I have an overheating dlink router Will a unmanaged switch reduce the load on the router and allow cooler running?
I have a D-Link DIR-826L router which I think is overheating. It drops wireless connections occasionally but sometimes this happens every 20 mins. One min its fine then the network icon suddenly shows the ! and limited connection I cannot connect to anything including the internal addresses of my fileservers. The Dlink has 2 cables to my file servers (both gigabit systems and internet accessible), 1 to the powerline network (which serves the xbox and a second router in the den) and one to a desktop computer so all cable ports are in use. Wirelessly we have 3 phones, up to 4 laptops and 2 tablets connected. Would an unmanaged switch, with everything that is wired plugged into that and that connected to the router offload from the router and help it keep cool? or should I be looking at more wireless routers to be used as AP's on the powerline network and limit the wireless equipment to just a few per AP?
2 AnswersComputer Networking6 years agoYahoo answers appeal?
Yahoo answers recently deleted an answer I gave "The answer on Yahoo Answers was reported and deleted by one or more trusted members of the Answers community" I believe this to be in error. I clicked the appeal link and........nothing. The info I gave was legitimate, correct, and LEGAL. yet some one "more trusted" has made an error and now the only way the person who asked the question can sort it out will have to pay for something they already LEGALLY own. Yet I cannot put my reasons they are in error to yahoo because their appeal link leads to nowhere! How can I correct this?
7 AnswersYahoo Answers7 years agoLooking for help with Task Scheduler on windows 7?
Up till now I have used task scheduler on my stepsons laptop to shut it down at bedtime, but recently had to grant him administrator rights due to some software he uses not running on limited accounts (Steam). Since then he has removed the shutdown command repeatedly. I believe in windows 7 there is a way to schedule a task to run between 2200 hours and 0700 hours repeating every 4 or so mins to run an external file (ie a .bat file that will contain the shutdown command but will be named something innocuous like "steam update" as he wont touch that!) and stop running after 0700 but start again at 2200 I know I could put the shutdown command in the task entry, but thats just too easy for him to see and remove so thats why it will be in the .bat file and run in user 0 so it doesn't show up when executing but will still shutdown the laptop. He is switching the laptop on at ridiculous hours of the night and has school the next day.
I know there will be some of you out there that sympathies with my son and want to howl abuse at me for curtailing his computer time (mainly teenagers) but this is his exam year and if he wants to get his dream job of programming he has to study and even maybe learn how to circumvent my blocks. So look at it as a challenge to him to learn more about his own system.
3 AnswersSoftware7 years agoGateway laptop mx6211b power jack broken! Instructions required in how to repair!?
Has anybody got a link to instructions on how to repair/replace the power jack on this laptop please. I ain't got the funds to send it in for repair, but the part itself is cheap its the labour that costs. Something with diagrams would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers in advance.
4 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoCan a solicitor find someones address through Facebook or similar site?
I am wanting to get a solicitor to serve some papers on someone in the UK. I have no address for them, But they have appeared on Facebook and other sites. Can a solicitor gain access through these sites to gain the persons details. This would be a civil case and not a criminal case. And it does not concern abuse over the net.
Cheers in advance.
