Which is the residue in this reaction? What's the correct name of the second product?
sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) + hydrochloric acid (HCl) --> sodium chloride (NaCl) + carbonic acid? (H2CO3)
The numbers written above should be read as subscripts.
Basically, I mixed the NaHCO3 with enough HCl to dissolve it. The instructions said to add 3 M HCl one drop at a time (if that helps). Then the liquid was heated until no liquid remained in the test tube, just a white powder - the residue. Is the residue NaCl or H2CO3? Is H2CO3 what I was supposed to get from the two reactants? I know you get NaCl and something else since it's a double replacement reaction.
