleakness,

and reach for the light of the sun

I closed my eyes to shadows black

and woke to find you still there

but force of habit made me fight

when you told me that you care

I try to keep from turning back

as you take my hand and lead

the darkness yields to gentle light

But there's fear in being freed

Is the light just another cage,

but one of my own design?

fear and joy duel as I try to believe

when you tell me things will be fine

Doubts whisper as the darkness fades

and now it's my time to choose,

Do I take comfort in my solitude,

Or the one I don't want to lose?

  • "Blinded" c/c please?

    The rainbows have all vanished,

    leaving one more violent storm

The bruises have begun to bloom

as you say this is the norm

    Cuddling, cursing, sweet little threats

Griping when you whine and dine

    Fighting for shreds of vanity

When you say things are fine

You call this twisted, warped thing love

Can't you see that it's not right?

Or are you just so drowned in darkness

That it's painful to see light?

A little girl you claim to love

    Who's screaming "Mommy, no!"

as shadows battle on the wall

How far will you let this go?

  • "passing the bucks" c/c please?

    Problem children in every space

    Their issues constant, invasive,

    Spoiling the once sweet taste

    Of the perfect pretend life.

Bury them in bribes and gifts

So they don't care to speak

Or choke them with a slew of pills,

For the quick solution that you seek

Caring has gone out of style

    Parenting's become a bore

Why look for truth behind the smile?

    That's what therapists are for!

  • "Happily Never After" c/c a collab with firecat please?

    Happily Never After

    It takes a special kind of girl to be a villainess;

To try to turn a ‘once upon a time’ into a mess.

She has to have an ominous aura wrought with doom,

And wear a sense of ‘sinister’ when entering a room.

Of course, she must master all of the arts,

Sorcery, trickery, and blackmail, for starts

She'll dress perfectly, in such ghoulish style,

Red painted lips and a sinister smile

    Her familiars come in many guises;

Crows’ raucous laughter sounds as she rises,

Black cats circle her ankles and arch

Their backs, hissing at do-gooder monarchs.

At her approach, frail princesses hide,

Though they are few, her words are snide

Potions and blades, her favorite of toys

A cunningly spun web she employs

Her foes are seen as heroes when they try

To nobly stab the shining sword into her evil eye.

With a flourish and a warning that one day she’ll be back

She deftly vanishes with her dignity intact.

No foolish courage, she chooses flight,

A rest to commune with the shadowy night

So relax, rest easily on your gilded lies

But you will never escape her dark, watchful eyes

  • "Love @ 1st site" c/c please?

    Do you believe

    In love at first site?

    Contrived character's

    Words they write

    Somewhere out there

Is a site just for you!

    Black people, God's match,

    And cheaters date too!

    Then, the old standby,

    A guy's Facebook 'wife'

    An Internet embrace

  • C/C "The Crows Know" please?

    "The Crows Know"

When monuments fall into the sea,

    When bright skies dim expectantly,

It's time to leave this ravaged plane

As the Earth's season starts to wane

We are not simple terrestrial insects,

    Stranded survivors from celestial defects

In our veins flows the light of stars

We, the orphans with self-inflicted scars

But our exile is finally through,

They've come back, their word was true

Crows in flight search the skies

    feathered friends, watching eyes

Perhaps they see more than we do

While we doubted, they always knew

    Searching, ceaselessly they'd roam,

They knew that we'd be going home

  • Not your typical Mother's Day poem, c/c please?

    Mother's day has come again,

Has it only been a year?

A mere twelve months turned eon

By the rages, hatred and fear

A gift , they say, comes from the heart,

It should reflect my time and care

I know exactly what you want

    But I refuse to despair

I give you freedom from your curse

and I pray it won't be in vain

My last gift, one scribbled note

    and a growing heart-shaped stain

  • C/c & title a new poem please?

This started out as prose, so it might have made a rough transition. Any feedback is welcome

    Trapped, in night's eternal realm

    Where dreams and nightmares twist,

    merging, colliding, dueling around him

    He sleeps, slipping into slumber,

    as the battle rages on

He, who once had a name,

    He, who knows only fear

    The only thing that exists

    In this timeless realm

    Consumes his identity

    He thrashes on the bed,

    A desperate, futile freedom bid

A vain attempt to throw the beast,

    The lion, killer and king

In this bleak palace of night

    His hands, clawed in agony,

    scratch the scarred bedpost

    His mind shrinks from life,

    in the corner of consciousness,

    Embracing blackness to escape

The moon watches with a knowing smirk

She has seen much worse than this

The hungry dark will not claim this one

The witness, mute as time moves again

12:01 in a land of endless night

    One in a million,

    Too common for you,

    An amazing woman

    Who's sweet, kind, and true

    You can't fall asleep

From all the demons filling the night

But still you talk to me

    To make sure I'm alright

You fill my life with memories

You fill my day with joy

    You make me laugh

You're a great friend and more

    So here are our thoughts

    a gift from your friends

    Two of the many who're

    blessed to know Firecat

  • C/c & title suggestions on a new poem please?

    This place is a prison,

    Inmates clawing at the walls,

    Half-crazed, haunted

Desperate to escape Clawed hands scratching,

    Gouging the plaster,

    Tearing bloody furrows

In space once pristine Our only safe haven tainted,

    Flooded in harsh reality

    Stained, scraped and scarred

By who we want to be Screams that shatter windows

Yet no one seems to care

As the last shreds of sanity

Are borne away on night air

  • Opinions/suggestions on a new poem please?

    Closed Doors

    The front door opens

    Stumbling footsteps come in

    High-pitched giggling laughter

    Drifts through these dirty halls

he smells her before he sees

    Her clothes, hair, skin, awash

    Scent clings like second skin

    Sharp and bitter, disgusting;

    Alcoholic's perfume

It makes him want to gag

    When she pulls him close

    Love wars with reason

    Those moments so rare

    He hopes they'll never end,

That she'll never let him go

    So he endures entanglement

Hides his face in her filthy locks

Looks away so she won't see disgust

Written so plainly on his features

    Her hand grips his arm

    Too late, she's seen

    Laughter turns to fury,

    Eyes blaze through haze

    One slap, then another

    Screaming, angry words

    That he knows he deserves

    Because he's not good enough

    Suddenly rage evaporates

    Leaving dizziness in its wake

He tries to find his breath

And put his heart back in place

    A thunderous tread shakes floorboards

The giggling stranger has come back

She stands up, teeters, goes to Him

He catches her as she stumbles

    Together, they walk away

    Mommy and grandpa disappear

    Like always, closing the door

    The vengeful angel leaves,

    He, the human demon,

    Left staring after her,

    Patient, inmate, child, mother

    The one he only knows

  • C/c a collab with a friend please?

    Ignored:

    Don't talk to me

    Like I'm never there

    Don't ever listen

    Like you don't even care

    Pick your favorites

    And throw away the rest

    Let them play

    All their little games

Won't let them ruin my day

    Let them see

    I don't want popularity

    They need to know

I'm fine without their stupid schemes

    Cause I'm fine being ignored

    Won't let them change me

    Remake me

    Into one of them

    I won't regret my decision

    Let them play

    All their little games

Won't let them ruin my day

    Let them see

    I don't want popularity

    They need to know

I'm fine without their stupid schemes

    Cause I'm fine being ignored

You don't have to be mean

    Even though it might seem

Like all I need to do

    Is let go of myself

All I need to be is you

    "Just mimic me"

    And let me know

    All your secrets

    All your privacy, your life

    Let them play

    All their little games

Won't let them ruin my day

    Let them see

    I don't want popularity

    They need to know

I'm fine without their stupid schemes

    Cause I'm fine being ignored

    Never talked to

    Never listen

    Never want to know me

    But I'm always there

    Let them play

    All their little games

Won't let them ruin my day

    Let them see

    I don't want popularity

    They need to know

I'm fine without their stupid schemes

    Desperate, seeking external norm

    Endless desire to foot, conform

So eager to blend with the sheeplike mass,

Embracing the vulgar, the crude, the crass

Safety in numbers is what we're told

The big, bad world has no prize for the bold

It'll skin you alive, stripping flesh from bone

It's a dangerous place, don't face it alone

Conditioned to cower, to hide in the group

Trading true spirit for a safe, endless loop

We need instructions and others' assent

To realize what is proper, right, and decent

Wild-eyed nut jobs shouting in the street,

"robots are taking over, time to retreat!"

There's no hiding, they've not told us to run

Machines aren't taking over, they've already won

  • C/c "breaking out" please?

    Breaking out

We're sick of all your silly rules,

Bound and gagged, mute slave to fools

We'll keep on playing til you lose

You'll stop this act, drop the ruse

Cause we're breaking out tonight (tonight)

We're leaving all of this behind

Tearing down the walls inside our minds

You can't run, can't hide, we'll win this fight

Can you see the way you are,

    Reflected in others' eyes

False king with a tin foil fist

You don't know the half of it

Cause we're breaking out tonight (tonight)

We're leaving all of this behind

Tearing down the walls inside our minds

You can't run, can't hide, we'll win this fight

    We're done with this,

    We're done with you

    We are the strong,

    You are the few

Time to fall, we've seen you slip

Go under with your sinking ship

We're out, we're done with all of it

The gun is in another's grip

Cause we're breaking out tonight (tonight)

We're leaving all of this behind

Tearing down the walls inside our minds

    You can't run, can't hide, we've won

  • Opinions on a friend's poem please?

I'm asking this for one of my friends, she doesn't have a Y!A account, but she's trying to get feedback on her work. She's 13, and for her age, incredibly talented IMO.

    Ragged Love

Under the moonlight I can already see

That you and me are just as perfect as can be

Your hand slides right into mine

And I know that you'll never leave my side

Sometimes we enter a dark place

    And fight to stay awake

But I'll take your ragged love over a perfect storm

I'll love you more than I ever have before

Don't let this spark burn out in me

'Cause I want to live you endlessly

    During the day

    I already know

    What you're gonna say

But I didn't think it would turn out this way

Maybe we're perfect and you're all I need

Maybe we're lovers just ripped at the seams

But I'll take your ragged love over a perfect storm

I'll love you more that I ever have before

Don't let this spark burn out in me

'Cause I want to love you endlessly

    I want your ragged love

    Your passionate kiss

    I want your hard heart

I want your dark path to meet my light

I'll guide you like a candle at night

I'll take your ragged love over a perfect storm

I'll love you more than I ever have before

Don't let this spark burn out in me

'cause I want to love you endlessly

I'll take your ragged love over a perfect storm
