1 AnswerPoetry1 decade agoPoem: The Hero by George Woodcock?
What is this poem about and if you were to place a theme on it, would it be "Innocence" or "Experience"?
Out of the east the hero came,
Tall as a tree and swift as a flame,
Lithe as water and lovely as cream.
But his eyes were fire and his tongue was steel,
His finger a flag and his voice a bell,
And magic to rats and men his will.
He slew the kings and the titled drones,
Felled the chapels and gods of stone
And made his roads with the sacred bones.
He used his guns to bring down rain,
Fed the poor with the royal grain,
Killed the church and the dread of thirteen.
But he died, and they buried his bones in gold,
His laws were frozen in a changeless code
And his name was God on the lips of the old.
Till another hero came from the east
And threw his bones for the dogs to feast.
