  • Can I be asked to leave the hospital by a patients family if the patient has advocated me as their medical power of attorney?

My boyfriend had an emergency esophageal removal back in February due to a complication from a routine minimally invasive procedure for atrial fib. The surgeon burnt a 2 centimeter hole through his esophagus and didn't catch it until a week later even though he was complaining and had the classic symptoms of an esophageal perf. He ended up septic and his esophagus was removed and he spent two weeks in ICU on a vent because his lungs couldn't take the trauma and infection. He almost died. Next week he is going in for a gastric pull up procedure to construct a portion of his stomach into his esophagus. He recently completed a divorce and his parents still are bitter about it, even though I am not the reason for the divorce, they push their anger onto me. I am 8 months pregnant with our child, he has made his wishes clear to the family and as I said he has advocated me as his medical proxy after speaking with his lawyer to ensure that I cannot be asked to leave by his family while he is in the hospital, I'm still nervous though. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks!
