  • How do you feel about public assistance?

Ok, so here is the situation that I really want to get opinions about. The state has no problem handing money and food stamps over to those who sit around doing nothing but drink beer and be stupid. Yet when someone who works hard and just can't make ends meet tries to get help they are told they make too much money. The problem is that decision is based on GROSS income. Gross income (pre-tax) is no where close to what someone has to actually spend on bills. If one makes 1100 every two weeks but then has to pay out 300 for insurance plus pay out taxes to the point that they only bring home 700 per paycheck, how is it that the government feels they can judge people on the money that they do not actually make?

I guess I am just curious what you think about public assistance being given to do nothings while the rest of us all struggle to make ends meet?

  • How many of you will be happy the commercials are gone?

Are you as sick and tired of all the political commercials that do nothing but spout and preach negativity and ignorance? Will you be happy when the elections are over and you do not have to watch them any longer?

  • Is anyone else wondering why we are bailing out failing businesses when there is a better option?

Of course, I will be accused of being a "liberal" so sling your junk it is ok. But why bail out a failing business? Republicans claim they are not in the business of bailouts and are anti-public assistance for families but now we are going to give public assistance/corporate welfare to the tune of nearly 1 trillion dollars! Hypocrite sounds good to me.

Instead, why not provide emergency funding to families facing foreclosure so they can keep their home and have a chance to continue impacting the economy in a positive way. When someone loses their home it is sometimes a fast track to losing their car(s), jobs, and other things as well. So, to me it makes sense to help "bail out" the borrower instead of now bailing out the lenders who were so financially ignorant and borrowed money to those who could not afford it!

  • Parents: What were the underlying factors that caused you to choose homeschooling your children?

I am doing research for a Masters level education course and am thinking about writing my thesis on the sociological benefits and drawbacks of homeschooling. So many people argue that homeschoolers do not get the same amount of socialization as those who attend "traditional schools". I am going to start by looking at motivations for homeschooling versus sending your child(ren) to public or private schools.

  • What in the heck is happening to American Society?

I refer to the sensless and systematic violence against schools. In one week two morons and a disgruntled, severely disturbed student have thought it their right to take the lives of innocent people. The latest being in a non-violent, religiously strong Amish Community and involving children aged 6 to 12!

What is going on here? Is American society that MESSED UP?
