  • Conveter Cord from Green Sound Cord to Red/White Sound Cable?

    I bought these speakers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025VKUQQ/ref=oh...

    For this record player:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025VKUQQ/ref=oh...

But there is no space in the speakers for me to run the red and white audio output cables that come out of the record player. There's only a green-tipped cord that comes out, as if you would be sticking it into a computer. Is there an adapter I can use to reconcile these two?

  • MLA In Text Citation Question?

I know that it's proper when writing an MLA-formatted paper to cite an author as follows:

"Author X argues that the madness in Hamlet is all part of an elaborate con (161)"

As opposed to putting the author's name in the parentheses, one would put the page number in, insofar as you've already cited the author in the sentence.

My question, however, is what if you have an author that you cite in the sentence but do not have the page number for (because the article is online, without page numbers), what would you put in parentheses?

  • Macbook Pro 13 Inch Battery Question?

Not that this is a big deal, since I love my Macbook, but I have two battery related questions:

    1. The time left on a battery seems to be changing rather rapidly. Sometimes it says 5:05, then it'll say 9:05, then it'll go down to 6:30. I figured it's the Mac adapting to the changes in my programs (i.e. if you keep running this program, that's how long your battery will last), but I wasn't sure.

    2. One evening I charged the battery and it maxed out. I then only ended up using it for a little bit, draining the battery to 95 percent. I plugged the laptop back into the charger and the battery said that it was fully charged, but it was at 95 percent. Contradiction? No?

    Macs are amazing.

  • Can someone please give me a compelling rational reason for abortion?

Having heard many bad arguments for abortion, I'd like to see if anyone in this online community can muster up a defense for abortion. My position is, obviously, that abortion is wrong. The child is a human life, and killing a defenseless human life is immoral, something we can obviously agree to. Moreover, the Law of Biogenesis states that animals can only produce certain offspring: their own kind, i.e. turtles will only produce turtles. Thus the idea that the fetus isn’t human is nonsensical because human parents can only produce human offspring. Thus the fetus must be human; humans don’t produce a non-human thing that somehow morphs into a human at birth. With that my position in mind, I'm going to pre-empt some arguments I can already hear coming:

    1. "You aren't a woman, you can't know the circumstances"- Sure, I may not be able to physically experience pregnancy, but that has nothing to do with my capability to distinguish between moral rights and wrongs. Second, this is not a response to my position, merely a personal (ad hominem) attack.

    2. "Just because you have some right-wing Christian agenda doesn't mean it should be enforced on everyone else."- Again, another ad hominem attack that says nothing about the quality of my argument. Secondly, however, if I'm not allowed to "enforce" my beliefs (which I'm hardly doing, nor are my beliefs that off the chart-murder is regarded as a universal wrong) upon others, then how come the belief that "you shouldn't enforce beliefs" is enforced upon me? That seems to be a self-violating standard. Also, I'm a libertarian. Please don't pigeonhole me.

    3. "It's the woman's choice."-What about the choice of the unborn baby? Also, when choice and human life come into conflict, one always errs on the side of life. Otherwise, we would have a crapload of human rights abuses justified because we wanted someone to have "the right to choose."

    4. "We shouldn't bring unwanted/someone in an impoverished situation into the world." This assumes that a) wantedness and b) economic status are measures of human life. Which we all know aren't true. This also applies to the argument that the fetus isn’t fully developed (should we kill deformed people?) and the argument that the fetus is “dependent” on the mother justifies abortion (should we kill diabetics? They’re dependent upon insulin).

    5. Finally, the case will be made that cases of rape and when the baby threatens the mother's life justify abortion. However, the rape argument is nonsensical because 1) most victims of rape keep the baby anyways (because they themselves are aware that the last thing devastating psychological trauma should be treated with is more psychological trauma, a side effect experienced by many women, even those who ardently believe in abortion) and 2) rape cases make up less than one percent of all abortions. If we allow that one exemption, as famous feminist Gloria Steinam once said, "[doing so will] force women to lie." Less than one percent doesn't justify the 99 percent of murders occurring. The cases when the baby threatens the life of the mother are extraordinarily rare and, again, do not justify a mass extermination of human life.

So, with all of these in mind, I'm curious to see if a good argument for abortion exists. Dazzle me.

  • Assassin's Creed II: Really annoying part question?

I'm at the point in Assassin's Creed II where the "bleeding over" effect has hit Desmond and he is walking through Acre again as Altair. I'm chasing this guy and I'm told to climb up this tall tower to get to a viewpoint. When I get halfway up, I'm at this small balcony. In order to get up, I have to get on this post protruding from the tower. When I try to reach it, I am not allowed to. I climb up this door that is literally two inches below it, but when I try to tell the Assassin to go he will not. Help?

  • How to get rid of/prevent 'Anti-Spyware' programs like Antivirus Pro/Windows Police Pro?

So, I have a Windows *Beethoven's Fifth plays in the background* and I have, for the third time, experienced one of the annoying rogue "Anti-Spyware" programs; this one was called Windows Police Pro. I got rid of it fine enough, but it was arduous and frankly it seems like there's an easier way. I know those viruses usually come from visiting certain web pages, but while I browse frequently I only visit a few sites and all of them are secure. So, my two questions are this:

    1. How are these rogue viruses prevented?

    2. What programs can I get to delete them easily instead of having to spend hours trying to locate the virus, stop it, and then delete it?*

*I want a program that is free and actually deletes the viruses. I don't want any stupid trial program that only scans the viruses for you and when you actually want it to delete them you have to buy the whole program.

  • iTunes problem: Can't open library?

Ok, so I'm trying to access my iTunes library on my computer and before the library even comes up, Microsoft (in their gay "we don't give a crap about customer service" mood) says that iTunes isn't "responding," i.e. Windows sucks. Now I can't get to my music. Can anyone help me?

  • Where is "Add/Remove" programs on Windows Vista?

I'm trying to find unnecessary programs on my laptop and I need to find a section that shows what all of my programs are and how I could get rid of them, like the "Add/Remove Programs" section of the Control Panel on Windows XP.

Specifically, I'm trying to get rid of the sidebar that appears every time the computer is started up (with the calendar, clock, news, etc...). Any help?

  • How to get rid of a pain in the butt virus known as "Advanced Virus Remover?"?

So this jerk-off of a program called "Advanced Virus Remover" went ahead and installed itself on my computer and it's obviously a virus, so I've been trying to delete it. However, anytime I try to delete it it says that the program is "active' and then won't let me delete it. I tried to pull up my task manager to stop the program from running, but the clever jerk-off program disabled my task manager. Any ideas as to how to get rid of it?

  • Is "screenlooking" on a multiplayer console game cheating?

When playing a multiplayer game on a game console (say an Xbox 360), I personally find it cheating when you are playing with multiple people on one TV and another player looks at another's screen to anticipate their path or find out where they are. Many agree with me; a few have dissented. I'm looking for a good consensus on this matter. Any help?

  • How to get an MP3 from the internet?

I have access to a download of a certain song, but when I click to download it a different web page comes up with the song on it in quicktime form. I have no idea how to get the song into either my iTunes or my downloads file. When I click to try to get it into my documents, it just goes into my documents as a link to an internet page, not an MP3 file. Any help?

  • I'd like to know the logic behind this "Best Picture" argument?

Ok, I personally think that "The Dark Knight" should be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. When I brought this up to someone, they stated "It's not really 'Best Picture material.'' Ok...that makes no sense. The best reviewed and the truly best movie of the year should get the award. It shouldn't matter what kind of movie it is. Some say, "Well, it's a superhero movie." Why does that make it exempt from a nomination? If it's the best movie of the year, then it deserves a nomination. And truth be told, it wasn't really a superhero film; it was a dark, brooding crime film/social study.

Let's look at the critical averages for the nominees, shall we? (Golden Globes) (All info from Rotten Tomatoes-Out of 100 percent)

    Slumdog Millionare-94 percent

    Frost/Nixon-90 percent

    The Reader-60 percent

    Revolutionary Road-66 percent

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button-73 percent

And "The Dark Knight" rings in at 94 percent...tied for the highest reviewed film on the list, beating out most of the others. ("The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke actually has a higher percentage than them all...98 percent)

Why is an amazing movie like this getting deprived of nominations?

  • My computer has a problem recognizing a CD?

I recently purchased a CD ("Zappa Plays Zappa," if it at all matters), and for some reason neither iTunes or Windows Media will recognize it. I went to "My Computer" and checked the CD drive and it said there was nothing there. The CD works; I've listened to it more than once, but my PC won't recognize it. Any help/ideas?

  • Why do you you think Katatonia's album "The Great Cold Distance" has a Parental Advisory label?

I recently downloaded the excellent album "The Great Cold Distance" by doom/goth metal band Katatonia. I always check to make sure that any lyrics I download aren't filthy, and I happened to look over the lyrics to this album before I found it had a PA sticker. The lyrics aren't bad; they're very dark and melancholy but there's nothing extremely inappropriate or explict about them at all. While previous Katatonia albums had profanity, this albums doesn't have a single profane word. Why do you think this album has a Parental Advisory sticker?

For those not familiar with the band or those who have not heard of this album, here's a link:

  • Books on hate crime/hate crime enhancement?

The new LD resolution (debate) regards the justness of hate crime enhancement. I am looking for some books on the topic for my study.

So far I've found "Hate Crimes Revisited" by Jack Levin and Jack McDevitt. I want books, not college/high school textbooks. I'm not willing to spend the money to buy them or take all the time to read them.

    Any help?

  • Where can I download "Hatesong" by Porcupine Tree on the internet?

I want the song "Hatesong" by Porcupine Tree, but I can't find it anywhere. I can't get my hands on a copy of Lightbulb Sun, and Esnips won't let me download the track for some reason.

I've Googled it, and all of the sites (Most of them read www.mp3world or some other variety of mp3......) and they are all basically the same site with a different name. They all lead to a site called MP3 Fiesta, which won't work on my computer for some reason.

    Any helps?
