I have been showing dogs for 30 years. I have had Shelties, Keeshonden, GSD, Whippets, and a Crested, as well as handled Afghans and Salukis. I also have taught obedience classes for 25 years and occasionaly teach agility. I also have an Icelandic horse!

  • Does anybody here know how to READ??

Do people here KNOW that there are books written on pretty much ANY subject pertaining to dogs?

Books about breeding, genetics, dog behavior, obedience and agility training, health and emergency care, dog shows, EVEN dog names!

Pick up a BOOK and LEARN something BEFORE you decide to buy a Whateverdoodle or breed brother/sister/sire/dam!!!

  • Morally wrong?

Is it morally wrong to have a dog and 4 kids without having the money to care for their medical needs? Especially when this person dictates morals to others? I say it is, at best, irresponsible. What do you think?

  • Mandatory spay/neuter?

Why is it so terrible not to S/N your dogs? There are many health benefits to leaving them natural as well as altered.

If I confine my dogs and am responsible, why should I have to S/N? Is it not better to go after the people who are the problem? The problem is the ones who let their animals make their own breeding decisions out on the street and contibute to the animal population problem with yet another litter of whatever Xs. The problem is the ones who let their animals roam to possibly attack, breed, or be an annoyance. The problem is the ones who dump their dog at the shelter and run out to get another because they are either to stupid or lazy to handle their dog.

Why would anyone think the irresponsible people or the thugs will be rushing in to comply with MS/N laws? The irresponsible don't care and thugs aren't concerned if they are within the law.

Leave my dogs alone and ENFORCE leash laws with court appearances and big fines. That will solve the problems.

  • No puppy mills or backyard breeders?

To me a puppy mill is a 'breeder' that abuses or leaves their stock in filth. Most Commercial breeders do not fall into this catagory and take good care of their breeding stock.

If there were no commercial or backyard breeders, where ever would the pet buying public get their purebred puppies? Show breeders cannot possibly supply the demand for PB puppies. If laws make breeding extremely hard, they will get their puppies somewhere. One has only to look at the terrible anti-breeder laws in California to see. Make breeding hard and then wonder why they are dealing with sickly Mexican puppies being smuggled in.

Better a backyard or commercial breeder than a very questionable source in a country where abuse laws are not enforced, if they exist at all.

And no, not everyone wants a crossbreed from a shelter, and most are crosses. Shelter dogs are mostly from owner retention problems, and people letting their dogs roam and breed indiscriminately, not purebred breeders.
