  • Memory / Keepsake Box Padding?

I want to make a personalised keepsake / memory box for my little sister's christening. I have a great box I can use but I'd like to make it so it is slightly padded on at least the top. Would upholstery foam work for this, or is there something better I could use?

Also, how would I glue the product onto the box? It is a wooden box, if that helps. Also, how would I secure the fabric over it in a way that would be safe and permanent?

Please, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated as I've never done this specific thing before so I want to make sure I don't waste any time and money and potentially mess up!

    Thank you!

  • New York City art galleries, which is the best and why?

I'm planning to visit New York City in August this year and am really keen to visit some art galleries. One problem though: it's just me and a friend, and unfortunately that friend isn't at all interested in art.

Obviously, I don't want to make my friend visit every art gallery in NYC when she isn't going to enjoy it. And whilst I don't mind going off alone, that would kind of defy the idea of taking a trip together.

So, I guess my question is, if I can choose just ONE art gallery during my visit, which one should I go for and why?

As a guide, I'm interested in a wide variety of art, but particularly anything from the 1800's onwards is what I like most. Also, enjoy photography and sculpture, and anything a little out of the ordinary (without being just plain weird).

  • Film / Movie Essay Ideas...?

I graduated from university last year studying film studies and my friend challenged me to a bet that for £50 ($100) I would never write an essay again. So, I agreed. He gave me 12 months in which to write the essay so in my eyes, it's an easy bet, as I have no problem writing the essay, as I will gain £50 but also preventing myself losing £50 too.

So I have until May 31st to write the essay, and having taken a break since that time last year from writing essays, I finally feel ready to write one.

My only problem is coming up with a topic. I do want something which isn't too challenging but not so easy that I don't have to try. I'm interested mainly in modern films, and the ways things are represented in film.

I did my dissertation on Scorsese's, Allen's and Lee's representations of NYC for example.

Does anyone have any good ideas, or perhaps topics they themselves used for an essay at some point? I'd be really grateful! Thanks...

  • New Yorkers! Trying to remember names of some places I went to to eat - one near Union Sq, one 79th & Broadway

I went to NYC last Easter and there are two places I went to to eat that I want to recommend to people but I can't remember their names. They aren't restaurants, just little places...

    1. Number 1 was on 17 St, somewhere in between 2nd Av and Park Av. It was a little deli place (maybe Italian). They had a salad counter where you would select your salad leaves, then your five salad fillings and then a dressing and they would mix it all up and put it in a tub for you. It cost about $6.50. I believe it's name was something along the lines of S........& S........ - I used to pass it everyday when walking from Hotel 17, on 17th St in between 2nd and 3rd, walking towards Union Sq to get the subway.

    2. Number 2 was a place on one of the corners of 79th St and Broadway. It was pretty standard, sold pizza and other pretty standard food. They had amazing brownie style cakes which were made using Kit Kats and various other brands.

PLEASE HELP, as it's driving me crazy!

    Thank you!

  • Do you ever get frustrated in the Movies section...?

because most people (no disrespect) only ever ask questions about American, or English speaking movies? And when people recommend movies, they almost always are mainstream ones?

Not that I am professing to be an expert in foreign or independent cinema or anything, it's something I'd very much like to know more about.

Sometimes though, I just wish someone would ask an intelligent question that we can really get our teeth stuck into. And maybe, about a film that isn't that widely known.

    Am I making any sense?

  • Grand Canyon South Rim tour, departing from Las Vegas?

Hi, I know there's already been a ton of questions asked about this, but I've looked through them all and I'm still a little confused by the whole thing, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm going to Las Vegas from 29 Apr-2 May and would like to spend a day touring the Grand Canyon. From reading around, I know I'd like the tour to have the following things:

    1. Departs from Vegas, or transfer from Vegas hotel

    2. Helicopter

    3. Goes to the South Rim, NOT the West Rim

    4. Lands on the floor of the Canyon

Also, ideally I don't want to spend more than $300, which may or not be asking too much. I've managed to find several tours below this price but the problem is that tour companies do not specify whether they go to the West or South Rim. I can't call a company to ask as I live in the UK and it would be too costly to telephone. I'm a student and traveling on a tight budget, so if anyone could offer any advice I really would be grateful.

Thank you for your help, in advance!

  • Hostel Room - 1 bed, 2 people permitted?

Hi, I was wondering whether if I booked a single room for 1 person, would 2 people be permitted to stay? A friend and I are going travelling and it might cut costs to book a single bed room instead of a twin, as I have a sleeping bag and air bed which would be more than comfortable for me to sleep on. I'm just not sure if this is allowed. Thank you.

  • Niagara Falls, Canada in early April?

    Hi,

I'm going to be in Niagara Falls, ON from 03 April 2007 - 05 April 2007 as part of a trip all around America. Unfortunately I've noticed that the Maid of the Mist tour does not usually run until late April.

I was wondering a few things:

    1) Are there any other boat tours that do run in early April?

    2) I was thinking of booking the Canadian Rainbow tour, which would include the Journey Behind The Falls - is this worth it?

    3) Any other recommendations for things to do in Niagara Falls at the time I'll be visiting?

Any advice greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  • Staplerfahrer Klaus - German Forklift Safety Video - Subtitled Version?

There is a short German film which goes by the name 'Staplerfahrer Klaus' which is basically a tongue-in-cheek look at forklift safety, and it's very funny. I watched it in a film class at uni, and it had subtitled and have since been looking everywhere to find a subtitled version, but all the ones online aren't subtitled! I've checked Youtube and download sites but don't really know where else to look. It's funny without subtitles, but so much funnier with them! Thanks!
