  • We are trying to figure out if our foal is just teething or has injured herself?

We have a 7 month old foal who late last night when we checked on her had blood around her mouth so when we looked in her mouth one side was really inflamed and almost looked like she might have injured it. But once we rinsed it it was not bleeding and almost looked like a tooth may be coming in at the bottom. So we waited till today to see if we should call a vet and it still looked bad but no blood and she is eating and chewing on stuff but then we noticed it was starting to look a little bit the same on the other side which last night was normal when we checked to see if they looked the same. The new side is not as bad but is starting to have the same look. When we rinse her mouth she almost seems to like it and starts to relax. Could she be just getting new teeth in?

  • What is the easiest way to fix arena footing without cost?

We are looking at a place to move that has an indoor arena but the footing is hard packed dirt due to no horses using it for 5-6 years. Unfortunately with the moving cost we need to find a way to make the arena usable with out any extra cost until we can afford to bring in some sand. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

  • Anyone have any experience with Glucosamine side effects?

I have a 24 yr old Quarter horse that has always been really calm and great with kids and never spooky, until the last 2 weeks I have noticed a major change including him being spooked most of the time and even running off a couple of times. there has been no change in tack or training or riding he is current on teeth and everything else and is very regularly checked for soreness in the back and legs and shows no signs of that the only thing that has changed is I changed to a liquid glucosamine supplement. Can this cause the extreme increase in energy and jitteriness? He was previously on a powder supplement and he was fine

  • Liability and responsibility of stallion owner or boarding stable?

Does anyone have any information about the liabilities and Responsibilities of the stallion owner or the boarding stable if a mare is accidentally bred or injured due to a stallion breaking through a fence. Our boarding stable just got in a new owner that has a stallion and they are planning on letting him be turned out in a run next to the pen that my mares are in. The fence is only a 2 strand Hot tape and is "iffy" about when it works, sometimes it is great others it is only a slight tingle like it is shorting out some where. I have reported this to the barn owner and manager and caretaker but nothing has changed. But I do not want to risk my mares getting accidentally bred to this stallion or injured by him.

  • Does a newborn foal need tetanus right way?

I had a friend that used to vaccinate her foals for tetanus immediately after being born. Just yesterday I helped a person at our barn with a mare he rescued on Wednesday that was ready to foal but was also starved. When this person went to ask for a tetanus vaccine for the foal all they had was the 4 way and from what I had been told the 4 did not need to be given for a couple of months. From what we can tell the mare is extremely starved and probably has had no vaccinations. She was so tired after foaling she refused to get up to nurse the foal or clean it but now is doing better but we are not sure if the foal should have a tetanus and where to get one without getting the 4 way
