AK-47 Clone - Where to buy?
Hello all. Given the current political state of this country, new gun control measures appear imminent. This is encouraging me to purchase an AK-47 clone in the near future. I've been hunting around for awhile, and I'm looking for a cheap place to buy an AK. It must have the following features:
-Must be semi-automatic. I'm not looking for a class III item, just a nice semi-auto AK variant.
-Must be 7.62x39mm cal.
-Must be new. I've had too many bad experiences with used semi-autos
-922r Compliant (obviously)
-Accept double stack magazines (rules out Saigas without modification that I'd rather not deal with)
-Stamped receiver instead of milled (I just don't want to shell out the extra cash...)
-Optics mount rail on the side, not the top receiver plate.
-Must be as economical as possible. ($450 and under preferably)
-I'd prefer Russian or Bulgarian make - not Chinese.
All other features (i.e. stock/furniture, bayonet lug, etc.) are unnecessary. My state has very few restrictions on firearms, so I'll swap out furniture as I like. At this point I just want a platform that I can customize as needed.
I've been searching for awhile, but given the quantity of sellers out there I figured I'd ask in this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
9 AnswersHunting10 years ago3" Magnum in 3" Chamber?
I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 12 ga. shotgun which I use primarily for skeet/trap and waterfowl. I've found that for most applications a 2 3/4" shell is more than adequate. I do however want the ability to shoot 3" Magnum shells if the need arises (slugs, buckshot, etc.). I have always been under the impression that a "magnum" designation (at least with shotguns) is analagous to a +P designation in many handgun rounds; that is the round has more power, but doesn't need a differently chambered firearm. My buddy told me that in order to fire 3" Magnum slugs, the barrel must indicate that it can take magnum loads. I've never really needed to test it, but I'm apprehensive about doing so now. Can I fire 3" Magnum 12 ga rounds if my chamber is marked '2 3/4" and 3" ?'
Note: I'm not asking if I can shoot 3.5" shells in a 3" Chamber, I know this will not work.
Thanks!
4 AnswersHunting1 decade agoTitle of a climbing movie?
I'm having a brain fart. I've been working on a climbing film for one of my classes which focuses primarily on vertical ice and rock. I haven't come up with a working title yet. Show me your creativity please?
3 AnswersClimbing1 decade ago.30-06 Ammo Question?
I'm stocking up on .30-06 ammo because of the recent spikes in ammo prices. I recently bought a .30-06 and I'm wondering which type (read bullet weight) is suitable for what? I've seen 150gr, 165gr, 180gr and 220gr. I've been buying mostly 180gr. What are the primary uses for each of the different weights and which should I get? My primary purpose for the .30-06 is hunting medium to large game - nothing larger than moose. Primarily deer
9 AnswersHunting1 decade agoKel-Tec PF9 Concealed Carry?
My primary carry firearm is a Ruger SR9. I like the firearm but it is a little hard to conceal on my waist in the warm weather. I'm looking at purchasing a small Kel-Tec PF9 for a shoulder carry. I know Kel-Tec doesn't make the best firearms in the world, but I want something tiny and light for when I can't conceal my primary firearm. I've looked at other sub-compacts and selected the PF9 (over glock 27 and others) because it appears to be the easiest to conceal. The thickness of the firearm is a big factor. Does anyone have experience with this firearm? Any suggestions for a similar firearm in 9mm or greater? Thanks!
4 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWhich rifle caliber and rifle? Moose?
I'm looking to purchase a new hunting rifle. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Savage 111 or similar model. I need something that won't break the bank (spare me the quality speeches - I'm not shooting wings off of a fly) and something capable of shooting out to 300 yards with acceptable groups. I need a versatile round capable of humanely taking game up Moose size. I had decided on a .30-06, however none were available when I last went to my local gun dealer. There was however a .270, 7mm-08, and .300 Win Mag. I thought the .300 Win Mag was a bit too heavy - I want something that won't bruise my shoulder constantly. I don't know much about the 7mm-08... I figured a .308 would be a hair light...
So - which caliber would be powerful enough to take Moose reliably/humanely with the lowest recoil? I know...shot placement is everything...but still?
Any other rifle suggestions? I just want a starter hunting rifle. I'll upgrade later on if I need something more accurate. I know that's a broad question...I'm looking in the sub $400 range WITH a scope and smooth action. I've ruled out the Remington 770. I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!
10 AnswersHunting1 decade agoAr 15 Precision Upper?
Hello all - I'm looking to revamp my AR by purchasing another upper. I'm hoping to utilize the collective knowledge of this forum to land the best possible deal - I'm looking at a $400 budget - maybe a little bit more. Yes, $400 - I know it's a bit low, but I'm a bit broke. I'm looking for a higher degree of precision in some longer distance shooting (or at least long for the .223).
I need:
-Chrome lined barrel/Chamber
-Free Floating Barrel/Handguard
I want:
-Wylde chamber (or similar chamber for both 5.56 NATO and .223 REM
-18-24" in length
-A4 style flat top
Other features are unimportant - I just want a precision upper as cheap as possible. I know the proverbial "you get what you pay for" attitude, and unfortunately right now that just isn't feasible.
3 AnswersHunting1 decade agoRed Dot sight on a S&W 22a?
I have a S&W 22a pistol with 7" barrel and I'm trying to put a red dot sight on it. Due to the design of the weaver sight rail I need a sight which will take rings ONLY - not a full length integrated attachment point. Honestly I just want something cheap - preferably under $50. I know that doesn't leave too many options open, but I paid just over $200 for the pistol. I'm only shooting .22lr so I don't need a great sight anyway. Any suggestions?
7 AnswersHunting1 decade agoRepeated Axle breakage?
I have a Trek 4100 Bike, and I've gone through two axles this week. The first snapped altogether, the second bent in less than two hours of riding. The axle is a QR 10 X 146mm. I've never had this problem before, and I'm not riding this bike very rough - I'm not jumping the bike (with the exception of the 8" "hops" which are often unavoidable in cross country riding). I've ridden this way for years and never had a problem until this bike...any ideas as to the problem and possible solutions?
3 AnswersCycling1 decade agoCheap S&W 22A magazines?
I recently purchased a new S&W 22a. I have the included magazine and I was looking for a spare or two, however I was surprised by the cost... MSRP of $30 for a 10 rnd 22LR mag? I know mags aren't the cheapest, but this little 10 rounder costs almost twice as much as my 30 round AR-15 Mags. I've done some hunting on gunbroker, ableammo, etc. and have found similar prices. Does anyone know of a cheaper store/option?
2 AnswersHunting1 decade agoGood .22 LR First Handgun?
I'm turning 21 in a week and I'm looking for a good .22 LR handgun. I've been shooting rifles and shotguns for years but I have had little experience with handguns. I'm looking for:
Chambered in .22 LR (Cheap ammo, low recoil, easy to practice form with)
Single or Single/Double Action Semi-Auto (Preferably Single/Double)
Medium to Large size (No Beretta Bobcats, but P22's are fine)
No Revolvers
Reliability
Under $350 if possible (I'm saving up for a larger caliber handgun eventually)
I've been looking at Sig Mosquitoes, Wather P22's, and S&W 22's. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
19 AnswersHunting1 decade agoWalter P22 Issues and alternatives?
So this question has several parts - please bear with me.
I'm turning 21 in about a week and I'm looking to get two handguns (a month apart). First I'm looking for a .22 LR. I like the cheap ammo and I'm planning on using it mostly to help improve my form. I've heard mixed things about misfeeds and jams with the Walther P22 (one of my top contenders) as well as accidental disassembly. Have these issues been corrected in the more recent models? Are these issues genuine or overblown? Can they easily be fixed by filing down the slide slightly and adjusting spring tension in the magazine/hammer? Would you recommend a P22 or something else? I'd like that something else to be a Single/Double action .22 LR with reasonable accuracy (however I realize accuracy is not going to be great with any .22) in the same price range as the P22.
Second...I'm looking for a larger caliber handgun which I may use as a carry firearm down the road. I prefer something slightly more powerful than a 9mm, I like Single/Double action, and I'm looking at less than $700 new (preferably less used). I like a lot of the Beretta models, but I do have a soft spot for the 1911 model (even though it's single only). Any suggestions that I should check out before making my decision?
Thanks for bearing with me - I know it's a long question. Ten points and Thumbs Up to best answer(s).
5 AnswersHunting1 decade agoIce Climbing Literature?
I've been rock climbing for years and have decided to take up ice climbing. While I'm seeking instruction from qualified individuals, I also want to know what books people recommend? I own a few Rock Climbing and Mountaineering books ("Mountaineering: Freedom of the Hills" is my bible...), but I'm looking for an Ice Climbing specific book...what do people recommend? Again I'm not looking for primary instruction from it - just supplementary.
1 AnswerClimbing1 decade ago"Mad Rock Mountain" Boots for Ice Climbing?
Looking into starting Ice climbing. I've looked at a few different Boot designs, right now I'm really looking at either the Mad Rock "Mountain" or "Alpinist" boots - mostly because of price. I know - in the long run a $400 boot will be worth it, but that's not in the budget right now - maybe next year. Until then I need an inexpensive boot. How do these models stack up as far as pure Ice Climbing goes? I won't be doing any serious mountaineering with these boots - I just need something to tide me over. So are they rigid enough? Do they hold up well? Does anyone have these boots and can tell me from personal experience how they perform? I know Mad Rock doesn't make the best climbing shoes, but they have come a long ways. I just want something rigid and functional for now.
1 AnswerClimbing1 decade agoBest Cams? Camalot, Alien, etc.?
I'm adding to my rack, I already have several cams of varying sizes, and have 2 Omega Pacific link cams. Weight isn't as much of an issue with me as it is with some people - I'm not climbing R/X or anything crazy - I just want some nice bomber cams. So which brands do you prefer?
Black Diamond Camalot
Metolius Master Cams
Aliens? (I've heard some mixed reviews...)
2 AnswersClimbing1 decade agoWhitewater Kayak Ideas?
So I've decided to really get into whitewater this year. I have an older 11' Whitewater boat which simply isn't suited for anything Class III and up. A coworker of mine is an ACA certified Whitewater Kayaking instructor, and plans to re-introduce me to the sport. My question is...which boat should I get?
I know that's a broad question, and I have a few guidelines.
1) It must be under 8' 5" or so to fit in my dorm room upright.
2) I'm working with a college student's budget, I'm hoping to buy used at under $400
3) I'm going to be mostly in rivers & creeks, up to Class IV. It would be nice if this boat could also be used to surf when I go back to the seacoast, but I have another boat for that, so it isn't essential.
4) I'm 5' 10" average build, 170lbs
So...what kayaks would you guys recommend?
2 AnswersWater Sports1 decade agoSport Climbing Multipitch in the North East US?
I'm looking for some nice Sport multipitch in the Northeast US. Anywhere from 5.6-5.11ish. I'm heading out of NH. I'm hoping for a week long trip of sport climbing and don't mind driving a few hundred miles to get it, however I prefer not to cross the Canadian border. If you have info on good camping areas that's great too. I don't plan on bringing my trad gear (and DO plan on bringing strictly sport climbers) so trad is pretty much out of the question. Any ideas folks?
1 AnswerClimbing1 decade agoSport Multi Pitch, New England Area?
I'm looking to try a bit of sport multipitch - my trad rack is in it's infancy and trad partner is across the country, so no trad or mixed: pure sport. Anyone know of some good areas besides Rumney in/near New England? Looking for something 5.5-5.11, preferably withing the 7-9 range. Any ideas?
1 AnswerClimbing1 decade agoSport Climbing in North Carolina?
My buddies and I are going to NC over Spring Break. My trad rack is in it's infancy - so Trad is a no. I'm looking for some good Sport and even Toproping in the area. Any suggestions? Any Multipitch Sport climbs?
We'll be staying in central NC, but we can venture around quite a bit - VA and WV if need be. We can even go to South Carolina, we just want a lot of good Sport climbing in a consolidated area.
