  • How do I get into a piano recital without a teacher?

Hi everyone. I'm 24 years old, and work full time as an engineer. However, I also play the piano. I don't have any piano teacher at the moment, but I'd love to perform a piece or two in public. It's unlikely I'll find time to prepare an hour's worth of performance-ready music, but I can definitely prepare 10 to 15 minutes. I was thinking of something along the lines of the Mephisto Waltz, maybe a Liszt etude, maybe a Chopin Scherzo, etc.

The big question is this: Are there any avenues for people like me to perform in public? I live in the San Francisco bay area, if that's relevant. The only thing I can think of is to enter competitions, but are there any other ways to get on stage and perform?

  • Why are all the people at the Discovery Institute uneducated in science?

It seems that all the senior fellows at the Discovery Institute have law, journalism, political science, and English degrees. Most of them went to colleges I've never even heard of. Why don't the leaders of the Intelligent Design movement have any degrees applicable to science? Why did most of them go to T3 and T4 schools?

  • Do CFL lights fade animation cel artwork?

I'm considering buying a CFL light for my bedroom to save electricity, but I heard that they can fade some types of paintings and prints. I have an animation cel framed on my wall, and I do not want to allow it to fade.

  • Where to download intraday historical stock data?

Hi. I am looking for historical, intraday stock data. More important than anything else, I would like the smallest interval possible. 5 minute intervals are okay, 1 minute is better, 15 seconds is awesome. I'd like to have the historical intraday data for at least 100 different stocks on NASDAQ, dating back at least 5 years.

I don't care how much space the data takes up, I don't care if I have to shell out a hundred bucks for the data. Does anyone know of any way to obtain this data?

    Thanks!

  • HHO gas savers...ligitimate or a scam?

Lately I've seen a lot of websites promoting a device what takes electricity, uses it to separate hydrogen and oxygen from water, and inject the hydrogen and oxygen mixture into the gas To me, this sounds like a complete scam, but there seems to be a lot of people on Youtube and similar sites who claim it works on their vehicles and saves them a lot of gasoline.

My question.....Is this whole HHO, Water4Gas thing a scam? It looks like a scam, sounds like a scam, and smells like a scam, but I'm finding it difficult to find actual, 3rd party reports. Has it been independently tested by a *reputable* organization like AAA?

  • Can 1 processor access all 16 gigs of memory on server MB?

I have an application which requires large amounts of memory, so I am considering buying a server motherboard with support for up to 16 or maybe 32 gigs of ram. Almost all server motherboards have a dual CPU configuration, but I want to keep the system as cheap as possible. Hence, I only want to buy 1 CPU. Will that 1 CPU be able to access all the memory on the machine, or just half?

Suppose I buy a cheap 2nd processor. Will a single threaded program be able to access all the memory? Will the program context temporarily change to the other processor when requesting certain memory addresses? What sort of performance hit is usually observed with such a scenario? Thanks!
