  • Confused about employer contribution?

    I just got a job and in the packet they gave me it says that the employer's retirement plan is a defined contribution plan (TIAA/CREF). The employer provides a 10% employer contribution.

    I just graduated college and this is completely new to me. Is it up to 10% matching of my salary?, 10% of what I contribute?, and do I even have to contribute, in order to take take advantage of the retirement plan?

    I'll go talk to the HR person, but I just don't want to seem like a complete noob when speaking with her.
