  • Ferdinand McCann?

My gg grandfather's name was Ferdinand Jay McCann. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland March 18, 1826. All I know through family history and and much research is that his mother was Spanish (from Cuba) and his father was supposedly originally from Kentucky. His mother died when he was six. In 1856 he married in Bowling Green, KY to Lucy W. Underwood, daughter of Congressman Warner Underwood. Ferdinand and Lucy moved to San Francisco, CA in 1848 where he was a lawyer and later he and Lucy lived in Santa Cruz, where for ten years before his death, Ferdinand served as superior court judge there. He and Lucy had nine children: one son was my ggrandfather, William Dougherty McCann; his son, my grandfather John Walter McCann, and his daughter, my mother Joan Player McCann. I have been trying very hard to find the name of my ggggrandmother who would be the Cuban mother of Ferdinand. I am also very interested in tracking down Ferdinand's father (McCann). Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Dog Walker Fees?

I live on the Peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. As an adjunct to my personal training business, I am starting to walk dogs as a part time business. I have a dog of my own, and would plan to take one to four (including my own) dog on hikes or sometimes trips to the beach where they can go off-leash. I will also walk a single dog if required. Please, anyone in this area (Palo Alto, Menlo Park) who does this for a living...how much is the proper rate to charge for this sort of thing? I've heard anywhere from 20-25 dollars per dog per hour. Does this sound correct? By the way, I am experienced with dogs...I'm not just doing this on a whim.

    Thank you for your input!

  • What kind of dog is this? Part II?

From what I understand anyone on Yahoo Answers should be able to gain access to this site and see the photo no problem. This is Tom, our beloved family dog. We adopted him from a rescue organization when he was 9 weeks old...he's now 4 years. What breed(s) is he? First person to guess gains 10 points.

  • Family Research-"Paget" "Player" New Zealand-Maori ancestry?

I have been searching through many databases to try to find a link to my Maori ancestry in New Zealand. My great-great grandmother was half-Maori. Her father's last name was Paget. He was originally from England. He married a full-blooded Maori woman (supposedly of royal blood) of the Te Arawa Tribe on the Coramundel Coast of N.Z. and they settled in Mercury Bay where they had my g-g-grandmother, Maria Paget. My ancestor Paget died on a Schooner named "Rapid" in 1863 btwn. Mercury Bay and Auckland. He had goldmines in Merc. Bay, which he left to my gg-grandmdother Maria. Maria later married my gg-grandfather, Richard Allen Player. They had six(?) children, my great-grandfather, Lionel Paget Player (other names I know are Audrey, Ivy and Rudolph(?) being one of them. He later moved to San Francisco, CA. I have two photos of Maria (VERY Maori looking) and Richard Allen Player with their children...any help appreciated...please respond only if you have info on these families thx

  • Question for Professional Hairdressers...?

I've been asked by several different hairdressers in my life if I am part native american because of my hair; it is very straight, won't hold a perm at all, is very fine but very thick because there is so much of it, even in my forties. If I am in the sun for any length of time, it highlights very easily and grows very quickly. As it happens, I am part Cherokee, Choctaw and Laponi Indian, although most people don't know until I tell them. The hairdressers who asked me about my hair had no idea, just wondered from working with my hair. What are characteristics of my hair that would make them ask that question? Btw, I have dark to medium blonde hair, depending on how much sun I've been exposed to (summer/winter, etc), not black or dark hair. Thank you for your input!

  • Do you think that having a large dog is good for home protection as well as walking late at night?

I am a single mom and have a four year old half pit bull, half german shepherd dog I've raised since he was a puppy. He is very sweet and has a loud bark, however I don't know if he would ever attack if he needed to. Does just having a big dog with a big bark intimidate people?
