  • My former employer won't release my 401k funds to me...what do I do???

My employment was terminated 30 days ago from a former employer. According to the plan administration company for my 401k plan, the SOLE person responsible for the processing of paperwork to release my 401k funds to me is my former boss. I had to ask her to send me the forms, which she did. I sent them back to her certified mail, and she received them over a week ago. Just yesterday, I called ING to see if they had received the paperwork to disperse my funds to me, and they had not. At this point, it is simply a matter of her signing them and faxing them to ING for processing. There isn't much money in there, but it is money that I am desperately needing at this point in time.

This is a spiteful woman who is playing games. I emailed her yesterday and nicely asked her to fax them the paperwork, and her response was that she'd "try to get to it eventually." She has no intentions of sending this paperwork to them in a timely manner.

Who can I contact for help besides ING?

  • How much should I set aside for taxes on my legal settlement?

I recently was awarded a legal settlement of $55,000. The party paying the money is planning to pay it out on a 1099, labeled as "emotional distress" damages. I don't know much about this, except that it will ultimately reduce the amount of taxes that are taken out. The problem is that because they are handing me a lump sum check with the 1099, they are not taking the taxes out in advance. Does anyone know how much of this I should set aside for my taxes next year?

  • What is the best MP3 player to buy?

I am thinking of getting a basic MP3 player for someone for Christmas. I don't want to spend more than $150, but I want to get the best quality for the money. Is 1GB enough memory size? What brand is best? Is there a difference in where you can download the music depending on which brand you buy? I don't want to buy something crappy.

  • In an employment discrimination lawsuit, who has the bigger burden of proof?

I've been told that the burden of proof always lies with the Plaintiff, but I've recently heard that the courts will instruct a jury that they need to decide basically if the discrimination "could have" happened, and not so much if it was proven that it did. In that case, isn't the burden of proof moreso on the defendant to prove that the discrimination DIDN'T happen at all?

  • How do I find information online about a Federal Civil Court Case that has just been filed recently?

There is a particular civil employment discrimination lawsuit that I have been following the motions and decisions made online. It was filed in the CT State Courts in 09/06, and as of October 2, the judge granted the Defendant's motion to remove the case to Federal Court. I need to know the website where I can look up the publicly available information. I was looking under the www.ct.gov judicial website, but now I'm not sure what Federal site to use. Help??

  • How do you "clean out" a full dreamcatcher?

My 8 yr old son has a dreamcatcher above his bed. He has been having some bad dreams lately, and he is under the impression that his dreamcatcher is "full". Is there a ritual that I can walk him through to "clean out" the dreamcatcher. I think this will hopefully ease his mind a bit at bedtime.

  • Have you ever heard of getting a rebate or refund on your utility payments?

My neighbor said that she brought her 2005 receipts for her electric bill to the town offices, and they gave her a $700 rebate! I'm fuzzy on the details of what it was for, but has anyone ever heard of this? We live in CT, and the energy company is CL&P.

  • What would you do if your next door neighbor left his 6 year old daughter home alone?

Our next door neighbor has a 6 yr old daughter. He has sole custody, but his mother ends up taking care of her 99% of the time because he's either working or with his girlfriend. I had suspected that she was often left alone at home, but tonight I witnessed it firsthand. The grandmother left the house alone. Then the father pulled up in his truck about 2 hours later, and the young girl came outside. I feel so bad for this little girl.

  • Did you hear about the blonde...?

A blonde calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over here and help me. I have a killer jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure out how to get it started."

Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?"

The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a tiger."

Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle spread all over the table.

He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger."

He takes her hand and says, "Second, I want you to relax. Let's

Have a nice cup of tea, and then," he sighed................

"Let's put all the Frosted Flakes back in the box."

  • What is the timeframe that a creditor must bring you to court within after you default?

In other words, how long do they have before they cannot take legal action against you? I understand the whole credit bureau reporting process, but I'm wondering how long they have to actually serve you with a summons to appear in court to answer for the debt, if that's what they want to do.

  • What happens when a person assumes responsibility for someone else's debt by signing a form from the creditor?

My friend's parents allowed her to use their identities to open up about 13 different credit accounts in their names. She kept up w/the payments and never fell behind, but her mother finally realized that she might have gotten in over her head. Her mother took the cards away, and started contacting all of the creditors, telling them that she never gave permission to her daughter to obtain all this credit in her name (even though she did). A couple of the creditors sent a form to the daughter, which she was supposed to sign to supposedly accept legal responsibly for the debt. She's afraid if she signs this form, that the creditor can then say she admitted to defrauding her parents, and have her arrested. There's no way she can now pay off all at once the money that is owed, and the parents are now unwilling to pay the debt. One of the creditors is already taking her parents to court. What are their options? They don't want to press charges against their daughter.

  • Where can I find information about Government first time home buyers programs?

I'm looking into all of my mortgage options. I've already been approved for a loan with 100% financing, but not sure I want to go that route. My score is around 630 right now, and slowly getting better. I've been at the same job for over 9 years, and at the same residence for 4 years. I don't have any money in savings, but if I waited a few years I could probably save a little. Would I qualify for a goverment FHA loan?
