  • Excel: Save corrupts working spreadsheet?

I have an excel spreadsheet which I'm using as a template. I copy the template an rename it to get my working spreadsheet. The new working spreadsheet opens OK, and saves OK as long as no changes have been made to it. Even if I only click in a cell (any cell, even empty ones) within the spreadsheet, and then save, it refuses to re-open, and produces an error : Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. The exception code is 00001590. I'm a bit stumped as to what it could be, the spreadsheet contains external links. Anyone any ideas?

  • missing columns when importing an Access report into Excel?

I'm using Access&Excel 2003 / WinXP SP2. I've got a report which totals some values. When I export the report to Excel, my totals column is missing. This has only just started to happen, and I can't think that I've made any changes that might have caused it.

I've discovered that if I put the report into design mode, then without making any changes go back into view mode, then export again, the totals column is no longer missing. However if I just run the export again, the totals column is missing again. WTF?

So I can work around the problem, but would like a solution if poss, as I'm not the only user of this system, and the other users would be stuck!

I read that this is a known bug, but details on how to avoid it would be good!

  • Can i flag tracks so that they don't sync from WMP 11 to my MP3 player?

I've got loads of foreign language learning tracks in my Windows Media Player 11 library, which I don't want to sync to my MP3 player when I let WMP pick a random selection to fill the device.

I know I can remove them from the sync list manually, but then I have to manually pick other tracks to fill up the remaining space. As I re-sync quite often, it's a bit of a pain. I've checked in the properties and advanced tag editors, but there don't appear to be any 'never sync this track' type options.

If this isn't possible in WMP11, are there any music players which will do this - basically which will pick random music from your library, either to play or sync, excluding certain tracks?

  • Using VBA, why do I get a compile error (variable not defined) when I use Statusbartext = "xyz"?

All the VBA help guides suggest this is right, but I just get a compile error when I use it. I used to know how to do this, so I know there is a command that works, it's for the bar at the bottom of the dataabse.

  • Is it possible for separate logons to WinXP to have different default mail clients?

Changing it for one logon seems to change it for the other too - this is very frustrating, as it also makes a registry change which removes permission for the other user to change this setting, resulting in millions (well...enough) browser windows opening when the user without the permissions clicks a mailto link.

I've tried tweaking the registry to give permission to both users, all users, system etc, but when one user sets their default mail client, the other is locked out again. WinXP(home) seems to be ignoring the whole point of having separate user logons.
