Hi, could you please help me with this question. What i am finding hard is the fact that 'a' is a power. Here's the question:

(The x is a multiplication symbol, not an algebraic symbol!!)

ok, so i was at this party recently where i extunguished a match with my mouth much to the amasement of my friends! i came to learn the trick through messing around with fire which i have done all my life. Now my question is, if my trick is decreasing my chance of survival (i am putting myself at risk by not putting the appropriate precautions in place to prevent myself from burning my body), why were my friends impressed? hi, just a small uncertainty that i could do with clarifying.

-1(x-5)(x+2)=0

what are the two values of x? If it was just (x-5)(x+2)=0, i know x would equal 5 and -2 so i suppose what im trying to ask is what effects does the -1 outside the brackets have on the x-values, no difference or a difference, in which case what.

hi, just a nagging question which i need some help on.

-x = plus or minus root 12

what does x equal? i am con fused with this because the root 12 is origionally plus OR minus so i dont know what effect dividing it by -1 has on it. Does it make it minus root 12 or is it still plus OR minus root 12?
