  • F2 + F4 + ... + F2n = F sub(2n+1) -1?

    Been working on this for like an hour, no idea what's going on, really.

    Show that for all n>= 1

    F2 + F4 + ... + F2n = F2n+1 -1

    All the numbers are subscript (including 2n) except the (-1) at the end.

    Is it asking me to prove that F2n = F 2n +1 -1? That doesn't seem true at all.

    It's based on the Fibonacci numbers... So F2 = 1.

    Thanks!

  • Mazda Protege 1998 body damage?

    Someone backed into my car and bent in where the drivers side turn signal was. I figured I'd just be able to pull the body out and get a new turn signal, but it looks like the metal part where the turn signal screws in is bent in as well. Also my front right headlight isn't being held in place so I'll probably need a new one. Does anyone know how much they'd charge to fix that sort of thing? I mean the headlight will probably be like 50 - 75 bucks or something, then the turn signal will probably run me like 20. I was hoping I'd just be able to deal with the dent in it, because I don't really care, but if I can't get the turn signal in correctly then I'll probably have to get it fixed professionally, and the numbers I've been hearing sound pretty high.

    Advice? Thanks.

  • Doubling time with exponential growth rate?

    Population growth rate = 7.5%

    Asking me to calculate exact time needed to double to three decimal points.

    Not allowed to use the rule of 70... Prof. posted the solution and I still have no idea how to do it. lol.

    Help would be much appreciated. This ln() stuff is relatively confusing. Got a test in the morning :|

  • How do you solve 2 / (y+3) + 3 / (y-4) = 5 / (y+6)?

    I have no idea how to do this... I know you have to get a common denominator, and if my teacher is anything to go by, it's (y+6)(y-4), but actually applying that is another story. I'd appreciate step by step directions. Thanks...

  • Grocery store to gas station?

    I currently work in a grocery store that's about a half an hour from my house. I'm a "grocery floater". In the store i used to work in things were fast paced, and there was a lot to do. The job was pretty easy. Now that I've been transfered into the new store, things are slow. There's nothing to do most of the time. They just cut my hours since I started college and I have 8 hours this entire week. I was told this was only temporary by one of the employee's, but they probably have no idea what they are talking about. I'm also not fond of standing around, trying to find a manger to ask what they need done, only to be sent home because they literally have nothing to do. Or sent to work in frozen without any gloves or some other crap.

    So, if I apply for a gas station job and I'm offered the job, would it be advisable to quit my grocery job and do that instead? I've been told the gas station in question is flexible with a college students hours, and pays better than the store I'm currently working. My only concers will be job quality. Will working as a cashier be hard? Will it be too stressful? I'm not too worried about it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to weather it'd be a good move or not.

  • Just got a job, parents want to go on vacation?

    I got a job at a retail grocery store somewhere around a month ago. So far, I've only been working 4 hour shifts, three times a week. I'm taking Friday off because I'm getting my teeth pulled out. Ever since I was a little kid, my parents have taken me and my siblings on vacation for two weeks. I don't want to risk this job, however, so I'm anxious about asking for a bunch of time off. I'm willing to blow off vacation for work, however, my parents will probably give me hell and be all "upset" about it. I'm eighteen years old. The first 60 days of employment are supposed to be an evaluation period. IN the handbook, it also states that this period may be extended to 90 days if too much time is taken off. Should I just discuss this with my manager and see what he thinks, or what?

  • Factoring: x^2 - 4xy + 4y^2 - y^2?

    I think you get it down to:

    x^2 + 4y^2 - 4xy - Y^2

    Which equals:

    x^2 - 3y^2 - 4xy

    Right? Then what? Thanks.

  • Multiplying a matrix with variables. (Matrix equations.)?

    { -5 2 } {x} = { 3 }

    { 9 -5 } {y} = { 3 }

    I have no idea how to do this, tbh. I'm working on a pretty big project to try and pass my senior year. Help would be appreciated. It looks to me like a simple equation in which you have to solve for x and y, but it's hard to tell what I should do since matrices are confusing.

    Thanks.

  • How do you do Radical Equations?

    I've got this problem:

    sqrt(1+8x) - 2 = x

    So far I've got:

    Add 2 to both sides:

    sqrt(1+8x) = x+2

    Then square them both to get:

    1+8x = x+2 * x+ 2

    Then on the right side you have to foil, so we eventually arive at:

    1+8x = x^2 + 4x + 4

    Now what?

  • f(x,y)=2x+y for polygonal region?

    This sounds like a foreign language, to be honest... I don't remember learning any of this. Can anyone give me a hand?

    Find the maximum and minimum values of f(x, y) = 2x + y for the polygonal region determined by 0 =< x =< 5, 0 =< y =< 4, and x+y =< 8

    =< is "greater than or equal to"...

  • Linear Programming Problem?

    I've been struggling with this one.

    Mary Smith arrives at school late because her car broke down, and therefore, has only 45 minutes to complete a history exam. The exam has 2 open-ended questions and 30 multiple choice questions. Each correct open-ended question is worth 20 points, and each multiple choice question is worth 2 points. She knows that it usually takes her 15 minutes to answer an open ended question and only one minute to answer a multiple choice question. Assume for each question Mary answers, she gets full credit. How many of each type of question should she answer to receive the maximum possible points.

    So far I got:

    Points = f = x(20) + y(2)

    x(15) + y(1) => 45

    30 => X => 0

    30 => Y => 0

    X + Y <= 100

    Not sure what I'm supposed to do from there. I'm supposed to graph it, but I'm not entirely sure which parts I'm supposed to graph, and that sort of thing. Thanks.

  • HP pavilion A1606 heat sink, computer shuts down.?

    My brother has a HP pavilion A1606 desktop. The fan was sounding ridiculously loud, so I figured I would clean the whole computer out. I removed the heatsink, and the heatsink fan and blew it out with some air. When I put 'em back in, it ran for all of 30 seconds then shut off. It won't stay on, and the way I figure it, it's overheating. I'm pretty confident that I put the parts back in correctly, however, I can't find any guides to go by. Got any ideas?

  • What kind of car should I get?

    I'm looking for something extremely reliable, decently fast and fuel efficient. Those are the only three variables I care about. I realize that having all three of those is rare, but nonetheless, that's what I'm looking for.

    At first I was looking at the Ford Taurus SHO AWD 2011, but the gas mileage is crap. I've got a 2000 mercury sable right now, and I want something as fast and powerful, if not more so, but with better mileage and reliability. I need a car that won't break down for a long time, and will run regardless of me putting a little strain on it.

    Anyone got any ideas? I'm not exactly ready to buy a new car yet, but when I do I'll probably go all out and get something new, so don't worry too much about the price... Try to keep it in the 50k or less range though. Thanks.

  • Spanish homework help.?

    I'm in Spanish 3 and I'm completely lost. I'm supposed to translate some of this:

    Art class bothers him.

    The skirt fits her tight.

    They love the leather shoes.

    I am missing five dollars.

    The gold bracelet fascinates you (informal).

    We like the silk scarf.

    The boots fit him loose.

    The sweater of wool bothers you (formal).

    The silk blouse is important to me.

    I love the yellow sandals.

    And stuff like that. I'd appreciate it if someone could break this stuff down or just give me examples of how to do it or whatever. Thanks...
