  • Youtube channels on outdoors?

So I am an avid hunter, fisher, and trapper. I am getting especially good at trapping. Not being arrogant, but I have just been improving greatly at it. I was listening to a podcast on wolfernation.com, and it was about being an entrepreneur trapper. I am from Pennsylvania, and they talked specifically about my state. There are 30 thousand registered trappers in Pa, but can you name one? Most cases no unless it's your family. So he challenged the listener to get their name out, and become the known "Pennsylvania Trapper". I was very intrigued. I don't own a trapping business, at least not yet, but I made a youtube channel and am going to make informational videos to promote my name. There are a lot of trapping videos by recognized names, but they are mostly out west. Almost all the videos have thousands of views so the interest is there. My real question is if this idea is reasonable. I am only 16 almost 17 so I am afraid people won't respect me and my information. I do honestly know what I am talking about and am hoping that by showing my catches, that people will see that. Will just making the videos with the right keywords and tags be enough to start getting a fair amount of views? Also, any hints you can give me to get my name started will be greatly appreciated. I forgot to mention, I would like to make money or get discounted or free merchandise from trapping supply places. If I just promoted certain brands, maybe companies would do this for me. There is also the possibility to make a little bit of money from partnering with youtube to get ads placed on my videos if I can get a fair amount of views.

By the way, my channel name is brandonandjaketrapping. I only have 1 video now just explaining what I plan to show on my channel. By the end of this week I should have many more up. If you could look me up and maybe subscribe that would be great. Thanks.

One last thing, I know this is the hunting section, but I have never gotten a bad answer here and if I go to the tech sections, I am afraid I will get more of this. Plus they might not even know what trapping is. I have faith in the hunting section!

  • Coyotes and deer carcasses? Trapping?

A hunter killed a deer and (shame on him) left the front shoulders in with the hide and dumped it on the land I'm trapping. I have dirt hole and flat sets out in the general area. Unfortunately we had freezing rain last night, and it washed the scent off my trap sets. The coyotes came right by them, as the tracks in the snow told the story, but had little interest. They drug the hide and shoulders into a place with two main access points to the remaining meat. I bedded two traps in those points. If the shoulders have meat left, will the coyotes revisit the deer soon? And yes I know about setting right over carcasses and bird of prey catches but the bait is covered from above. In general how long will it be til they revisit the carcass? It is supposed to be -5 degrees tonight so they should be moving well, and looking for food to stay warm. I have kept close tabs on the 12 coyotes we have been hearing/seeing, and they are covering a relatively small range. ( maybe 3 square miles) Thanks

  • What do I need to start trapping?

I am somewhat of a rookie to trapping. I trapped last year when we had a cold spell that made temperatures never reach double digits for 2 weeks. I thought the furs would be heavy so it was worth a try. I plan to trap mainly for fox, coyote and raccoon. I already have a variety of foothold traps and could get 220 conibears from work. I will be ordering all other supplies from fntpost.com. I would like to know what lures, urines, baits, bottles and things like that I will need to catch the game mentioned. Amounts would be helpful as well. This being said I will be trapping for about a month and a half two months total. Probably a little in the middle part of November, all of December and February is still a possibility. I know time of year changes what baits are used. I will be running about 30 traps. Thanks. I will gladly answer any other questions in the "more details".

  • Question about coyote bounty?

I would like to hunt coyotes but the pelts aren't worth much, and my dad won't let me kill them without good reason. I know the damage they can do to a deer population and there are getting to be a lot of them around. A few weeks ago, my neighbor told my dad and I that there was a bounty out on them. Can anyone give me information on this?

Here is some information that should help:

I live in Adams County, PA.

Coyotes are in season 24/7/365 with a few minor exceptions.

Any answers on this will be appreciated. Please, I don't want to hear about killing an animal I'm not going to eat. I eat deer and one coyote can kill up to 30 deer in a year and though unlikely, I would like to prevent this. Sorry for writing an entire story. Thanks in advance.

  • Legality issue i was wondering about?

Every so often when I get off of school for a while, I go out on scouts/camping trips for 3-5 days at a time on PA state forest land. I pack well and this march it snowed 15 inches in the middle of my trip. I didn't travel as I had planned that day and to make a long story short, I ran out of food. When on my trips, I always carry a bow or rifle shotgun combo. Small game was out of season at the time but could I have killed as a survival situation being it was only 1 day without food? I wasn't lost but I was somewhat stranded. I would like definative proof, but all answers are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Junior hunting license in PA?

I am 16 and my birthday is March 20th, 1997. Can I legally hunt by myself since I am sixteen and have been doing it for two years anyhow, and will I be able to get a junior license for the next license year?

  • Is hunting with an airgun legal in PA?

The game would be coyotes and before y'all jump all over me, this is a curiosity question and I don't plan on doing it. I have a 22-250 for a reason and thats what I actually use. I don't need really detailed restrictions just the basic laws on it.

    Thanks.

  • How to build my own take down bow?

I want to make a wooden take down bow.

I have all types of shop equipment to use, both metal and wood. I can get any wood, supplies, etc that I need. I want it to take down to 30 inches or less. I can back it and recurve it if that is necessary. If anyone can give me detailed directions or send me to a good site that would be great. Please though, it has to be a takedown. Thanks in advance.

  • Do you think that there could still be mountain lions in PA?

I know the game commission says that they are extinct and for a long time but my grandfather saw them twice in the 70s. I already believe that they are here. I am asking this more as a discussion board. I have never seen one myself, although I do spend tons of time in the woods. If you do think they are still here where do you think they are most likely to be at?

  • backpack frame question?

I know this isn't the right category but far more people answer faster here in the hunting section and I would like to make the frame soon.

I want to make a fairly large pack frame that could hold a bag or yukon tarp pack, or transport deer and fire wood, later this year I would also like to be able to transport my traps in/on it. I want to know how to make one because the ones I have seen aren't what I am looking for, or are far to expensive for me. I was looking to use either wood or PVC, but if you can give me good plans for a metal one I am a pretty good welder, and could do that too. Thanks.

  • How to get a PA trappers ID number?

I read you can get a number to mark your traps with from the game commission, but it doesn't say how that I can find. I want to get pretty serious with trapping but am on a budget. The only thing I want to buy is more traps, and urine. This means I am making my own trap tags which will be easier if I just have to punch in numbers. Any bait recipes or ways to make trapping equipment would be greatly appreciated as well. I have a metal fabrication class that I can do whatever I want in and have the equipment to do almost anything. (forge, welders, grinders, saws, plasma cutters, and I also have access to woodworking equipment) Thanks!!

  • Where to get traps at a good price?

I am looking for cheap but somewhat decent quality traps( mostly conibears, although any foothold suggestions are welcome too) I have trapped a little and caught a few coons and foxes and one coyote in foot holds. I have 20 footholds. I want to get a little more serious since fur prices are going back up but incase things don't work out, I don't want to wrap up a lot of money in it. I want to know about 110s for mink and muskrat, but would also like a few for catching coons in the smallest possible size( weight purposes). Also if you know is it possible to catch coon in a 120 magnum. I really don't want a coon to suffer but if it happens occasionally I don't mind. Thanks.

Also, I really don't want to go over 6-7 dollars each.

  • Outdoor gps question?

I would like to make my trapline longer this year and want to be able to mark up to 200 traps because I can't remember where the all are. If the GPS can put me within a few yards of it I can find them. I would also like to be able to set up routes. The catch is that I only want to spend around 150 dollars. Thanks

  • Turkey hunting question?

I live in south central PA and am in the in-between of deer and small game season, and fishing and spring turkey. I am dying. My question is when will turkeys start gobbling and breaking up the flocks. I know the season isn't until the end of April, but please I need to get back in the woods with a purpose. Any turkey hunting/calling tips would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks in advance.

  • What to do in the woods tomorrow?

I live at the base of a basically endless forest in PA. I have a day to kill tomorrow and plan on leaving early in the morning on an all day walk. Any suggestions on things to do? I will hunt anything I feel is reasonable, and I also trap. I figured I would do some scouting and am open to try anything. I enjoy survival practice too, so I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

  • Some coyote and turkey scouting/hunting tips?

I plan on leaving around 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. There is a few inches of snow on some hills, and none on others so tracks can be iffy. I am going to take my .22 or .223 with me incase I find a coyote but it is more of a scouting trip. I will be in PA's appalachian mountains forest. Turkey season is still a ways off, but it is about time to start scouting. I have no idea how to scout for either and would like some tips on how to hunt them and scout them.

And no, I am not just some rookie. I spend more time hunting than a lot of other people. I am experienced with hunting deer and small game and hunt turkeys a little, but I am not great at it. Thanks.

  • Backpacking and scouting questions?

I live about 400 yards from about 85,000 acres of state forest land. I hike up in about 3 miles from my home and have a pretty good idea of how to navigate through the woods, and know this sounds bad, but I won't get lost. I have an iphone that tells me exactly where i am at and reads directions to the nearest road. I want to scout for some spring turkey and coyote hunting. What all should I pack for a 1 or 2 night trip maybe making a more permanent shelter up their? Another question and I know this is the wrong section but can anyone tell me how to scout for coyotes, I already know how to scout turkeys? Thanks. 10 point for the best answer.

What, in inches, do the following mean?

    Light snow accumulation

    Moderate snow accumulation

    Heavy snow accumulation

I know what accumulation means I want to know how much snow each means.

  • Why can animals drink straight from a stream, but people can't?

I know that streams can have ecoli and other bacteria but are deer and other animals immune? I know this isn't really a hunting question but I thought I had the best chance of getting a good answer from fellow hunters.
