  • is this philadelphus (mock orange) shrub dying of old age or what ?

I have a philadelphus shrub aka a mock orange, that is very old and used to be gorgeous when flowering in june. A mountain of white blossoms so fragrant they could be sensed along the entire block. It was a community landmark.

For past 8-10 years this shrub has been dying. It has no disease or blight. Symptoms? All leaves are tiny, about half normal size. Flowers are thin & scarce along ratty branches. Some branches die outright each year & there is not enough new growth.

I've tried everything. Shrub fertilizer had no effect, although it greatly encouraged all nearby shrubs in planting.

I've always pruned all dead, dying & older branches down to the crown the way you're supposed to do.

This shrub is at least 50 years old. It might be as old as 80 years. We have photos from 1950s showing it flourishing. Is it just dying of old age ?

  • Internet explorer 7 & explorer 6 keep crashing?

We are 2 friends with separate comps. One has IE 6, the other has IE 7. Both have crashed repeatedly since October. Problem seems to be related to add-ons. Reportedly, problem is widespread.

The official suggestion from microsoft is to "disable all 3rd party browser extensions." Problem is, this takes down all add-ons & plug-ins and there are some we like and want to continue using.

The only thing I can think of is to leave 3rd party browser extensions enabled and then to disable all individual add-ons except one, by hand. Then see if that one is causing the problem. If not, re-enable one more and see. And so on. Eventually this should identify the add-on or add-ons that cause the problem.

This procedure is very tedious. Does anyone have any other suggestions. All would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Would windows xp restore to a date one week ago using system restore and get back all deleted files?

Yesterday deleted temporary files, offline content, settings, cookies, history. Deleted both autocomplete settings. From my computer, did disk cleanup. Identified & deleted 2 extra useless icons from desktop. Finally, emptied all these old files out of recycle bin. Believed everything was eradicated.

But theoretical question persists. If I did a system restore to date 3 days ago, would all the stuff return? This would mean the system has a deeper level of storage that most people don't know about.

  • Can I uninstall McAfee security bundle while not connected to the internet?

When I go to control panel/add & remove programs, the only McAfee thing present is called McAfee Uninstaller. It looks like a no-brainer.

But they say McAfee has up to 300 registers that have to be unchecked by hand. Would you have advice how to do this.

Do I have to open the hidden files?

Do I have to be in Safe Mode since internet connection will not be operating?

Also have Windows Defender on board. Is this easy to uninstall? And how to do?

    Any other advice about uninstall?
