  • Where to live in Seattle?

Hubby may be transferred to Seattle. Would like to know where the safest neighborhoods are. We have a 4-month old baby and I have ZERO interest in tolerating sketchy neighborhoods, noise or crime. We also have a dog and would like to be near a park if possible. We'll probably rent to start out and I'd like to stay around $1200/month or lower for a 2-BR. Hubby would be working downtown... we could live in 'burbs if the commute is not soul-crushing or if there is good mass transit. Any thoughts are welcome.... thanks!

  • Monstrous sister-in-law?

My husband's sister is a nasty, miserable c**t. Most recently we were all visiting my husband's parents' house in late August, and we ended up cutting our visit short because of her (and it is a 2-day drive for us!) She completely ruined my husband's birthday by screaming at us because we helped my father-in-law set up his laptop computer and improved their internet reception and installed antivirus software. It doesn't take much talent to do these things, but she said that because we do not have engineering or computer science degrees that we were incapable of doing it correctly. Then she took back my husband's birthday gift (how tacky). Last summer she screamed at us (again at in-law's house) for making too much noise at 8 AM because we were getting ready to take our dog for a walk and we woke up her and her husband (who she is now divorcing). Also during her hissy fit she accused me and my husband of "faking compassion for her" and basically called us insincere and phony. I have always tried to be nice to her, but she doesn;t make it easy. This b***ch had been calling and emailing me asking for dating advice because she found some new guy to date. Since she's still married I felt awkward about it, but gave her honest and sincere advice. This spring she asked me to help her with immigration and other job-related issues since she is not a US citizen and is here on a work visa and her company was going to lay her off. I spent HOURS on the phone with immigration trying to get info and help her out. She also calls my husband to help her with work projects... so you can see we are sooooooo phony to her! After her latest blow up a few weeks ago, she calls last night crying wanting personal advice and dumping all her problems on my husband and NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED for her conduct on his birthday!!! I refused to speak to her. She does this all the time, treats people like crap then expects them to just magically want to help her out. And she also tries to "make up" for things by buying people expensive crap that she can't even afford!!! Sorry for the rant.... but we will have to see this vicious shrew in November and I told my husband that I will be polite to her for HIS sake and to avoid creating tension for everyone else, but that I wanted nothing to do with her otherwise Meanwhile my mother-in-law is so stupid.... she just makes excuses for her daughter and says that we have to be "nice" to her because she has so much stress in her life. Screw that! She's not the only one in the world with problems.... Does anyone else have in-laws that they absolutely despise???? How do you deal with them during family gatherings? I don't want to be a miserable c**t like her, but she needs to know that there is a price to pay for her actions.

  • Allergic to Canidae???

Has anyone found their dog to be allergic to Canidae? I thought it was supposed to be great food, but since my Golden has been on it she has been scratching a lot and biting and licking her paws and legs. A few weeks ago the vet put her on Benadryl b/c he thought it was seasonal allergies.... but it doesn't seem to be working. We are going back to vet later this week.

Raw food advocates need not waste energy typing that I should put her on BARF.... we are planning a family and I am not having a dog that eats raw meat be around a baby.

  • 2007 Honda CR-V vs. 2007 Toyota RAV4?

Can anyone offer an educated opinion on whether they prefer the newest CR-V or RAV4? My husband and I are trying to decide and are having a difficult time as they are very similar. Please only comment if you have info about the BASE models in the 2007 model year. Please do not suggest any other small SUV or wagon (i.e. we are not interested in a Subaru, Volkswagen Passat, Ford Escape, etc.). If you own either of these, what do you like/dislike about it? Would you recommend it? Thanks!

  • People who are preoccupied with celebrities are either.....?

    A) Pathetic losers who need to do something meaningful with their own empty lives, OR

    B) Shallow morons who whose brains cannot deal with REAL news like what is going on in the REAL world, other than what Paris Hilton ate for lunch today

So is it A or B?

  • Experience w/ Hip Dysplasia or osteonecrosis?

Just took my 8-month old Golden Ret. pup to vet for problem with rear right leg. Since last Thursday has shown some bunny-hopping, stiffness in that leg, and occasionally the leg will fall out from under her on slippery surfaces or on stairs.

Vet wanted to hold off on x-rays. He said that if it is HD it will show up soon in the left leg. Otherwise he thinks it is some trauma she got, probably while playing (worst case scenario would be osteonecrosis where a portion of the bone starts to die). Instructions were no playing with other dogs and short leashed walks.... if it gets worse or does not improve after 2 weeks call him and we'll go from there.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

  • What to do in Niagara area for Labor Day?

My husband and I will be visiting his parents in Niagara-on-the-Lake over Labor Day weekend (or Labour Day for you Canadians!). I feel like we have done everything; wineries, Old Town, the Falls, Butterfly Garden, Fort George. What else is there to do? Also, we are bringing our Golden Retriever puppy, so if there is anything "pet-friendly" I would love to know about it.

We are not interested in the casinos, going to the US side (we are from Philadelphia), or Toronto.

    Thanks!

  • Anybody's puppy on Nutro Ultra Large Breed kibble?

If so, how is your puppy doing on it? I have switched my pup from Iams Smart Puppy (yucky chicken by-product meal) to Nutro Ultra Large Breed (good ingredients) and her stools have gotten really big and soft. I did the switch over the course of a week, so it's not like I just suddenly changed it.... so it should not have upset her tummy. Just was curious as to how other pups do on this food. Thanks!

  • Imus being held accountable, but who else thinks Sharpton is a hypocrite?

Back in the day (almost 20 years ago) Al Sharpton rushed to the defense of Tawana Brawley who had CLAIMED she was kidnapped, raped and abused by 6 white men. Her claims were found to be completely false, but during the investigation, Sharpton and Brawley's attorneys intentionally, falsely and publicly called NY Prosecutor Steve Pagones a racist and named him as one of Brawley's rapists.

In 1998, Pagones won a civil suit he brought against Sharpton and Brawley's attorney's. To this day Sharpton has NEVER APOLOGIZED and has not paid a cent of the civil penalty.

AL SHARPTON, DON'T SAY ANOTHER F#$%ING WORD TO ANYONE ABOUT DISRESPECTING OTHERS! Clean your own house before criticizing how other's keep theirs!

  • Recommendations for Main Line Philadelphia restaurants?

My husband and I are moving to Radnor next month. Can anyone recommend a nice neighborhood restaurant on the Main Line? We are not looking for some place snooty and expensive. Just a decent place with good food at reasonable prices where we can go a few times a month. We are open in terms of cuisine (except for Indian).

    Thanks!

  • Decent neighborhoods in Philly???

My husband has a job offer in Philadelphia. We have only visited there once and do not know much about it. Does anyone know of safe, decent neighborhoods where we could rent an apartment for a year before buying? Would prefer to be in the city or near the commuter rail.
