  • Can I set up a savings account in such a way that I can't touch the money until I have a certain amount in it?

I'd like to set up a sort of "limited self-control" savings account. I have a hard time saving money, and would like to be able to set up an account through my bank that is "locked" until I reach a certain balance.

So, say I want to save $2000 (and I do). I walk into the bank and tell the clerk, "I want to open up a savings account - but I don't want you to let me touch the money until it reaches $2000, no matter how much I beg!"

Is this possible? I'd thought that perhaps the law prohibits this type of thing, since it's legally my money and I cannot be denied access under any circumstances?

    Just curious!

Egomania? Pride? The need to be the best? What is even the purpose of allowing people to choose their own answer as "best"?

  • Why are there "uncredited" actors/actresses in movies?

My girlfriend is a fan of the band, "Hole" - and specifically, Courtney Love. She (Love) plays the role of the girlfriend of Andy Kaufman, and when we looked it up on IMDB, she is listed, all the way at the bottom of the credits list, in the "uncredited" section.

We haven't seen it yet, but I imagine the role is somewhat substantial, considering she's the girlfriend of the main character. Regardless, I'm wondering what the reasons are for any actor to not be credited for a role they played in a movie.

I understand that some roles are so minor (such as extras, or non-speaking) that to credit them wouldn't be feasible, but...yeah...

    So why?

  • How long does someone have to pay off a debt?

A friend of mine agreed to buy an older model camping trailer from my in-laws. They agreed on a sale price of around $3000, and to a payment-plan whereby my friend would pay them a few hundred dollars "here and there" until paid in full. Once paid, my friend was to remove the trailer from the property and take it away.

This was last April. Just over a year. So far, my friend has only paid about $1500 for the trailer and has done quite a bit of remodeling to the inside. The majority of the payments, and all of the work, were done within the first few months of making the deal.

The other eight or nine months went by without much communication between either party, though my friend did have sporadic conversations in which he would say he was going to pay such-and-such amount on such-and-such a date, but it would never materialize.

Now, my in-laws are becoming quite impatient with this friend of mine. They are now even suggesting that, despite the money thus paid, and regardless of what work he did to the trailer, they're tired of waiting for the payment and are just going to keep the trailer and fix it up themselves.

My friend has a receipt which describes the details of the arrangement pretty much as I said above. He's got time and money invested in this trailer, but is being incredibly nonchalant about completing the transaction.

Can they decide that it's been too long? Can they rescind on the deal? And if so, would they have to pay back whatever monies were given to them for the trailer? Would my friend have any legal recourse in the matter, should they decide they've waited long enough?

Lots of questions here. I'm just trying to give you a feel for what I'm trying to find out.

I appreciate any info you might have. Thanks!

  • Female assassin movie? Can you tell me what it is?

She's in the kitchen, chopping vegetables, and she starts chopping them like crazy and doing all this nutty stuff in the kitchen while her family looks on in amazement.

This was about the time she begins to realize that she's no ordinary housewife.

And I think I remember someone shooting an RPG into their house.

    WHAT movie was this?

  • How's my Driving History?

    Hiya!

I've been driving professionally for over four years. Having recently become unemployed because of some changes that took place at my old company, I've found myself looking for work.

Everyone wants my driver's history report, so I went down to the local DMV on 1/29/10 and here's a brief rundown of what it says:

Arrest or Warning Date 11/02/06 - Violation - Speeding - Conviction Date 02/07/07

Arrest or Warning Date 12/05/06 - Violation - Driving too fast for condition - Conviction Date 04/10/07

    Total Points = 000

I'm to understand that these violations stay on my record for three years. I guess that means the first violation (which became 3 years old on the 7th Feb. 2010) has expired. Now I've got to wait until Apr. 10th 2010 for the 2nd one to clear.

Zero points, a nearly 3 year old minor violation... What do you think? Should I be concerned that I won't get "approved" or whatnot?

  • Is there any stable, properly functioning "black" society with European standards?

I have yet to hear of a 3rd world country dominated by white (or light-skinned) people. All of the horribly impoverished, 3rd world nations are inhabited and "run" by black people.

Are there any wealthy black nations, which have "European" standards?

It seems like it's the same in the U.S., on a smaller scale. In cities like Detroit, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia - the areas with the highest crime and poverty rates are dominated by blacks.

I'm not trying to be a racist person here, but these absolutely ARE the facts. Crime and poverty rates among the black population are double, even TRIPLE what other races are.

It got me thinking on a larger scale. Can you find me a "wealthy" black society? Or a "desperate" white society?

  • Unemployment - Am I eligible?

    Hello Yahoo respondents!

I was employed as a driver for over three years. For the first two and a half, I'd never had an issue. I was comfortable and friendly with my boss and my dispatchers. Everything seemed fine.

That is, until about six months ago. Two "new" bosses had replaced my old boss, and it was a pretty rough transition for everyone. They began hiring everyone who walked through the door, which "thinned out" the workload, so to speak, and our paychecks suffered because of it.

Company morale went way down, and I was no exception. I was written up twice, and both times I disputed the charges, but I was threatened with termination each time, if I refused to sign the paperwork which "officiated" the write-ups.

Two years of hard work, determination, and an unblemished record, and I'm suddenly faced with termination for absolutely petty grievances. New boss power-trip syndrome, perhaps.

My last "run-in" with the bosses resulted in a "virtual" termination, of sorts. I don't have my own vehicle. Their recent "punishment" has been to disallow me the ability to take the company car home. I begin my day in town, about seven miles from my house. Their office, on the other hand, is 30 miles away.

The deal is, that I'm not technically "fired", but instead of taking the car home at night, I've got to have someone drive me 30 miles to the office to pick up my car. My ride then needs to drive 30 miles back home. In the evening, they have to drive 30 miles back to the office to pick me up, and then bring me back to the house, for a total weekly commute of six hundred miles.

The unemployment office told me to list "Lack of transportation" as my reason for separation. The company has responded to my claim as an "interested party" meaning they plan to fight against my claim.

The "hearing" is in two days. What do you guys think?

  • What was that movie?!?!?

    Okay...It's about a kidnapping...I think it's a boy and a girl...there's a van...a black van, I think...

I remember that the kidnappers were a man and wife, and at one point in the movie someone stumbles upon the kidnappers home, and the floor is made of plastic? And there's things inside the floor? People, maybe?

  • Why are my balls outside of my body?

Testicles. They're pretty important - so why are they just dangling there, sensitive and exposed to dangers unknown? Wouldn't it make more sense to have them be internal, and thus better protected (like the ovaries?)?

  • Can I convert bare-wire speakers into 3.5mm jacks? Do I even need to? Details within...?

Hi! I've got a Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 24bit PCI sound card. It has the following connectors: Front Out, Rear Out, Center/Sub, ALT Center, Mic In, Line In, S/PDIF Out, S/PDIF In.

I've also got an older JVC surround-sound system (head unit, left and right front speakers, left and right rear speakers, center speaker, and sub). These speakers are all bare-wire ends.

Is it possible to wire up 3.5mm jacks to the JVC speakers and connect them directly to the appropriate sound card connections? Would it work?

More importantly, would it be the best method, from an audio-quality standpoint? Is there a better way?

This question has been raised because, on the JVC head unit, I have a "Line-in" output which is a 3.5mm front connection, but if I were to hook this up to the PC sound card (via a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord) I wouldn't know which of the sound card ports to plug it in to, since they're all designated to specific speakers.

Ultimately, I'd like to know the best way to get surround sound out of my PC, and any advice towards that end is worth a LOT of points :)

  • Question about packet sniffers...?

In order to actually sniff the data packets being transmitted within the LAN, and utilizing a wireless PCI adapter as the sniffing hardware, the other computer must also be wireless, right? Because the other computer on the LAN is hardwired in via the ethernet cable.

  • My computer, an IBM ThinkPad T30, is shutting itself off semi-randomly

Details: When I power the unit on using AC power, it will shut itself off around the XP Welcome screen.

Running on battery power alone, the computer seems to boot normally and will stay on until the battery is dead.

Plugging in the AC power after the unit was booted via battery power, the system runs for about ten minutes before either freezing up completely, or shutting off.

I'm thinking...maybe the AC adapter is giving the machine too much juice...?

Any advice as to remedy? Much appreciated!

I remember this movie - and this kid gets lost in the woods, and years later his father is working at this construction site and somehow discovers his son has been living in the woods there and raised himself up ala tarzan. Does that sound familiar? Please help me find it out in the next 15 min so we can watch it for dinner! :))
