Stranded Brit living in Canada.

  • How do you deal with high humidity?

I love warm weather, especially after the long Canadian winter but I find it very difficult to deal with humid weather. I hate going out of the front door and finding myself with soaking wet armpits, back and dripping neckline before I get to the end of the road.

Any suggestions? (Apart from stay inside in my gorgeously cool Air Conditioned house.......)

  • Do flip flips make your toes hurt?

I'm beginning to think that I'm the only person in Canada who finds plastic flip flops insanely uncomfortable. I'm not sure whether it's the shape of my feet that make them go all skoo-whiff (I end up walking with my heels touching the ground!), or my toes are fixed to my feet too tight making the plastic thong between them really, really hurt.

Am I the only one this happens to? It's most annoying as they're not only cheaper than 'proper' sandals, they're much more suitable to this hot weather!

  • Have you give your pet an 'original' names?

At one time I had two budgies (like little tiny brightly coloured parrots), who I called Fish and Chips, which at the time seemed cute names.

The only problem came when Chips died (electrocuted himself when he got stuck under the freezer! I didn't find him until we moved house and shifted the freezer - there he was stuck to the plug socket, skeletonised! I was mortified!). Anyway, I was left with a bird called 'Fish'! People who didn't know he was one of a pair, thought I was nuts!

I just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences, or had given their pets weird names.

  • Have you got/had High Blood Pressure?

I've got high blood pressure (150+/99!!!) and the doc's put me on medication to lower it.

How low is it safe for it to drop? I know high blood pressure is known as 'The Silent Killer' because you can't feel the damage it's doing to your heart, but how low is 'Low Blood Pressure'???

(I'm still alive at the moment as it's hovering at a healthy 117/78!!!! Daft thing is, I feel exactly the same as I did when it was sky high! But that's why they call it 'The Silent Killer' I suppose!)

  • How do you cope with road rage idiots?

I accidentally pulled out in front of a male chauvinist driver. Even though there was plenty of room between us, he was obviously in a hurry and maybe he thought I was going to slow him down. He made a great show of flashing his lights and beeping his horn and even though I put my hand up as an apology, he proceeded to follow me home.

When I realised he wasn't going to leave me alone, I went straight past my house and continued on round both mine and the next housing estate, with him almost bumper to bumper. Eventually, I led him right across town and parked outside the Police Station. He pulled in behind me and for a moment I thought he was going to get out of his car, but a couple of police cars pulled into the spaces next to me. The bloke reversed out of his space and sped off!

I won't pretend that it didn't rattle me, because it did.

Have any of you had a similar experience?

How did you cope with it?

  • How many times have you changed the colour of your hair?

How many times have you changed the colour of your hair, and what colour/colours did you use?

I've had my hair 'tinted' once in my life and nobody noticed! So I never bothered again.... Plus the fact that I'm too scared to now I'm old (and grey!).

  • Bird with a song that sounds like a spring twanging?

I was walking the other day and heard a bird singing just like the sound of a big metal spring being 'twanged'. Sort of Twawawawawwawaaaaaaaang. Of course it could've been a bloke with a spring going 'twawawawaaaaaang' just to fool me because he knew I was an ignorant Brit, new to Ontario! Can anybody help? I didn't see the bird so have no idea what it looked like,

  • Have you ever taken Ritalin?

I taught children on Ritalin (the miracle concentration drug) way back in the 1980's, and often wonder if it has affected them in their adult lives. It certainly worked in school at the time, but back then there was no clear studies of how it would affect their bodies in adulthood.

Now, I read of adults taking Ritalin to help their concentration.

Has anybody taken the drug at any time during their lives? Has it given you a better or worse quality of life?

  • Ginkgo Biloba?

I've been reading through the answers given on a couple of questions in the health section, and Gikgo Biloba has come up loads of times. I've never heard of it. Can you tell me what it can be used for? Also, is it pill or potion?

  • The guys who stand on boxes covered in gold or silver?

The mime guys, they are my heroes for standing there so still (until they leap out at you.)

BUT, how do they go to the loo? I've never seen one slope off into the bushes or anything!

  • Favourite bread?

There are so many different bread types, it would be great to see how many types you lot prefer. I love the big baps with cheese and onion mixed in and melted over the top. A ton of butter (my poor heart) and slice of ham and tomato as a filling.

What about you lot? Favourite bread? Favourite filling?

  • Best way of cleaning eye glasses?

I'm forever getting smudges or gunk on my glasses, I've tried 'magic dot' and it was OK, but I try and wash them with soapy water once a day (but rarely remember!). What do you think is the best way of cleaning your glasses?
