2 AnswersBlues1 decade agoSource for small idler pulley and tensioners for 1/4" wide flat belt?
hello
I am attempting to find a flanged idler and appropriate tensioner for a small machine I am building that will involve power transmission via a 1/4" width flat toothed belt. The machine will drive both directions and I do not desire a spring-loaded tensioner.
What I seek is a flanged idler pulley that I can mount on a simple tensioner with slotted holes to allow me to set the tension manually.
Ideally the idler pulley will be between 1" and 2" diameter (or in that general size range).
Any ideas of sources of such an animal?

Will the bearings fit the threaded rod as snugly and precisely on the peaks of the threads as they will on a plain 1/4" shaft?
3 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoWhat is an appropriate (temporary) resistance to use for a starting resistor for 5VDC motor?
The starting resistor will only be in the circuit for a moment upon starting the motor. The shunt circuit will be managed by a time-delay relay.
I imagine I will use a beefy potentiometer but I would like to know what range of resistance would be appropriate.
Thank you.

1 AnswerEngineering1 decade agoPlease help me design a logic circuit that counts 35 interruptions of an IR sensor then opens a relay?
Hello. Thank you for stopping by.
I need to design and build a little board that will close a relay via pushbutton (while ignoring an interrupted IR sensor), then count 35 interruptions of said sensor, opening the relay upon seeing the 35th count.
For perspective on what I'm doing here: this system is going to count the number of rotations of a gear then power down the DC motor driving the mechanism upon seeing the desired number of rotations.

More specifically - will a magnetic base or other powerful magnet hold with full power to sheet metal epoxied thoroughly to a flat surface as well as it would to a lager mass of thicker steel?
Does the mass of steel available for holding to matter?
1 AnswerPhysics1 decade agoBest way to approach resistance training at first to strengthen tendons/ligaments?
I've been training for years now and am not concerned with my own connective tissue. The story is this: I will be helping a couple teenage males get started with weight training, and don't want to send the lads on a path that will lead to injury.
I plan to spend the first few weeks working with relatively low weight loads while concentrating on form, technique, breathing, the physiology of muscle growth, diet, and proper stretching before, during and after training.
Any hot tips on helping these brave lads avoid injury?

Abbreviations for the sake of saving space and avoiding carpal tunnel when texting on a telephone almost make sense (though are still annoying)
- but -
I see, time and again, what are obviously intentional quasi-phonetic mutilations of common words with no real gain involved. Frankly, it looks like it probably takes longer to figure out a trendy(?) way to mis-spell something than it would to just spell it properly...
Is this unique to any one particular subculture?
Is it simply a misguided form of rebellion?

Hello
I am hoping to find a (preferably free) program that will allow me to capture reasonable-quality still photos from my computer with a Fuji Finepix 2600 connected via USB in PC CAM mode.
Time-lapse options a plus but not essential. For all intents and purposes I want to be able to capture individual frames remotely from the camera without having them stored on the memory card or having to physically touch the camera to operate the shutter.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'm soon to be moving up in the world and shooting on slightly larger-format emulsion (4X5), and this will of course be much more affordable if I leave my comfort zone of shooting on glass plates...
Can VRP-M 4X5 sheets of flexible film be sandwiched between glass without the mess and hassle of index-matching fluid?
