Do you fear the future?
Many people worry about what the future holds, the World Future Society tries to predict trends and patterns in human actions and behavior to negate this. I am just curious really, if you do fear the future or face it with trepidation please tell me!
7 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoAccuracy of carbon dating?
I've been doing a some research on archaeology and some recent digs. Then I came across an article which stated in part:
The unreliability of carbon 14 date testing is a great concern to honest archaeologists. They get very concerned when C14 testing shows obviously inaccurate results & they are left in uncertainty about the reliability of the dates that they have previously never questioned.
Examples of abnormal C14 results include testing of recently harvested, live mollusc shells from the Hawaiian coast that showed that they had died 2000 years ago and snail shells just killed in Nevada, USA, dated in at 27,000 years old. A freshly killed seal at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, yielded a death age of 1300 years ago.
A petrified miner’s hat & wooden fence posts were unearthed from an abandoned 19th century gold hunter’s town in Australia's outback. Results from radiocarbon dating said that they were 6000 years old.
Should carbon dating be trusted? Is there something better?

I've been asked to provide music for an elderly friend who is tying the knot in a few months time. I have plenty of music all stored and sorted on my laptop but I need probably a powered mixer and speaker set. I don't even know where to begin - suggestions please!
1 AnswerOther - Electronics1 decade agoHow can I associate a file with a keystroke?
I want to assign a key command to play certain music files, or indeed, open a certain file. Such as 'CTRL+F' to play a piece of music. I run Vista Home Premium and the Task Scheduler doesn't have the facility to associate a 'file open' with a keystroke. Thanks for looking!
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoWhat to give my wife for our sixth anniversary?
In the past I've chosen either very practical or very romantic gifts - from a digital camera (how boring but she loved it) to naming a star (lovely gift she still talks about) and I'm racking my brains for what to do next. Our anniversary isn't until next April btw! I've tried to put out feelers but all I know is that she doesn't want a weekend away or one of these pamper packages. Help!
9 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoWhen you consider the future, are you hopeful or doubtful?
I have a presentation on the subject above and wanted to include some topical comments from people. This seemed like a good way to do it! I'm not after a bias either way, just a brief honest answer would do perfectly. Thanks!
10 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoHow can I stop thunderbugs invading my flat panel monitor?
I have those tiny flat little insects getting on the INSIDE surface of my screen! After a day or so they die! The count is now at 5. It's not a problem if I'm playing a game or watching a film but surfing shows them up easily.
Aaarrgh, I can't think of anything to help, any ideas?
6 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoHow long should I keep this white wine before drinking?
My brother bought my wife and I a nice white wine for our 5th anniversary. I don't know how long it should be kept before we should drink it... I was wondering if we could hold onto it until our 10th?
24 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoHow can I burn a crossfaded cd?
I've just made two albums, Elated and Nitrogen Trance. They stand up well on their own, but I'd love to burn them crossfaded. I can do this manually but it's a lot of work I'd like to avoid if I can. Any free utilities that will do the job? Cheers!

6 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoConvert DVD to AVI for video editing, what software?
I have a presentation to give, and some questions to be taken from the audience regarding a DVD film. I'd like to capture sections of video for playback via a digital projector and laptop and compile a Powerpoint presentation - to highlight some of the scenes in the film. I've tried all sorts of freebie converters, any ideas? The less they cost the better...!
6 AnswersSoftware1 decade ago10 - 50yrs old, decent music for a large gathering - your choices?
Myself and a friend have been asked to provide music for an evening do on Saturday. Now, my music background, house, trance, dance, synth, hip hop, garage. My mate, rock, rock, glam rock and more rock. I have an eclectic collection already, and would like some suggestions as to what to play? It's a broad audience so I don't expect to please everyone at once, but a majority would be good!
9 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoRomantic present for 5th Anniversary - ideas please?
Each year since we got married I've alternated between a romantic present one year and a practical one the next.
For instance, this year was a new digital camera, last year was a gift package where I named a star after my beloved. My anniversary isn't until April 07 but I need some 'romantic' gift ideas... Planning ahead as I'm pretty useless!
Doesn't have to be useful, just something to show I care, could be small or large but needs to be special.
