  • Why is my arm hurting?

I just went to a camp to learn how to be a Drum Major (they conduct marching bands), and I used my arms a lot - we conducted about six hours a day. During camp, my arms were a little sore, but I was still able to conduct fine. But now, I'm home, and I can barely get my left arm to move! I've tried conducting songs, and my right arm is fine, but my left arm just kills every time I try to conduct.

Does anyone know why, or how I can fix it?

  • MIDI to MP3 question?

    Hello!

I'm in a Marching Band, and I need to get a few of our songs onto a CD for practice. I have them on the computer, but they're in MIDI files and the MIDI files won't burn onto a CD. I tried to convert them online a couple times, but one time the computer kept registering the files as MIDI, and the other time the sound quality worsened drastically.

Can anyone help me out? (By the way, I use Windows Media Player and I'm not interested in downloading any software.)

  • Transposition Question?

Right now, I'm trying to convert music for Bb Trumpet/Clarinet into Trombone music, which is in the key of C and also in Bass Clef. But I'm getting confused with the time signature changes. Can someone please help me?

    If I had the notes:

    B

    C#

    D

    G

    F#

What would those be in Trombone music?

  • Transposition-Key signature question?

After you transpose a piece of music from G Clef to Bass Clef, do the key signature sharps/flats stay in their place, or do they move in accordance to the bass staff?

  • Why do these symbols appear on microsoft word docs?

    Hello!

I have Microsoft Word 2007, and I use it quite often. I have many docs. Whenever I open a Doc and look at it, if I go back the "Open" tab, I will see that a new document was created, with the title of document I just opened. But instead of it being a normal title, the first two letters are replaced with the symbols ~$. If I try to open the document, MS Word tells me it can not open it.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this? It's not urgent, but it's an irritating problem.

  • Broken clarinet / concert?

    Hi!

I have two clarinets: a wooden and a plastic, an intermediate and a beginner respectively. After I got my wooden one, I discovered a crack a month after (that was caused by my own carelessness). The wooden one can still play fine, it sounds great, and I have a concert tomorrow. Lately I've been playing with a beginner's barrel and upper section, and with an intermediate mouthpiece, lower section, and bell.

I want to know (because I don't have enough time to get my clarinet professionally repaired), am I able to use my fully wooden clarinet at the concert, even if there's a crack? It seems like the crack has gotten smaller in size, which I suppose is from lack of use.

  • Should I use a keyboard if I want to learn the piano?

I currently play the clarinet, and want to take up another instrument. I was struggling between the saxophone and piano, and chose the piano because it can play more than one melody at a time, and it's very different from a clarinet or a saxophone.

The thing is, I have no room to fit a piano in my house, and I couldn't afford it anyways. So, is it worth it to buy a keyboard, which is basically like a smaller, cheaper piano? If I learn the keyboard, would I instantly be able to approach a real piano and play it?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Help with characters?

In my own opinion, the characters are what really make a story, sometimes more than the plot. Some of my favorite instances of dynamic characters are in the movie Little Miss Sunshine, the television show Lost, and the book The Stand by Stephen King. In my own story I am writing, it seems I have a steady grasp on my characters, their personalities and their reactions, and so on. The only problem is: my protagonist is pretty empty. In most stories, I dislike the protagonist (unless the variety of characters is very low, in such books as The Road by Cormac McCarthy or any of Mitch Albom's books).

I understand that my protagonist needs to be the key to my story. He is the first person that everyone sees, and they need to connect. So far, I know that my protagonist has a fear of water, is a talented silversmith, and doesn't believe in fate. But in the beginning of the story, he is just an ordinary character and there's no real way to introduce these traits. I need more to develop my protagonist, like I did with all of my other range of characters, but I don't know how, exactly.

    Thanks in advance! :)

  • Help with Avast! Antivirus software?

Today, a weird window popped up while I was browsing the internet, one of those fake antivirus things. I don't know how it popped up, so I clicked on my Avast! balloon at the bottom of my screen. It said the infected count was 2. But is Avast doing anything to fix it? Are the files still harmful? When I looked at the infected file I realized it was a site I had visited to find sheet music. Help please?

  • Help with Microsoft Excel?

I'm doing a project for school, in which I interviewed both extroverted and introverted people to see how many gestures they use. I have a set of 22 numbers of gestures (one used 10, one used 24, etc) for extroverted people, and a set of 10 numbers for introverted people (one used two, one used four). I need to set up charts though: one that charts the number of extroverted gestures, one that charts the introverted gestures, one that charts them together, and one that shows the averages - but I have no idea how to work Microsoft Excel. I have the 2007 edition. Please, can someone help me out?

  • If a clarinet key is in F, what key is a flute in?

I've been asking some transposing questions, because I have to transpose a song for school. If the key of the clarinet music is in F (1 flat), what key would the flute be in?

Another question: The first note in the song is C, for the clarinet. Does this mean, for the flute, it would be Bb? And if the second note is Bb on the clarinet, would the second note be G# (or Ab)? And if the third note was Ab on the clarinet, would the second note for flute be F# (Gb)? And if the fourth note was F on the clarinet, would the fourth for flute be D# (Eb)?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Help with transposing clarinet -> flute?

I'm trying to transpose "I Got You (I feel Good)" for my school's pep band. Currently, I'm trying to go from Clarinet to Flute. But I've never transposed before, and I don't know how to do this. I've read other answers on here, but I don't know what "half steps" or "full steps" are. If someone could tell me how I would go about transposing this, that would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Question about writing themes ...?

    Hi, everyone!

I am an aspiring writer. I have self-published one children's book, and am currently in the midst of writing a novel, which I hope to find a publisher for.

I don't consider myself a mediocre writer; I believe that I'm pretty good at what I do - I just have trouble with incorporation themes into my work. I know what themes I want: religion vs science, destiny vs coincidence, faith vs skepticism, fate vs free will, and so on. But I just don't know how to make these themes an important part of my novel.

My only idea now is to give the characters certain beliefs (one believes in fate, the other in free will) and have them make up a foil, contrasting as they face tough decisions and situations throughout the story. I'm looking to build a character-driven novel, as I find that it is always the characters that attract the readers, not the plot or story. What are some other ways to incorporate these themes into my writing?

If you any of you have some good advice, or perhaps some links, I would really appreciate it! :)

    Thanks in advance!

  • I don't know how to solve this type of percentage problem?

My math teacher gave us a worksheet to review last year's work. It deals with percentages, which I forget how to do. The question is, "The original price of a jacket was $30. George increased the price by 10%. What is the new price of the jacket after the increase?"

You don't have to give me the answer, I just want to know how to format a question like this.

  • Attention DEAN KOONTZ readers!?

I am trying to find a scare-me-out-of-my-shorts terror/horror story for the Halloween season. I was told to try Dean Koontz, so I went on his website and looked at his horror books. I picked the six that looked interesting, and here they are:

    Eyes of Darkness

    ShadowFires

    Darkfall

    Winter Moon

    Hideaway

    The Bad Place

If you've read these books, could you tell me which one is the scariest? If not, could you recommend to me a book that will make me afraid of the dark? :D
