poll: Which apartment would you choose?
Background info: I'm in my twenties, going back to college part time and working, and money is very tight. I am used to having plenty of space, and currently have a townhouse to myself with lots of furniture that I own. I also have a car, and I need to cook for myself a lot.
Apartment 1: Total cost about $990. Downtown studio. Brick building. Main room is large enough for a large bed, a living area, and a desk. Best kitchen with enough storage and space to put in a dishwasher. Would have to walk to the parking area.
Apartment 2: Total cost about $925. Smaller downtown studio. Brick building. Internet is likely slow. Worst kitchen with very little work or storage space. Main room is large enough for a desk and living area, but would not work for my huge comfortable sectional, so I would have to sell it and use my futon instead. High ceilings. The nice part is that it has a four foot tall sleeping loft, so my bed mess would not be part of the main room. However there is no way to get a regular bed up there, so I would have to sell mine, and use an air mattress or something. This is an attractive place in a great location, but my biggest hesitation about it is that I don't think the sleeping loft would be any good for sex, and an air mattress may not hold up for extended use, especially if I have overnight company often. I want my bed, but I don't know about having it in the main area. Would have to walk to the parking area.
Apartment 3: Least expensive at about $900. Former single family wood frame building converted into apartments. About a 15 minute walk to my favorite downtown locations. Onsite parking space. Small, but useable kitchen. Small living room. Very tiny bedroom. Slightly older feel than the two studios.
We have harsh winters here so on one hand onsite parking would be nice. On the other hand I will likely work downtown, and it would be much easier to walk there than have to pay for a parking space, so the in town places would be better in that way. Either way I will have to drive to campus.
Thanks:)

6 AnswersPolls & Surveys8 years agoShould I have my macbook trackpad replaced/fixed?
The trackpad on my late 2011 macbook pro sometimes goes crazy. It gets to the point that I can't control it, and it will click on things, highlight things, possibly even delete things. It makes my computer unusable when it is like that, and I am a college student so I really need it and can't be losing work. However, I can go for days sometimes without it doing this. When it starts doing it it isn't anything extreme at first. All I have to do is plug in a mouse and that will work fine. After a few hours with the mouse the trackpad works fine again. It has been like this for a while now, so I don't think the problem is really getting worse, at least not quickly, and I'm sure using a mouse will always work. Cleaning it also seems to make it work properly longer.
The thing is, I hate using the mouse with it. The trackpad really suited me when it was working perfect, and I don't like having to stuff a mouse into my laptop bag. It would be worth it to me to spend the money to fix it just as a luxury.
My concern is that having someone take the computer apart and mess with it might cause other problems. My sister tried to have a laptop repaired once, and only ended up with more problems. In the end someone told her the insides were just to delicate to be messing with. Obviously if it might ruin my $1,500 computer I would rather make due with the mouse.
What do you think? Do you have any experience with computer hardware repairs?
Thanks!
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoShould I switch from a traditional verizon plan to a no contract plan?
If I am willing to use an old school phone it would be less than half the cost, but I am wondering if their are any major drawbacks, particularly when it comes to service coverage.
If you can answer any of these questions I would appreciate it:
Do the phones automatically roam when not in coverage areas?
If you have one of these phones how has your experience been?
Can I switch from the $35 plan to the $50 plan if I find I need more minutes?
What about apps?
Have you used VZ Navigator? How well does that work, and do you know how much it costs?
Any other helpful info?
Thanks you!
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans8 years agoHas this chicken gone bad?
I bought boneless skinless breasts three days ago, and cooked it this morning. The use by date is tomorrow. The first thing I noticed was that the raw pieces were so slimy. They were sitting in their own juice in the package. There were nine pieces, and when I was trimming them before cooking one had a very slight smell right when I cut it in half, but not that lasted. Actually I have cooked chicken many times that had more of a smell then that and was fine.
After cooking, a lot of juices had obviously come out of the breasts because the pan had water in it. The consistency seemed normal, but I thought it tasted odd. There was just a slight chemical like taste. I actually thought my dishwasher must not have left some detergent residue on my fork or something, but that was not the case. It's almost like a cleaner got sprayed on it, but this was not a strong taste at all. I did add a lot of celery seed to it before baking, which I have never done before.
Do you know if bad chicken gets overly slimy before cooked, what it would taste like, and if celery seed could have created a chemical like taste?
Thanks very much.
1 AnswerCooking & Recipes8 years agois 'intro to food science and human nutrition' going to be a hard class?
I'm taking it as an accelerated summer course (10 hours a week for five weeks.) I'm a little concerned that I will not do well. I have no knowledge of science, and very little of nutritional requirements. This course satisfy's the schools requirement for applied science, so I doubt it is a fluff course.
I am a first year non traditional student in my twenties. I am still getting used to having to do homework and study again, and I don't remember much from high school.
What do you think?
Thanks.

2 AnswersMedicine8 years agowhat is so great about a Vitamix compared to other blenders?
My blender was $100 and works very well. Does a Vitamix last forever or something. Is there some special benefit to them?
Thanks, I'm just curious seeing how they are so expensive.
And if anyone knows if there is something better about smoothies versus juiced fruits and vegetables, or vis versa it would be very nice of you to answer this other askers question (I posted an answer just to tell him that my cheaper blender works fine, but I don't know the actual answer to his question.) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;%E2%80%A6

9 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agoI know nothing about eggplant, and am not much of a cook. What simple thing can I do with it?
I have two eggplant, and don't have the slightest idea what to do with it, or even what eggplant is like. Do I peel it? How should I cook it? What does it taste like, and go well with? I really am not much of a cook, plus I am gluten and dairy free, so I'm looking for the simplest way that I might make something edible out of it. I don't even know if it needs to be cooked or not;.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
11 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agoStraight women, have you ever started really liking a guy only to find out that he is gay?
I am gay, and have recently met a lot of new people in college. They are interested in the same things I am, so we see each other often, but not outside of school. I hate that you can never really be completely out because new people don't just automatically know, and I don't feel right about making some big point to make sure everyone knows I'm gay when we aren't even close. I shouldn't have to. It is only a small part of me, and I hate making a point of it, but it seems every time I meet new people there is always at least one or two interested girls.
Right now there is this one girls who is so sweet. We barely know each other, but I get the impression that she has a HUGE crush on me. I hope that I'm wrong, and she just is so sweet. It would be amazing if she could already tell I'm gay, but I don't think that is the case. I've been friendly because that is how I am, and she has responded by getting overly friendly. Now I am afraid that she has gotten some ideas, and that she will feel let down when she finds out.
This always happens, except other girls have tended to get the hint when I wasn't pursuing them. I don't know with this girl though.
I have a hard time making friends with guys because they are guys, and I feel more self conscious around them since I want them to like me. But making friends with girls presents this issue at first. Sometimes it turns out they don't want to be my friend when they find out that's all we could be. Sometimes they even turn out to be homophobic. I'm sure this girl isn't, but I don't know what to do about her. I'm afraid of telling her now.
I've never figured out how to handle this well.
What is your take on it?
Thank you very much for any input.

2 AnswersSingles & Dating8 years agoCeliacs: do you share a kitchen with people who eat gluten?
If so, what methods do you use to keep from getting glutened by cross contamination? How often do you think you do get sick from this? Do you share dishes? Do you share a dishwasher?
3 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan8 years agohow have your experiences with roommates been?
I'm 28, and have just started back to college after dropping out and working for several years. I've only had roommates once, and I hated it. However their were several of them, and they spent all their free time sitting around doing drugs.
I just moved to an apartment near my campus for convenience, but it is expensive, and I am not able to work as much now. On one hand I think it might be nice to share the place, and it is large with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. But on the other hand I am not used to sharing. The entire place is set up with my stuff just how I like it. I even use the spare room as a workout room right now. Half the time I sleep on the couch rather than in my bed because the whole place is so comfortable to me it's almost like an extra large bedroom. I rarely have people over, and kind of like it that way. I do think though that it would be healthy for me to have more people around.
One thing that really concerns me about getting a roommate is that I can't eat gluten, and when you share a kitchen with someone who does they have to follow strict rules to prevent cross contamination. Most people who don't know about celiac don't understand how even the tinniest trace amount of gluten can make a celiac sick, and contribute to serious long term problems. They would not be able to share most dishes. They would never be able to use any wheat based flour or powders like pizza dough mix, and they would have to be very thorough about cleaning up after themselves in the kitchen. I feel like I would tell someone this and they would just think I'm being paranoid, and pretend to be careful about it.
This place is big. Money is a problem. I can always find a quiet place on campus if I need to. So I feel like it is something I need to do. I don't know anybody that could live here though. So finding a stranger I would get along with is another concern, especially because I am gay.
What I'm asking is what kinds of experiences, ups, and downs have you had with roommates? And do you have any suggestions on how to find a good one, and how to make things work?

1 AnswerLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender8 years agoWould you go to class this morning if you were me?
I've been up for 24 hours, and I only had four hours of sleep before that. I also did a lot of physical work yesterday, and right now I'm so tired I can barely think straight. Class starts in two and a half hours, and is two hours long. Then I have two and a half hours before my other class, which is an hour and fifteen minutes.
The problem is that it is only the second week of classes, and my morning class only allows three absences. After that I will loose a letter grade for each absence. My afternoon class will drop my letter grade by one after three as well, but won't drop it another until I've missed six classes.
For this reason I'm considering forcing myself to stay awake until after my morning class, and then skipping the afternoon one. Another reason I don't want to go though is that it is a small group just sitting around a table having a discussion. It will be so obvious how out of it I am! And if I don't go, I could get some sleep and go to the afternoon class.
I can't believe I am asking this here.
Just looking for opinions.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoHow healthy is this meal, and how might you modify it?
I can't eat gluten, dairy, or eggs, and I almost never eat meat so I am concerned about getting proper nutrition. Also I have found that many preservatives and processed foods make me feel like crap. One thing I've tried that seems to work well is this:
Brown rice pasta with flaked parsley, oregano, basil, turmeric powder and a bit of chopped garlic added to the water, a little olive oil and grape seed oil, a few tablespoons of garbanzo flour and a couple of coconut flour, a handful of crushed almonds, a handful of chopped broccoli, black pepper, garlic salt, and a few shakes of creme or tarter.
It doesn't taste all that great. Any suggestions for better flavor?
All of the ingredients I've added for some specific reason. I'm trying to create meals with anti-inflamatory power and complete proteins.
What do you think?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I really want to gain weight, but I have a very sensitive system.
